1.
I actually already have an El Toro from the late 80's but its been neglected over the years in favour of a couple of "boutique" basses.I played it again recently and realised just how good the bass is.The bass control is more powerful than my other two basses combined and it just feels RIGHT!!
I've not really touched my Stingray since getting my L2000s. And they're only Tributes!
 2. Isn't it just like actors going to acting school? Bear in mind most bass playing jobs in the music industry won't be in Top 10 rock bands. It'll be reading off charts somewhere random like a theatre show or a cruise. It pays to be a Jaco of all trades rather than a Mark King of one.
 3.
Just corrected the code so we can see the pic.
Me see, me want.
 4.
Thanks for the replies guys.I will join BABP and see if i can work something out.I really have GAS for a G&L!!!
Good man - that's another one who's been bitten!
 5.
it's also known as a "tug bar"
I thought that was a bar where ladies danced around poles...
 6.
They said i could order a new bass through them no problem but to expect a $350 shipping charge and then VAT when it arrives.
$350's a bit steep. And they'll be shipping tax on top of that. Might be cheaper to get a return flight to Illinois (where the company says it's based) and pickup yourself. If you're lucky, you won't get stopped at customs in the UK. Edit: you're right, they've got some lovely G&Ls on that site. Had to cross my legs.
 7. Looks like you've been tangoed.
 8. There's been a rise in the number of ultra-modern tribute bands because the new bands get too big too quickly. I wouldn't mind playing in a Killers tribute band but I'd be bored stiff doing Queen and the like!
 9.
Thanks for all the offers of trades. I'm really looking to sell this, as I have too many basses as it is.
Shame - I was going to offer you swapsies on my G&L L1500. And I'm only down the road from you.
 10. It's a bit of a famine in the UK, I'm afraid. Even looking for a Tribute, I was told: "we get what we're given". Buying direct from the States, or flying over there and bringing one back is probably the best solution. You can have a holdiay on the money you save. Otherwise, there's a L1505 and a nice red L2500 on this site if you want so save yourself the hassle! EDIT: just seen your other questions about taxes. Add 20% to the total cost of the bass and shipping and that should give you an idea of what UK customs will want.
 11.
1) How good do you need to be to get into one
Competent but not blisteringly amazing, I'd say. You'll need to be a quick learner of stuff but also realise how to make the basslines work in a band situation rather than playing everything straight off the record. If you're already used to playing in a band, you'll have a head start.
2) Is it worth doing, from a financial point of view? I'm not talking about thousands of pounds a night - if I could come away from a gig with fifty quid in my pocket every time that would be smashing. Are those the big leagues? I've got good enough equipment, I reckon.
If it's for a bit of pocket money, then yes. It's a hobby that pays for itself. If you're looking to make a living out of the money (ie pay the bills) it's a bit depressing. Joining a really busy function band would prob be the only way you'd do it. Remember, you'll have overheads to cover (transport, new strings, new gear, clothes, etc etc). £50 a night won't cover that!
 12. A Lima-based expert on "Fedner guitarse" who wants £2500 for a bass he hasn't got a picture of. Where's my PayPal login, I'm buying it now!
 13. There's Eurohire in Basingstoke (M3 Jct 5). You could then pick the A33 up to Reading and get on the M4 from there. According to their website, they've got an Ampeg rig. Hope that helps.
 14.
This is my setup now.
Nice weapons and rig! I'd love to have a go on that amp setup. Any chance of bringing it to the next SE Bash, if there is one?
 15. A lot of people on here swear by the Skylines. Defo worth checking out for yourself. As are the G&L Tributes, if you can find one (they're a bit hard to locate in the UK). Both of these are far from budget in terms of build quality.
 16. It looks like a guitar shop - well done. Has the day-glo orange Strat copy ever seen a gig? Were people blinded?
 17. Hiya. How much are you after for the head please?
 18.
It's not a turkey. It quite clearly states that it is a pear.
Morelike a plum.
 19.
"I will ship this INSIDE THE CONTINENTIAL US ONLY, sorry."
Don't worry fella, I don't think there's going to be a worldwide scramble to export that turkey!
 20. Was watching a DVD I'd recently bought of Ben Folds Five and was struck by how brilliant their bass player Robert Sledge was. Always been a big fan of BFF before they split, but never really noticed how good he was. He can play subtle runs or all out distorted rock, through jazz. A great player. The DVD's called "West 54th Session" if you're a fan. It's them playing about 7 or 8 tracks live.
 21. If you're splitting for parts, I'll take a hoof.
 22.
I've also never has any problems with the USPS.
+1
 23. Depends what you're playing and whether it feels comfortable to you. Fivers to me feel too big and the strings always seem floppier which is no good for the sort of punk and indie covers I gig. Plus, I'm so used to 4s, that it seems odd to try and do something new. I think they're good for soul and heavy metal but they feel a bit strange playing the Clash and Green Day on!
 24. Two PMs already - it's amazing how a 70s Precision gets people going!
