1. I'd be distressed if someone did that to my bass. What a muppet.
2. Well done. What's the band and the music?
3.
What about God Rest Ye Merry Musicmen or We Mark Kings of Orient Are..sorry, I'll get my donkey.
Hang on, you're forgetting "Fender Claus Is Coming To Town" and "Hark The Harold Ampegs Sing".
4. That looks like a Flender Clopy, I'm afraid.
5.
Sound Control beneath Virgin Megastore could be worth a visit at a quiet time of day, if only for the amount of stock they carry.
+1. There's loads of stock there and you can find what style of bass suits you best. Tell them you're a beginner and let them guide you. Don't bother with the Bass Centre or Denmark Street, they'll just patronise you. Good luck.
6.
MB1. "Whats a good bass for my Wife?"........... Can you Post some pictures of her!....would be willing to trade....but need to know what she looks like....i do have a bass i was considering parting with!
Haha... Actually isn't teaching your wife to play bass mixing business with pleasure?
7. Got both of mine from US Ebay. Factor in $100 shipping and about £70 UK tax and you can get a new L2000 Tribute into the country for £350. Worth paying extra for a hardcase for it to ship in though, one of mine arrived with a big ding in the back.
8.
Generally ANYTHING suggested by Pissed tart thats had to much to drink.....(last seen screaming at our singer "Play sum Fuggin OWAYSIZ"...)
She comes to a few of our gigs.
9. I've been having a bit of an 80s flashback of late and have found myself lusting after a Status again. Bloody GAS! I can't help it, it's the graphite. There's only really one I've got eyes for and that's an all-graphite Series 2000, preferably in that greeny/grey tint. Anyone got one? Any good? Am I out of my mind? Going for a lie down now...
10. Status 3000 on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/STATUS-3000-GRAPHITE...1QQcmdZViewItem
11. Great review and pix. And the bass looks cool too - although with one pickup so close to the neck, it makes me shudder to think of the warm rounded sound this might make. Goes against my 'spiky' and 'growly' Stingray religion.
12.
Im sorry to spoil the fun... I worked on crew for a McFly concert and there were no additional musicians... and they were quite good! They had a lot of dummy amps though, but they do play live (perhaps not on telly though!).
Spoilsport! I had visions of some old duffers knocking out the tunes from a pit under the stage.
13.
A G&L 2500 Tribute is now top of my GAS list. Damn you !
Sorry, that clip should come with a [s]health[/s] wealth warning.
14. Not my thing but amazing looking instrument. It looks like a museum piece. More importantly what did the wife say when you got it home?
15.
I've just spoke to a friend of mine who knows him, she spoke to him a couple of days ago. He's still about, he still teaches and does sessions. He's been playing with a couple of Jazz bands in London, Morissey Mullen, and Pazz. Also he isn't online yet, but will be told we are remembering him in cyber space, it'll make him happy!
Great, can she also ask him if he's still got that early G&L and does he want to swap a Stingray for it? What?
16.
I need a SERIOUS bass player to play in what I suppose would be a Maroon 5 esque band. I'm talking an experienced player who can play the crap out of the instrument with his/her fingers
Wouldn't it be better to find someone who could play in the pocket for a Maroon 5-esque band rather than play the crap out of a bass? Are you being 'serious'?
17.
Wasn't there a thread about basschat being 'friendly' somewhere? Doesn't include not laughing at someone asking a question?
Yeah it is a friendly place. Going "Hahahaha" is akin to being a nerd on a StarTrek forum. If you're under 30 and don't like bland MOR pop-funk, there's no reason why you should know who Mark King is. I say that as a fully "rehabbed" L24 fan from back in the day.
18. I'm content for the time being too - although it doesn't stop you looking. Saying that, I go into guitar stores now and there's nothing I really want to buy. For what I do, punk/rock/indie covers, a G&L mid-priced bass and a mid-priced Warwick head and cab does me fine. It's got the sound I want for not too serious money. I think gigging soon makes you realise what you need and what you don't need. If you're playing live, you tend to focus more on the practical stuff like does it work, does it sound good and can I fit it in the car. If you never leave the house, you do focus more on whether you've got a bass that looks amazing, with a quilted maple top and LEDs. That said, there's nothing wrong with having that. Now, back to eBay...
19. Buy of one the cheap Squier P's in the for sale section and tell her you won it in a competition when it arrives.
20. A few people have been asking what my L2000 Tribute sounds like. Here's one being demo'd. It's the same finish as mine. :-)
21. Whatever happened to Henry "King Thumb" Thomas, bass-playing star of BBC 80s show, Rockschool? I just stumbled on some clips of the show on YouTube and it gave me a scary flashback to sitting in front of a Betamax VCR, getting ready to press record. Anyone interested in nostalgia should watch from 2'30 in on this clip. Nice early G&L L2000 too!
