1. That's the most beautiful ironing board that I've ever seen.

    gig contract?

You won't be asked to sign a contract to play but in managed/chain pubs, you might find yourself being asked to sign for the money.
  3.
Peter Jones did say on the show 'I know people at Sony, I'm not saying that's where I'll take you...' Hamfatter. I've heard the name before, were they one of the bands that didn't get very far on that Battle of the Bands show Jo Wiley, and the bassist from Blur did?
Wonder what bass/rig he'll buy with the advance. <phone rings> "I'm calling from Ashdown...would you like a free one?"
  4.
There ya go PED!
Lovely sound on that first one. Very Status-like. Has it got a graphite neck?
  5.

Don't turn around...but I think someone's papped you already.
  6. It's a set up thing. Low action's no good if you're an energetic player though - you'll just get mush and buzz. My gig basses are set up higher than the ones I play at home.
Trace Elliot AH500-7 -I played this for about 10 mins in a guitar centre while on holidays in San Francisco and i loved it!. It sounded beautiful. It looked amazing. But the equalizer heads looks kinda fragile....
It's the sound you'll be left with when you've forgotten the price. And if you like the way it sounded - go for it. I'd be tempted to take it out of its sleeve and put it in a rack anyway.
  8.
"Did we really need 2 hours? Could we play CD's through the PA whilst we setup and sound check? Could we come in before the reception to setup up and then hang around for 5 hours before playing..."
Haha..that's so true. Nice to know everybody has to put up with the same nonsense. I had to skip my gig this week as I'm still hobbling around after doing my knee in. A dep got £100 instead of me. Need to get fighting fit again as I could do with topping up my GAS fund.
  9. Buy a cheap Fender copy from Ebay - if it's under £50 you'll probably be able to sell it on for the same money.
  10.
I got one free recently from someone who upgraded, but it's too heavy for me to lift into the car unaided!
Welcome to the world of bass amps - although if you've got deep pockets, there is some new kit that's pretty light. Nice intro by the way, and nice to have someone along from the dark side.
  11. If it's a combo, won't it be wired up as 4 ohms? Most are, aren't they?
  12. Jesus - you had to ask, didn't you?
  13.
Just got home from my hols last night and was catching up when I noticed there's a lot of new members and it's great stuff We'll have to resurrect the "Show your faces" thread. Bit depressing to see a lot of gear not moving though, a sign of the times I supppose - anyway, good to be back on the board.
If there's a man to get some movement going in the 'For Sale' section, t'is you Alan. Agree with you on the site - people seem to have got their sense of humour back.
  14. I don't know if he's making that money on it. I looked at an identical one in the Guitar Center in Orlando last month. It was marked up as $1800 but the absolute lowest he'd go was $1300 + tax (£700ish). Lovely bass. I loved the stained neck and headstock. Couldn't justify the cash at the time though.
  15.
Odd that someone has used the Veblen goods comparison with Warwick... I'd have thought that by now someone might have expanded the debate out from Squire v Fender to Squire type basses (i.e. cheap BO Fender style basses) to Sadowsky and Lakland!
We start out buying cheap Fender copies, save up for a Fender, then pine for expensive Fender copies!
  16. I had a non-export one for a while. Great sound with a pick but found it a bit muddy otherwise (but I do like a SR modern sound) and I play fingerstyle 90% of the time. Nice looking bass (binding on body and finish were great) but it felt very old fashioned to play with a fair bit of neck dive. Horses for courses though - if we all liked the same thing etc etc... Glad you like yours!
  17. It looks like it's been microwaved.
  18.
I couldn't hear myself over the drummer, and he was trying to play softly.
That's drummers for you. Hate to say it - but the Rumble would have prob done the job. Mine used to.
  19.
I couldn't belive this bloke was giving me advice about getting the right tone. He's never done a gig outside his bedroom but is an expert on the subject apparently
Point him in the direction of the Ernie Ball forum - he'll fit right in!
  20. It's your choice fella! Try a load and decide what sound you like. Always thought piezos were a bit pointless though. You won't get the extra cash back on resale I don't think.
  21. Any Basschatter near Aberdeen who could lend ou7shined a head for the weekend maybe? Gives him a bit more time to decide what to do.
