1. Nice basses Nik but you know you need a G&L to complete the set.
2. Instead of 11 boxes, tonight we're playing a big party gig in central London and we're hiring all the kit in - PA, amps, monitors, soundman - the lot. So I'll just be taking a bass, tuner pedal, leads, a spare pack of strings and, er, that's it. What a nice change from a car load of junk!
3.
Playing with others is a great way to improve, if you're worried about your ability, find musicians of the same level, and try and improve together.
+1. Although you might want to stick some clothes on first BigBeefChief
4. Where's the drummer's tempo? "It's behind you...." Etc etc.
5. I normally operate a "1 in, 1 out" rule. But a couple of bargains recently has torpedoed that. Besides, it's fun choosing what bass to gig. I should cough that I've got six. The ones below plus a Westone Thunder 1A, that I've had since I was 15. Can't get rid of that for [s]senti[/s]mental reasons
6. Beautiful design - stunning. But it's a case for people who never gig. You'd be more worried about that getting scratched or nicked than the guitar inside!
7.
List on an S2 like this is £1750. KingBass to similar specs, with or without the 32 inch scale & bendwell is a little more at £1799. Depends if you want a lot of options added like LEDs, etc.
Ouch. Beautiful basses though.
8. Very nice Status. Roughly what does it costs to get one of these made please?
9. 11 things including the PA and a powered wedge.
10. There's always that one gig that catches you out - sounds like you got through it though - so well done. I do a similar role in our band too, running the PA, website and bulk of the bookings but the other two guys are happy to help out whenever I ask, so it's all good. Agree about the iPod too. I always have it cued up for the break and as soon as we finish. There's nothing worse than off to silence!
11. Sorry to hear that Jon. FWIW, the bass playing on the demos sounds great. Nice feel and tone. I play in a covers band in the Fleet/Guildford area, so if we ever need a dep, I'll give you a shout.
12. Would love to come but we're playing Berrylands nr Surbiton (of all places). New venue for us too. Have a good gig though.
13. Treat it like buying a pair of shoes/jeans. Do the bass feel comfy, suit you and would you been seen out in public with it? If it's yes to all of these, then you should be fine. Don't think too much about it, trust your gut feeling.
14. Great price - although the pic and the spec look to be US. The Tribs are great, mind. Compare to Fender J/USA or Musicman SUBs. These aren't MIMFender/Squiers/Epiphone quality. Much better.
15.
Ed Straker says: "It's part of late 60s early 70s British culture don't you know..." Caption: S.I.D. (Space Intruder Detector) "Alert...unidentified bass player unfamiliar with classic Gerry Anderson late 60s Sci-Fi culture" (Bit of fun really!!)
16. Ok, so we've established you live in Kent, you've not got a passport to get past Dartford and you're frightened of dealing with foreign lands. In that case, get the horse and cart and make your way down the A299 towards Herne Bay. Apparently there's a shop called Mac's Music there that stocks G&Ls. 01227 363738. Ask to try a Tribute L2000 if he's got one. Get an ice-cream and sit on the beach at Tankerton if he hasn't.
17.
Still, I'd rather pay 30% more. Can't be doing with ebay. In fact, I have a general distrust/dislike for bargains! Likewise, would never import anything. Can't be doing with exchange rates.
Haha. Don't be scared of foreign lands (outside of Kent). Although I wouldn't recommend paying £1 to go to Essex on the bridge. It's overpriced.
18.
Ed Starker says: "Colonel Foster and a team of SHADO mobiles have just reported finding a bass guitar amplification system in a UFO wreckage. Amongst some obscure CDs by someone called Manring and Wooten, they discovered an Ampeg B100-R Bass Combo but it had 'Made in PRC' on the rating label!" "What's happened to good 'ol US Ampegs??"
Wha....? Is this some sort of Star Trek speak? Fraid you've lost me.
19.
Our drummer is still struggling with hearing whether something is in front or behind. He tends to play in front all the time when the song needs him to play behind.
Reminds me of that old joke: Q: How do you know when a drummer's knocking at your door? A: It gets faster.
20. Yeah, take some snaps. We like looking at basses! Welcome.
21.
These bass guys, the only people that buys their music are bassists, and I don't believe that's cause it's a 'refined' taste, I think it's cause it's sh*t LOL.
22. Walking out there and then is probably costing you 30% more. Plus you're missing out on stuff like this, which you could probably get (inc paying all taxes) for under £350. 23.
Ibanez guitars are horrible and should be made illegal.
Haha..not a fan of Ibbies? I've got a couple of six strings and they're fantastic. One's a Les Paul type and the finish is amazing. Sounds great too - nice and warm.
24. Nice bass. Do like the natural/maple look. Go on then, how much?
