1.
I'd never heard of that term before, thank you. Perfectly describes the Warwick marketting strategy Also works for Apple and the IPod and Macs (there being better and cheaper products out there, but people still insist on paying more for Apple stuff).
Not sure I agree with that. Just bought an iMac after usings PCs for 15 years and the iMac is better built, faster, quieter and the software is in a different league to anything I've ever used on a PC. Yes, I could have bought a top notch PC for half the price with Vista, but sometimes you do get what you pay for.
2. kennyrodg - I've got a Laney R2 120w combo like this one which I'm not using, if you're interested. £75 and it's yours. It's got a 12" and is a wedge style kickback design. Bought it a couple of years ago when I needed an amp for rehearsals but no longer need it. Just had it serviced to remove some crackles from the pots, so it now works a treat. PM me if you're interested.
3.
Hey little sister who is it you're with? Hey little sister what's your vice and wish? Hey little sister shot gun (oh yeah) Hey little sister who's your superman? Hey little sister shot gun! Never struck me as a terribly good lyric for a wedding, but I gather it's quite popular.
White Wedding? People love it despite the lyrics!
4.
Went to see a local band last night , very good apart from the bass player kept playing slap riffs and then back to fingerstyle in EVERYTHING from "i shot the sheriff" to "you need a friend " !
5. I used to have a nice walnut matt finish Squier Jazz. Wish I still had it...
6. Would the replacement be required to rock all over the world - or just the southern counties?
7. It does make you wonder doesn't it... I pointed out in anoher thread that although I own two US guitars, I currently gig two Far Eastern ones because they're more fun to play.
8. Nice $$...
any one know any good (cheap) amps to go with it? ? ?
Martthebass is selling a Trace combo for £150 in the for sale section. This would sound sweet through that.
9. Great neck on that - like tapioca pudding! Nearly pulled the trigger once on a Tribute version of this....
10.
thanks but no thanks no sensible answers no point
Oooooh.....
11. In that case, it prob boils down to gigging. Do you mind not gigging/being in a position to gig for a while? If the answer's no, then buy the bass. But say you ditch the amp and a great offer of a band comes along, you'll be a bit stuck!
12. Agree there no need to spend over £5/600 on a bass if you want to gig. My current gig basses cost £350 and £280 and they sound and play great. You can spend £2k on a custom bass, but it doesn't make you play any better. Sadly...
13. Be interested to hear reaction on the new Little Giant heads. Always thought the Superfly was a great idea but was put off by tales of poor reliability.
14. You'll find a lot of us "old new starters" here. Getting back gigging is the best cure. Basses and backline are plentiful and relatively cheap since you last gigged too. The secondhand market's very good value at the moment - shop here for great deals!
15. We tend to shelve. Specials - Much Too Young ("...you've done too much, much too young. Married with a kid when you should be having fun with me...")
16. ^^ scary insight into the world of functions Kiwi. My gig last night didn't happen - playing on a float in the local town carnival to promote a local pub's band nights, followed by a gig at said pub. Been planning it for 6 months... ...then I dislocated my knee last week and I'm hobbling around on crutches.
17. I voted amp. Anything you plug into a good amp sounds good. But we're talking live here. Don't get hung up on buying top of the range. Loads of people here (me included) gig with very mid-range stuff. Sometimes price is not the only factor. My two most expensive basses don't get gigged at the moment because the cheaper ones I own are lighter and more fun to play. My amp is now a secondhand Trace unit that I got for £150 from here.
18. There's a very good covers band near me whose drummer uses a drum trigger pad to trigger the click that he plays along with. Presumably it's a L/R split as described above. Works very well.
19. Good luck in the green channel...
20.
If you want to earn money from playing don't play pubs or clubs. Stick to functions, do a brilliant show every time and you too can join us well paid function players. Simple really.
+1. Most landlords and bar managers want stuff on the cheap.
21.
Stuart is one of the humblest guys out there - Jay Kay was the knob!
Not in his MySpace blog, he's not! Haha...
22. Thought the interview was fine. He's famous for being ex-Jamiroquai, so the interview's bound to focus on that rather than blather on about his new album. He should have been on the cover though.
23.
I've never heard of any of the charities. The auctions haven't exactly been high-profile either - it might be that most visitors haven't even seen them.
+1 Could I also play Devil's Advocate and say that charity starts at home? Maybe profits could go to running this site that provides counselling and support to a lot of sad bass players like me.
24.
....the film shifts into a spiritual realm where Jaco is presented to himself in a mirror to see why he has existed and why he died, it looks at what he has done, what he has become in the future and what he would do to change it....
Zzzzzzzzzzzzz.....
25. There's a guy called 'dazbootman' on US Ebay who'll make them bespoke for you. You normally send him a pencil outline of your current one, but in your case, I'm sure you could work out a plan.
