1. I briefly owned a G&L L2500 which had toured the world with Craig David. Not sure if that added value or devalued it though.
2. Always more impressed with his fingerstyle than the machine-gun slapping. He's got a great feel - which I guess comes from being a drummer.
3. Whatever you do, recommend getting hold of a Rode NT1A condenser mic for vocals. They're ace.
4. Concentrate on the bassline then busk the backing vox at rehearsals. As suggested, start with songs that have easy basslines.
5. Mine was ok and fun to play but they do feel cheap. Save for a Sub.
6. I sound like a real n-e-r-d for knowing that. It's only because they kindly sent one for my old combo...
7.
I also think its pretty cool getting your set-up and sound and just sticking to it.
Nah - boring! Where's that link to the "stuff for sale" section gone....
8. Give them a call or write them a nice letter - they still use the same ones on the new models.
9. Behringer bass stuff does look great for the price - but there's a saying - you remember the quality but forget the price. As soon as you buy that cab, it'll drop in value by at least half, if not more. You'll then be left with the cab. You may love it, chances are you'll feel you could have done better. By all accounts they're heavy and made on a tight budget. You'd be better off buying secondhand I think - something better quality. Spend £100 on an Ashdown, Warwick, Hartke or similar cab and you be happier in the long run, I reckon.
10.
That would be great but I think i might get the SR anyway
Now's the time then. They're going cheaper than the cost of the parts.
11. It's a good point. Boutique stuff is there for people with deep pockets. Not for me, but I can see the appeal.
12.
Four stages of learning: - Unconscious incompetence - Conscious incompetence
Sounds like me over the course of a gig. Re: OP. My teacher gave me a couple of MP3 tracks to take home that we'd played along to in lesson. Very useful for practice afterwards. Otherwise, don't rush through stuff and don't waste time on small talk or telling anecdotes. I find that really annoying when you're paying for someones time and they're wittering on about how they "used to have a Jazz bass but then sold it for blah blah...hold on, I've got a magazine here somewhere with a nice picture of a Jazz....blah blah....fancy a cup of tea....oh we're out of time."
13.
A bit rich calling themselves 'bassguitarpartsdirect'... they have nothing that fits a Warwick. 'fendertypethingsareus' more like
It's for all the Fender owners whose basses ship with inferior hardware. Relax and rub in some more wax.
14. I used to recommend coverovercovers.co.uk but they've become a bit hopeless of late. These ^^ suggestions seem much better.
15. Keep finding myself looking at the Rondo website... Only a few clicks and the postman could bring me something I don't need, but quite like the look of! You coming to SE Bash with any of your SXs? Wouldn't mind a blast on one...
16. Did the two basses on the left and right mate and produce the one in the middle?
17. Nice... You got some sort of light coming out of the underneath of your tuner?
18.
I don't know if I'm there yet but I have sure moved on from my Encore bass and Badger amp. I like a to play deep but with attack I prefer a P-Bass tone but my Jazz with it's SD Quarter Pounders sounds awesome. Next year I'm going to buy a Stingray and see if I can find the holy grail.
Wait till you get that Trace head going... Select "pre-shape" and you might not need the SR.
19.
A new neck (maple with blocks) and a Badass2............
Sweet. Do they still do that blue quilt finish - can't see it on the website...
20. Show us a picture! I'm McLovin my new GP7.
21.
I recall you saying you were still looking? What do you seek?
I think I'm pretty much there. I like "modern hi-fi scooped" - and with the 2nd hand Trace Elliot head, I've just got, I'm pretty close I think.
22.
What kind of portable power solutions are there to allow me to use my amp on-the-go?
You could hook it up to the nearest street-light like Ray-Von did in Phoenix Nights. Shabba!
23. This is turning into painted headstock porn - I like it. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that but to me, this is tasty: This, less so:
