1. Nice...not a Fender man myself but if I was going to have a Jazz, I'd want it to look like that!
2. I use those Boston ones and they're great. You have to tighten them up every once in a while but otherwise, all good!
3. Must be economics. At the moment, they're limited to more top end stuff, but will surely come down in price. It's a bit like air con and leccy windows in cars - they used to be found on top of the range stuff - now they pretty much come as standard across the board in new motors.
4.
How are you finding the neck then? I adore the neck on my ray, I havent played a nicer neck, BUT, I just went carbon fibre too with a flea bass. cant firgure out if I like it or LOVE it. its got the same spacing as the status if im not mistaken, 17mm?
It feels smaller to me - it's definitely less chunky nearer the nut, which I like. I chose to have it fitted for the feel of graphite more than the sound. I love the smoothness of it. Found my old SR neck a bit too chunky and coarse. This allows you to play really fast. Just plugged it in through my Trace Elliot combo and it sounds like a SR on steroids now. Will have to gig it to get a proper feel for what its like loud but it's might be a wild beast to tame!
5.
I blame most of the current bands, looks like they are all playing P basses at the mo, and there is a massive want/need for them.
+1. I think fashion plays a large part. They're currently out of fashion - it's a good time to buy. Anyone got a 30th anniversary they want to sell to me for £488? ;-)
6. The Bb's right. +1 on checking the guitarist is playing the right thing. It's a very specific sounding chord. I also used to find starting in the high E cut through better at gigs (ie, D string, 2nd fret).
7. Great basses to play - sadly awful looks. If they could get the feel and sound into a more traditional shape, it would be a winner.
8. Don't know what it would sound like but it would be cool to have a bass made from the tree you helped fell.
9.
got any sound clips?
Fraid not - but it's pretty versatile.
10. Now just £200 inc free delivery.
11. Think they're Warwicks - red label maybe.
12.
Outstanding! That's exactly what I needed - a bucket of cold water in the face. GAS temporarily quenched. Ta very muchly.
Haha...didn't mean it like that...but if it's done the trick, then all good!
13. A Korean bass with a BIN of £500 in the current climate, I'm not surprised!
14.
Extra points for referring to one's "massive maple corpus".
Damn...you beat me to it!
15. 40th birthday party in a back garden in Dorking. Good laugh. Theme was: "wear a wig". I was in a mullet. Played in a small gazebo in the back garden which must have really wound up the neighbours but they had a really good turn out, so most of them must have been there. Lucky with the weather, it was the sunniest day for ages. Got fed a hog roast too, so all good.
16. Welcome to the site Mike. Always nice to have a new player... Have you thought about getting a Marcus Miller Jazz, Lakland DJ4, Bongo or maybe a Scheter Model T? You could probably pick one up cheap around here. Forget bow and arrows, get back on the bass!
17.
an hour later while we're in the middle of David Watts, the door opens and there they are watching us. I nearly died.
Haha...did the fingers turn to jelly? Did he offer any tips? They sound like really nice guys. Bet he wasn't using that Peavey-asuarus stack there though - it's terrible! I like WaterRat, it's a bit grubby but Jayne who runs it is really friendly. We use Silent Hill in Guildford a lot because it's a better location for us. Jules who runs that is a really nice guy too and it's a bit newer.
18. Thanks Lee. Waiting to get this to a gig - but they're all outdoors on in the middle of fields at the moment - so I daren't take it out.
19. I think this looks a bit fishy too. Why would Fender install a rival company's trademark pickup? Doesn't make sense. Smacks of an aftermarket fiddle - like putting side skirts on a Citroen Saxo.
20. On the subject of selling, if my Warwick Profet head hasn't sold by the time of the bash, I'll bring it along and do a special on-the-day deal.
21. Good buy there Sir!
22. The dust caps are the same on the old models as on the new ones, so EMS should be able to source.
23.
SRF did you have the neck fitted by Status?
Yes, I don't trust myself with a drill.
How's the Nordy p'up sounding, Does it do what you expected?
I tried it as an experiment and it sounds hotter than the original (always felt my Ray was bit underpowered) and it a bit more mellow, with less "clack" if you know what I mean. Still has the sound though. It might be at the bash. Depends if there's any room with all those boutique rigs that are coming.
24. "Can I build a better and cheaper cab than the mass manufacturers offer?" "What's the best combo of driver sizes?" "How do I get to hear what the audiences hears when I'm on stage?" (talking about playing through backline here rather than the PA)
