1. Haha...dare you to play it in public. And we want photographic proof!
2. I might take the 2x10 off your hands if you do want to sell it. Saying that, could I hook it up with my 4-ohm 4x10 and run it from my Profet head? I guess it would make the cabs 6 ohms...I think....
3. Mark King - for making bass attention grabbing (think his fingerstyle lines are better than the chugga chugga though) +1 Nick Beggs Paul Denman from Sade - nice souful lines played on a Stingray. See HERE Nick Thorp from Curiosity Killed The Cat - great basslines on a Status. Cheesy clip alert Good bass players, awful decade for music!
4.
This is the kind of thing I have in mind...
That looks cool. I wish I could do practical stuff like that - I'm hopeless!
5.
It should be possible to design & build a simple ply or mdf case to fit them in that breaks into two halfs and acts as stands for ease of setup.
If you do - could you build me one please? Haha. The spread of light's pretty good - esp in dark pubs. Easy and relatively cheap solution, me thinks. Like the idea of mounting them on the speaker stands - might have to give that a go. Just bought a fog machine from Maplins too - they're on special for 30 quid.
6.
I\'ve been looking into just such a set-up for our band - what size par\'s did you go for (56 or 64?), and how are they performing? I\'ve been a bit wary of LED\'s as I guess they\'re not as bright as standard halogen cans? Your advice would be appreciated
Hey Barney, we recently got a pair of these from Thomann which are great. Bought some floor stands and put one either side of the stage on auto. They go through a cycle of about 6 colours and look great - better than traffic lights. And as people have mentioned they don\'t get hot. Good old Thomann... Edit: adding picture
7. I've got a GOTOH like this one on my BB614 and it was a cinch to fit. Took old one off and put new one in its place - holes all lined up. Recommended. I think with the BadAss you have to file the string slots too which is more hassle.
8.
It does change your sound slightly but then so does playing on a wooden stage, new strings etc. It boots the highs a bit but nothing a bit of Eq cant mask unless your a purist.
..and also, which thing will punters remember more - the bass player with a slightly better sound or the one who leapt onto the bar during the encore? I've got one of these in a box in garage - it's reminded me to get it out again for the next gig!
9. Free bump. I tried one of these in a guitar shop recently and was pleasantly surprised how good they played and sounded.
10. We've got the normal Maplin traffic lights but they flash like mad and there's no switch or control to stop them. Anyone know how to set them to be constantly on please?
11. JTS929 is great for £20. You'll find them on Ebay.
12.
I put castors on my Peavey 1x15 to save my back.It has'nt improved or degraded my sound at all.
+1. I've had castors on my last couple of 4x10s and it's not changed the sound I don't think. But boy does it make loading in and out much easier.
13. I originally thought so, but isn't the "link" a feed for an unpowered slave speaker? Doesn't that mean it's a hotter signal coming out of there than a line feed? :Help...Confused: We've got two Carlsbro actives and a Laney active one. All have a "link" socket I think. Cheers.
14. Behringer mixers are great - I've got two. Wouldn't buy their other stuff. Bought a pair of M-Audio BX5a active monitors recently for £130 and very pleased with them. Good flat sound and separation.
15. Apologies...this post isn't as interesting at the title suggests but you're all a brainy lot and I need your help please. I need to run three active wedge monitors from the one outlet from our little PA mixer. Any ideas how I can cheaply split three feeds off the one? All plugs & sockets are jacks. I'm looking for something small and easy - rather than a 19" rack mounted spitting box. Any ideas please?
16.
Compression...
Spot on. All radio stations use them - usually Optimods. The commercial FM music stations like to drive them hard so they sound louder on the dial. Radio 1 and 2 have just copied that idea. It's why the song always sounds punchier on the radio. Audio purists and hi-fi nerds hate it but it's a sound that I quite like. Radio 3 and 4 don't really bother much with compression, which is why they sound so quiet!
17. Not sure you should condemn a whole shop on the basis of one unhelpful bloke and a badly set-up guitar.
18. I used to have a blue non-export. Beautiful looking and sounded great with a pick but otherwise not for me. I seem to remember it had more neck dive than a wannabe WAG.
19. Tried asking Jools @ Silent Hill Studios or Nev at Garden Studios if they're interested in buying this? Might make a good rehearsal rig.
20. I wouldn't want to go out with any less than a 4x10 and a 500w amp these days - even for pub gigs. Any less, and I feel underpowered against a drummer. It's nice not to be running an amp flat out and having a bit of headroom to spare.
21.
I've gone and bought em again, I can't stop myself! Mind u saw em at Arundel Castle outdoors last Autumn and the were awesome, loud, enthusiastic, great weekend away, I guess the Regent at Ipswich wont be the same but, well. As my kids say, "all u need now dad is a Capri, youre a sad bass tard or something like that"
There must be Something About You. I'll get my 80s coat.
22. My gig on the same date's just been confirmed, which means I now can't come. Please can we have another SE Bash soon?
23. Beautiful stain on that. Gorgeous.
24. It's definitely the thrill of the chase.
