1. Great looking bass. If I hadn't just bought a G&L, I'd be waving some Clydesdale bank (or similar) tenners in your direction. Have a free bump from me doon sooth, though. Good luck with the sale.
2. I don't think it makes a massive difference to the sound. They'll be much better for your back however. I couldn't cope without my wheels.
3.
Tis true about the Ambi-pur thing. We had one spill onto a painted shelf and it lifted the paint right off.
Don't tell Pete Doherty, he'll try to smoke it.
4.
I currently have a Trace Elliot 7215 combo (300W 1 x 15). I'm convinced that it is not as loud as it used to be.
That'll be you going deaf! Sure others will have better advice than me on the amp front. But a mate's got an Eden Nemesis 4x10 combo that he's really pleased with. That's pretty light and compact for a 4x10. About £700 I think.
5. Suggest http://www.nme.com/freeads if you've not tried already. Younger age range than here. Good luck with the band.
6. Each to their own. Personally, I'd rather be paid to play songs that people like rather than have to flyer 50 of my mates in order to break even. Unless you're still dreaming of making it, life's too short!
7. Good work! Welcome to the G&L bargain club.
8. Stupid question - but as a newbie to 5-string, I'm wondering if my current kit will be ok to use with it? Should I be careful about using a 5-string with it? It's a 600w 4x10 cab.
9. Nice newsletter. Adds to the already good, friendly, community feel to this site. Well done all.
10.
Well, I finally acquired a G&L ASAT - very pleased. Then couldn't resist the L2500.
You bought one, and then another to keep it company - I like your style! They're great basses aren't they? So well made and comfortable to play. You gonna spill the beans about how much they cost?
11. Haha... I also remember using one of those beasts - at school in the early 80s! Just to complete the terrible sound, they had a Hondo bass to run though it. Probably one of the most awful instruments I've ever played!
12. Those gnomes have been refinished too - they should be Lake Placid Blue.
13.
...the bass guy said that whoever gets to play bass for The Spice Girls reunion tour would get £100,000 a week, A WEEK!!!!!
Try lopping a couple of noughts off the end, and that's probably more like it. I'm guessing the bass player in that band's going to be pretty far down the food chain. That said, Posh doesn't look like she eats much, so at least they'll be leftovers at the backstage buffet.
14.
Did you get the free Zon bass for all those who registered before 19th August??
You got a Zon? How come I only got an Alembic?
15.
My 75 Reissue Limited Edition Jazz
Was that the shiny red one? That was a beaut...
16.
If you're going to do that then maybe we should have retro theme (not J-Retro) and I'll bring my WEM and Sound City bits. Anyone got a Framus Star bass?
My Trace Elliot's not that retro - it'll still horrify any vintage tone fans with it's scooped hi-fi sound.
17. Good thread idea - mine's an OLP Stingray 4. Didn't like the passive but should have modded it rather than flogged it at a loss. Doh!
18. Silverfoxnik has got two for sale - a Yammy BB615 (no pickguard, but retro look) and a re-worked Sub 5. It's different to a normal SR5, so you might like it more. Both in for sale section.
19.
So what do we think? Utter cr@p or possibly OK?
Does sound dodgy. Stick to your guns: cleared cheque, PayPal or cash on collection - no exceptions. I always think offering up your bank details for tranfers are dodgy too, so decline any offers. Ask for a landline phone number to discuss, that usually scares them off!
20. Does it sound as good as it looks?
21. That's an awful lot of bass for the money. The Yamaha BB614s &615s are fantastic. Mine's become my main gigging bass of late despite the other two listed below. The pre-amp adds a lot of punch and they can do rock, punk, funk, whatever. Great for cover bands. Don't be put off by the word "Yamaha" - it's often much better than the F word. Good luck with the sale Nik.
22. Thanks OBBM for organising it. It was my first bash and it was interesting to meet and chat to everybody. Loved NickThomas' G&L L2500 and CK's Cutlass (go on then, stick it in a bag and I'll take it). Silverfoxnik played my Stingray better than it's ever been played (git), so he's now booked to dep for me at all my gigs. Was en route from a band rehearsal so didn't manage to bring gear much along but will pack the car up for the next time! May even bring the 1984 prototype Trace Elliot combo.
23. Buy a secondhand decent quality rig rather than Behringer. You'll feel better about it in the long run. Chances are the s/h kit will hold its money better too. Oh and 300w+ Like a lot of people say, you're better off running the amp at 3 than having to run it flat out.
24.
Anyone else a little bemused by the glut of Warwick Streamers on for sale? Not healthy for suppressing that bad bad GAS.
It's sod's law. When you're not looking they're everywhere - the minute you've got some cash together they vanish!
