1. After reading claims that these are D'Addario seconds/Ernie Balls/made from candy floss I phoned Larry Hartke up and asked him who makes them - he says it's not a famous brand but a small company that they use. He does answer the phone as advertised. Seems like a nice guy. Edit: looked at the packs and they say "Made In China" on them. Which maybe explains why they're so cheap. But they're still good.
2.
Despite replying in the affirmative I seem to have dropped off the list. Still bringing GW #23, Carvin XB 75, Asbory & Wish.
You have to add yourself to the list. The Basschat secretary left in a huff many years ago.
3. I've had both and couldn't see any noticeable difference in quality. I've got an Indonesian one that I've had since new (a bass, not an internet bride ) and the build quality's top notch.
4.
Im thinking of having binding, prob not matching headstock, and normal Pickups for that full sound.
Is buying direct from the factory going to cost lost of ££s? They're almost custom basses, aren't they.
5. Nice to see the low end sensibly discussed in the mainstream press. Makes a change.
6. How about a bit of blueburst action?
7.
And, finally, ladies and gents, some Retroactive porn for your eyes:
Tasty. Very tasty.
8. That's ^^ like a monster robot! Waynepunk - like your rack light coming from the tuner. Damn - I want one!
9. It's a weird one - you don't get the pleasure of playing against the drummer when you go "unplugged" but it does make the gig more relaxed. You feel like you can relax and have a laugh with it a bit more.
10.
Anyone else out there play U.S. Masters? There's not a lot about over here, it seems.
I thought for a minute there, you'd confused us with "GolfChat". Actually, that's a scary thought. A forum where people talk about golf and golf alone. Welcome along!
11.
One of the coolest venues in the NW, and located in the middle of a roundabout!
I thought it was on a dark, desert highway... /gets coat and checks out
12. It'll work - just get the guitarists to play electro-acoustic (or with smaller amps) and sit down while you gig so it looks a bit different and "acoustic". We've done it a couple of times and had a good laugh with it. You can prob do most of the stuff on your set - let the guitarist and singer take the lead. A quick run through beforehand will help too but it should be ok. Don't try and do it fast paced like you would if you had the full band there - make it look more relaxed and have fun with it and the punters will get the idea. Tell them you're unplugged for the night because the drummer's got an ASBO curfew.
13. Bump. This amp is in top condition. Get it cheap before it heads for Ebay.
14. I've had a go on a couple and was a bit underwhelmed. The neck and headstock put me off the most - they look very cheap. Be interested to see the final result if you transplant the innards out to a normal bass though.
15.
As you may have gathered from the useless replies you have received so far - its up to you to decide when to change them.
Thank you Simon Cowell.
16. If someone wants to pair this up with my Profet 5.1 head, you'll have a readymade Warwick rig. Plus, I'm only a few miles from Farnham, so if you're picking up the cab, you can come and grab the head on the same journey.
17. The full SP on Tributes is on the G&L website. Basically they're like Lakland Skylines - built in Far East using American pickups and hardware. The full G&L story is also on Wikipedia. Edit: I should have my Tribute L2000 at the Bash. £1 a go.
18. Got a triple-pack of these and they're very good. I'm no string expert though. Defo worth experimenting if you get them at a good price. Edit: phone Larry Hartke up and ask him who makes them.
19. Bring your bass and the head to the Guildford bass bash and we'll work out how to do it. I can bring my compressor pedal so you can try it out.
20. Nice stash - it looks like a guitar shop! Can't get on with Ricks myself but I'm loving that green backline.
21. I can't tell whether you're being sarcastic or not. I adjust that and usually find it does the trick. I've got the same amp as you - but 50w lighter. See if you can borrow a pedal compressor to try out. I'd lend you mine - but I've got a few gigs in a row coming up.
22. Maybe. It won't be a magic wand but it'll prob make you sound a bit more punchy and even the sound out so the high notes have attack too. Tried EQ'ing with the rotary control rather than the graphic?
23.
I still haven't worked out my sound on my Trace GP7. I want an attacky sound with a bit of bottom end keeping the clarity of the notes. Anyone know any good settings?
Got the pre-shape switched in or out? Using any compression? I'd suggest pre-shape on, compression (don't think your GP7 has got compressor, so maybe something like the Aphex Punch factory) and some top end added with the EQ sliders or the EQ control.
