1. Hi Jon - welcome. Bass playing on your site sounds great. I see you teach too - how much do you charge for lessons pls?
 2. Welcome Dave. With the $ against the £, you'll find it hard to find a real bargain here I think. That's why we plan all our holidays to the States and bring back half-price guitars! That said, if you want to put a G&L L2000 in Blueburst in your hand luggage, I'll be more than happy to help you through the airport. Enjoy Brighton, it's a great place for music. ps: Warwick is "wo-rick" but without a pause between the syllables.
 3.
Major high street retailers might be able to get away with rude or indifferent staff but niche businesses like bass shops need engaging people who are enthusiastic and I never saw this in my dealings with them.
Fraid to say I'm a +1. Bought my Profet from them but was left with the impression that they weren't bothered if I did or I didn't buy it!
 4.
LM11 & Epifani UL310.
This looks nice and neat - what's it sound like?
 5.
I've got a Fender Urge Mk1. 32" scale and I love the thing !!
"And the winner for most pickups in a single bass goes to..."
 6.
Anyone else into short scale basses?
I have raised my hand but it's so short, you may not be able to see it.
 7. Welcome back. I find this site a nice antidote to the other stuff I really should be doing! Those Yamaha BBs are great basses. No GAS, though? Hang around here long enough and you'll be Googling "G&L Tribute" and "Squier Vintage".
 8. If you're a Stingray player, you'll love the G&Ls. It seems to be the case that once you've tried one, you're hooked. As explained above, the US versions come with a choice of nut widths and fancy paint finishes, whereas the Far East made Tributes come in one size nut, which is about the same as a Precision I think. Worth pointing out that if you don't want to spend the £££s on a US version, the Tributes contain the same P/Ups, electronics and bridge but for much less. I'd suggest trying/buying a Tribute and seeing if you like the sound and feel and then shopping around for the right US one after that, if you like it. That said, I gig my Tributes and the sound and feel is brilliant. Cuts right through.
 9.
Real men carry their gear and don't wheel it around like a bloody air stewardess Is it just me or has there been a recent 'trollyisation' of everyday life? You get off a train these days and get held up behind a queue of otherwise fit and healthy men wheeling what are clearly small and lightweight bags on an inherently unstable trolly as if they were in fact moving a grand piano up a 20% hill. The bloody things invariably require their puny-limbed owners to make numerous adjustments before/during/after stairs, corners, kerbs, cracks in the pavement etc and the resultant slowing of everything else whilst 20 or 30 wimps make said adjustments at the same time renders me utterly speechless. I have however found that the odd word of encouragment such as "do you need a hand carrying your bag love" to a bloke in his mid 20's struggling to get his 10kg trolly bag down the stairs does the trick. Well, it makes me feel better anyway Take home message: If you can't carry it, buy a smaller one! Rant over Chris
Have you been reading the Daily Mail lately? Deep breaths...and relax. ;-)
 10. I think £300 would get people interested.
 11.
I just get the feeling i'll regret it if i go ahead with this. What do you guys think?
They're fantastic basses if you like the zingy sound, but if you're after a more Fender tone, sell it. Sure someone on here will go for it at the right price. Maybe me....
 12. Damn - we're provis booked for a wedding that day - but it gets cancelled, I'll come and bring my G&Ls and Warwick rig.
 13. No import taxes. Flat £7 fee whatever you order, free over 200Euro (I think). Have done 3 or 4 orders with them and the service is fantastic.
 14.
you get what you pay for.
I'm sure you're right and he's brilliant. But it's still a lot of money for what is essentially a simple job. It's just under a third of the cost of my gigging bass! The tech at Andertons seems very good and charges £35ph. Did a nice job on my Stingray - he also oiled the fretboard and cleaned it too (neither of which I'd asked for). Not knocking your guy - just the economics. It's like paying £3000 to have a hatchback serviced.
 15.
Okay, first let me say I feel quite bad about this because I only just picked up this bass yesterday, but I've seen another bass I have to have
Blimey Pete, you're going to de-throne Homer as the champion gear swapper.
 16. Sounds like a school band! If it's purely a bit of fun, don't get worked up about it. Just simplify the basslines so you can play them rather than learn note for note from the record. Bring some tabs in of songs you know (and the guitarist doesn't) and suggest them at the rehearsal. Give him the print out of the chords/tabs and watch him struggle to learn on the spot.
 17.
I've killed a few hifi speakers playing bass through them. Can't reccomend it.
Haha - I wasn't suggesting running your bass through Linn separates, just an old hi-fi you're not using. For a long time, I ran a mixer through an old micro hi-fi that we didn't need anymore. Sounded great and I was able to mix myself in with iTunes to learn stuff. Much more satisfying than cranking up a boomy, hissy bass amp in a small space.
 18.
..But just how scary is it when pub landlords or managers start telling you how to do your sound!!! You want to say something like " P*ss off and go pull some pints and we'll do our F*ing sound, thanks" but you can't, can you....
Haha.. we had a bit of that in a locals place we played last night. And they always come and tell you when you're in the middle of playing a fast song. "Oh yeah, I've got a hand free, I'll just sort that now for you..."
 19. Andertons in Guildford is probably the best place I've used. That Joe White asks for about 90 quid for a set-up which is double what Andertons charge.
 20.
Ha! Can anyone say " Bass Bash Bus" really fast over and over ? lol Sounds like a sterling idea from Nik .. I wait to see the date
Can it drop me off drunk to Fleet on the way home?
 21. Steve Rowse in Surrey did a nice job on my Trace Combo.
 22. If anyone's in the market for a Warwick head, these guys are doing a special on the Profet 5.1 at the moment - £208. That's a lot of amp for the money. It's presumably to clear stock for the revised 5.3 that's just been launched at the NAMM show. Can't see any difference between the two, personally!
 23. Get yourself a small mixer for £40, then run it through a spare hi-fi or some active speakers. Plug the output of your bass and your PC/ipod etc through that. Will sound much better than any amp at home and takes up much less space too.
