1. This is "American Boy" we're talking about, yes? I saw the guy play it on the Friday Night Project and I had to rewind Sky+ after hearing a run that sounded like he had fifteen fingers!
2. Tricky one. FCN is your best best but supply is limited, so there's not much discount around. You're better off buying 2nd hand or sourcing a new one out of the States where coverage is a lot better.
3. Relax but don't relax so much that you end up having a chat every five minutes about everything. Keep an eye on the time and keep a momentum about the session so you're aware of what you've still got to do. Allow *loads* of time to do the vocal track. It's the single most important bit you'll do but can be the rushed thing at the end.
4. Tempted. Don't spose you ever bought a black pickguard for it, did you?
5. Wedding in Maidstone. Didn't know what to expect as we play punky covers but the bride and groom led the charge and the dancefloor was full all night. All ages dancing to everything from The Clash to The Fratellis. Top party and spurred us on to play brilliantly. The only time the dancefloor emptied was when the DJ came on in the break.
6. I really fancy one of these but £5/600's a lot for a MIM bass. I think they've missed a trick with this model. If they'd have made it as a premium American (or even CIJ) bass, and got some decent artist endorsement behind it, I think it would have been a good seller.
7. Had good experiences with both imuso.co.uk and absolutemusic.co.uk (they seem to be very competitive at the moment).
8.
mmm, which is series actually, middle switch towards bride or neck. I did mine with the switch towards the neck - the lounder setting, always thought this is series, I may in fact be wriong. Anyone?
I don't know tbh! I mean towards floor/bridge (quieter setting).
9. Pickups in middle, series (I think, middle switch in down position) and active switch in the middle. Edit: oh and bass/tone pots wide open.
10. Hmm. Turns out they are MIM and the review on Harmony Central doesn't bode well... "...in active mode, the bass sounds cold and modern, regardless what you dial in. In passive mode the bass sounds woodier and warmer, but still too flat and boring. This is no match at all for a regular precision or jazzbass." Sounds like the pickup could be the dealbreaker. Shame - block inlays, painted headstocks and no pickguard are all GAS triggers for me!
11.
Ruby is a great tune to play - like alot of really good pop songs it is very well crafted and put together, with lots of subtle changes and different bits to it. We like playing it.
Does it get a good reaction? We were thinking of adding it to our list but weren't sure if it would keep people up dancing? Edit: here's what my L2000 Trib sounds like.
12. Nice - you're building up quite a collection there. You'll be able to open a shop soon!
13. Anyone tried/used/owned one of Fender's 'Big Block' Precisions? How do they sound and feel? Really different to a Precision. Like a lot of people here, I'm thinking dirty thoughts about getting a P bass and this caught my eye.
14. Cheers for posting these up. Really nice playing on Ruby - that Simon Rix from the Kaisers writes some nice bass lines, doesn't he? Interesting that you use the G&L on passive, I think the active elecs are what make the G&L sound for me. Gives it that "hi-fi" sound. Perhaps I'm just so used to hearing that kind of sound that everything sounds a bit muffled otherwise - 'active bass tinitus' if you like!
15. Maybe do it as a buy it now?
16. Nice bass - I've got exactly the same. This site's been awash with Stingrays recently though and everyone round here is gassing for a Precision at the moment. You'd prob be best sticking it on Ebay, where you'd prob get your £750. Good luck.
17. Nice kit. Band sounds good too.
18.
That string cleaner stuff (Fast Fret is it?) - it just makes the strings feel really greasy to me. I prefer a rougher string for grip purposes personally!
String Wipes in a sachet like the freshen-up wipe you get in KFC. They've sat in my case unopened for years.
19.
There was a discussion of this including the plastic cable tidies and the correct way to wind a cable (with video) on another thread.
Shame I missed that one.
20. I'm still using my Indonesian made G&L as my main gigging bass. Stingray's not been out of the house for almost a year.
21.
I always do it, after learning the embarassing way, I also take the other end of the lead around/through the side handle on my combo.
Me too.
22. I was in two cover bands once and got confused. So now it's just the one.
23. Welcome Bren. And seeing as you're getting them in, mine's a Guinness too!
