1.
£13 an hour ? That's pretty steep ! I pay £9 an hour and could get £6 during week days.
Welcome to Surrey and Hampshire.
2.
The amps are rubbish because they are cheap, they are old and they are thrashed by players who don't care what they do to them! But, my view is that you're in a rehearsal room for the band to learn to play a number together so the sound doesn't matter.
Hmm... I'd agree if I wasn't paying 13 pounds an hour.
3. Put your bass down and hum along to the chords. Then try to work out how to play what you're humming. Makes you think a bit more creatively. Remember the old maxim though: less is more.
4. Stick some pics up and I reckon someone here will bite your hand off for it. Those 4x10 combos are great. Edit: actually - whereabouts in the country are you? (Says to self: "I know I've got one already but...")
5. I'm moving to Leicester - sounds like it's the place for bass players to rehearse! The places near me have either beaten up Peavey stuff from the middle ages or 100w combos that have been thrased to death by thrash bands who sing about death. The only decent place we go to is a portacabin but it does have an elderly Trace Elliot combo which despite it looking like it needs putting down, still sounds good. It's the only place where I feel like I've had a good rehearsal.
6. Why is it bass amps in rehearsal rooms are always terrible? They're either farty and boomy or terrible combos that have no power. Guitarists always seem to do ok with what's available but I find it really makes for a cr*p rehearsal when you can't get a good sound. Quite often, I go to rehearsals straight from work and so can't take my own stuff but I wish I could. Anyone else find this or is it just me?
7.
+1 I'd pay £20 for the case! Looks like they fit nice
Haha... My first reaction was: "what a horrible case". Just goes to show - beauty is in the eye etc...
8. What's that Rumble 2x10 combo like? I used to have the 1x15" one and it was ace. Wish I still had it.
9. If it's just for home use, you might not need one. Instead buy a small mixer like this for £40 and plug your bass/PC or iPod into that and run it through a hi-fi or headphones. Works a treat for me.
10.
IMHO, they're great sounding cabs, especially for the price. Big phat big punchy tight sound with the horn and 6x10s. Gonna miss it to be honest and I'm only getting rid of it because I had the opportunity to have G Major's EBS cabs.
Can defo recommend these cabs. Really punch above their weight for the cash.
11. Welcome Nick - your story is a familiar one around here - me included. You'll find it's a pretty friendly site, populated by nice people. Keep an eye on the classifieds too, there are some good bargains to be had.
12. The queue for the ladies will be huge. Let us know how it goes.
13. Spotted on tradeit.co.uk G&L TRIBUTE SB2 bass guitar, dark blue, rosewood finger board, as new condition £225 01452 500272 Glos Advert Placed: 19/10/2007
14. If I'm at home, it's usually the last thing I've learned. If it's in a guitar shop, I normally can't remember a single one!
15. I had another look at my BB614 tonight and I take back what I said about it being a bit mass produced. If it had Fender on the headstock, people would coo about how well it was made.
16. If you squint, it looks like a Rickenbacker. Whats it sound like?
17. Tell the guitar player to stop moaning and get lifting!
18. Last bass cost $80 via USPS. Think it was Global Priority Mail and took about a week to arrive.

PC v Mac

I wish I'd got a Mac instead of the new laptop I bought earlier this year. The Mac software looks great, Vista is awful. Trouble is, when you've gone down the PC route and bought loads of little bits of software for Windows (as I have for my desktop PC), it's a big ask to swap over. That said, right now I'd like to build a simple website for my band. Can my Vista "Premium" laptop do that? Can it $#$#$#@. I'll prob have to buy a bit of software that won't work properly and then get another one to upload it. Grrr! If I did buy a Mac as my new desktop PC, could I still use my existing wireless router and my Windows laptop downstairs? I'm guessing yes. But anyone know?
20. Oh bugger - I've been rumbled. Although because of the postal strikes, I've yet to see my copy. Thanks Sean for the Trace combo. It sounds great and defo worth the return trip to Bristol to pick it up. I'll prob use it again on Friday night at the local pub. Watch out for the next issue which should feature another BC'er in the Weekend Warrior slot. I will keep his identity a mystery so as not to spoil the surprise. Good to hear you're all buying BGM. The more support it gets, the more it can grow.
21. I bought one of these with the foam insert for my small mixer last time they marked them down. Does the job perfectly. Really snug fit. Would defo recommend.
