1.
I bet they are old people. It's always old people. Not that I have got anything against old people. I just find it strange that when it comes to conversation, they are as deaf as a post, yet when it comes to music, everything seems clear as a whistle...
2.
Weighs about 20 Kgs - heavier than I was expecting. Definitely a 2-handed lug up the stairs. Not as portable as I thought. Probably me being naive/inexperienced with my expectations here.
Sadly all amps and cabs look light on the computer screen. Then when they arrive, they become ugly things that you trip over in the hallway! Fit wheels if it's not got any, makes life slightly easier.
 3. Was very impressed with some Villex ones that I saw/heard at a bass bash.
 4. Used Cubase for a while but having much more fun using GarageBand at the mo... It's easier to get stuff recorded and mess around with it.
 5.
me to,
And, me... There are a lot of us about.
 6. If hadn't just got the GP7SM, I'd be in the market for this. Have a bump anyway...
 7. Yet to find my perfect bass. I think it would have a graphite neck though. Played OBBM's SR with a Status neck and it was sublime. Maybe I should send my Ray to Status for the same.
 8. Hoping to come. Supposed to away though. Leave it with me...
 9. A great one. A summer party at a friend of the drummer, who lives in a house that overlooks miles and miles of fields. My band and another came together and played all our songs and more in the open air. Sunny all day and we played on into the night. Had to think on my feet, learning tunes on the hoof but it was a real blast. It went so well, it's already in the diary for next year, apparently. So much fun playing in the open air. Edit: I seem to be pulling a 'bass face'
 10.
Although I have a huge appreciation for Rics and find them very asthetic on the eye, they are uncomfortable for me to play after the contoured shape of the Stingray.
Don't do it, you'll never use it!
 11. If no biters - suggest putting it on Ebay. You'll sell it fairly easily there I reckon.
 12.
Just send a picture of the hat?
Joking aside - a well produced demo CD, biog and pic of the band should do the trick. Call and speak to the person that books the bands then put it all in an envelope to them. Drop it off in person if you can.
 13. Bump for a tasty bass that gives you a lot of bang for your $. Mine records really well and sounds great through my Trace Elliot combo.
 14. Don't think anyone's mentioned 'Gangsters' by the Specials which is a great bassline to play. Ditto 'Too Much Too Young'. We gig both and people love them. Didn't play any ska until got into my present band - now I love playing it. It always gets blokes dancing.
 15.
Basically, I'm going away for six weeks, and spending most of my time on boats, but I'll have many hours of time with little to do. I'll have my laptop with me... ...anything else you can think of to do?
I know of some exercises you can do with free hands and a laptop but it'll only build up strength in one arm... Edit: joking apart - can't you just buy a cheap bass and take it onboard with you?
 16.
When were you 'ready' to gig... or did you just dive in head first?
You need 25 songs (for 2 x 45 min sets) and a good quality 3-track demo CD. Then you're good to go. Or befriend a friendly pub landlord and get them to take you on half price for the first gig.
 17. I prefer the control of fingerstyle as you can damp with your right hand but I sometimes use a pick to get a grittier sound. Stick with what you feel comfortable with. FWIW - pick cuts through better live I think.
 18. It sounds like he plays hard.
 19.
Played some of his luvverly basses - highlights for me were the Modulus Flea (a life changing experience)
Uh oh...
 20. Nik - thought about doing it in a social/working mans club? Somewhere with a bar might make it more social than a rehearsal room. I know one here in Fleet in Hants but I'm sure there's prob one in Guildford somewhere. Just a thought...
 21.
Terrible gig on Sat Playing a Holiday camp.
Sounds like you had a nightmare!
Got pissed and left the gear - got to bed about 5am.
I like gigs like those. It's great to jettison the gear and head for the beer!
 22. Probably just playing your P bass nearer the bridge will give you the sound. What you're hearing on the record is prob a mix of DI and effects anyway, so don't get too hung up on trying to nail it. That said, you might want to try using a Aphex Xciter or SansAmp to get a more scooped sound. Agree that he's a great player though.
 23. Both are very good basses but only really you can decide which you'd be happy to keep. Only thing I'd say is the Warwick might hold its value better and be more desirable if you ever needed to sell it. Let us know which one you choose.
 24.
Yes, 100%. My 2 are gigged regularly and are a dream to play. Paul......Wizards are great. But the stock PUPS were/are OK, bit too strong for my liking. SX rules!!!!
Would a J-retro or similar pre-amp fit into the Jazz d'you reckon? Might be a fun to hot-rod one....
