I have a similar issue to the OP here. There is a rattling when I dig in on certain fretted notes. I did a little investigating and found that one of the tuning pegs is a little loose (see video). I'm not terribly technically minded so was wondering if someone could give me an idiot's guide to fixing this issue, please? I don't want to accidentally super glue the tuner at the wrong point so that it won't move! 😅 20211119_122233.mp4

SOLD! Fender Modern Player Short Scale Jazz Bass

For sale is my Fender Modern Player Short Scale Jazz Bass, Crafted in China, in good condition. Bought on Basschat just over a year ago, it has had only home use since then - never gigged. The P/J pickup configuration and responsive tone control give you access to a wide range of sounds. The J pickup is a 'Hot Jazz' model and the P pickup has plenty of gain on tap as well. It has a fast, easy playing neck. The finish is a lush translucent white through which you can see a beautiful wood grain. It has a tortoiseshell pickguard, and a vintage tint maple neck with rosewood fretboard. Not only does it sound and look good, it's also fairly rare - only 200 were made I believe. It has recently been restrung with GHS flatwound strings and had a professional setup. One thing to note is that the drive on the heads of the A and D intonation screws have been somewhat rounded out. When I had the bass set up I asked if they would replace them but they said it wasn't necessary and indeed have set the intonation perfectly. I just mention it here in the interest of transparency. I've loved playing this bass and in a perfect world I'd keep it, but I'm trying to streamline my collection. Collection only from East Dulwich in South London.

Hercules stand for 2 basses (or guitars I suppose 😉). Can be adjusted to accommodate long and short scale instruments. In good condition and has been folded away in the corner of a room for some time since I downsized my collection. Seeing it sitting there just makes me think of buying more basses, so please save me from myself! £30 collected from South London. I've included a picture of it in action below.

Resurrecting this thread to praise the One Control Crimson Red, which I actually bought from OP @SumOne. Gives my little Mustang huge bottom end and can get my fretless Jazz into quasi-upright territory. It's currently my only pedal. Recently, I've even considered getting a second one in case the unthinkable happened and this one stopped working! 😂

I'm one of those people who can't decide if they want compression or not. You can be the beneficiary of my latest rebound - my Aguilar TLC Compressor is available for £105 plus £5 postage if needed, the same price I paid for it on Reverb. I'll probably be on here in a couple of months looking for my next fix! The pedal has Velcro on the bottom. It comes with the original box. To give a little update on where I'm at with this now... I contacted Essex Amp Repairs and they responded very quickly to let me know they can repair the amp for £59/hr plus parts. I can't fault their communication and it's good to hear that they will repair Markbass stuff as some other techs I've spoken to point-blank refuse. However, when parts (and courier) are factored in the cost unavoidably has the potential to mount up. Added to this, the amp has on the whole been behaving recently. I've also actually noticed that it's when using my higher output bass that problems start to occur - so I am going to have a fiddle with the setup on that instrument. My medium term solution, along the lines of what @Sparky Mark is doing, is to search out a used Markbass cab that can either be paired with the 121p combo as long as it is functioning or with another head (my Trace Elliot ELF). On the subject of Ashdown, I've also had excellent customer support from them in the past.

Thanks for the step-by-step! 👍🏻👍🏻

Ok, doesn't sound *too* tricky even for me... I may give it a try then if I'm feeling brave! 😅

Ah cheers for this. Must admit I'm a total novice when it comes to something like changing a combo head. I'm based in London, so I wonder if there's somewhere on Denmark St where they'd take a look and install a new head for me if needed.

Thanks mate - I'll get in touch with them and see what they say 👍🏻 And yes, I've heard that about the cost of MB repairs so am approaching this with a little trepidation... Fingers crossed.

Can anyone recommend somewhere to get my Markbass Mini CMD 121P combo serviced? It is growing increasingly crochety - one day it will be nice and smooth, another day harsh sounding with distorted lows. Some of the pots are crackly too. This is all at home practice volume. In short I could do with having it looked at by someone who knows what they are doing! I'm based in South London... All advice gratefully received! 🙏

Purchased on Basschat earlier this year and never having left the house since then, this is a superb product from the One Control amp-in-a-box line, in excellent condition. I use my Crimson Red more though and have my eye on a new compressor so putting this up as an offering to the G.A.S. gods, asking just the £90 I paid for it. Someone snap it up before I change my mind! I have the original box & can post. Details from One Control website: Features The Silver Sonic Peg reproduces the sound of an iconic 70s tube amp with a similar name. This highly responsive bass pre-amp is adaptable to any style of play. With a dynamic tone range similar to the original amp, the switch on the side of the enclosure allows for a boost/cut of 15dB. Evidently, this pedal is perfect for any bass player. Specifications Input impedance: 1 M Output impedance: 20K Drive voltage: 9 V Consumption current: 2 mA S / N ratio: -90 dB Size: 39 W x 100 D x 31 H mm (not including projections) 47 W x 100 D x 48 H mm (including projections) Weight: Approximately 160 g True-Bypass Switching High Quality Aluminum Enclosure Power: 9V Battery or Standard DC Power Supply Bjorn's Description With every pick of the strings, a certain attack is added which in turn creates power and momentum for the band. And with each slap, thick sustain adds a color to the bass tone, along with an important dignified presence. In my opinion, all bass amps should respond dynamically to speed and power. Monumental vintage bass amps have a vibrant coloring, wide tolerance and a deep breath that can correspond to any genre. We captured the sound similar to the 100W "V4" tube amplifier released by Ampeg in the 1970s. Since 1969, the sound of the electric bass was changed forever. The "SVT" came into the world. The "SVT" amplifier, which has been described by many as a "legendary amp", revolutionized the bass world. To the best of my knowledge, SVT is the first bass amplifier to adopt a speaker cabinet with a higher resonance frequency than the bass sound of the bass guitar. The V series, the successor of the SVT model, also has the same characteristics. The 8 "× 10 cabinet of the V series also has a higher resonance frequency than the sound of the bass guitar. Additionally, the player will experience low distortion and phenomenal power. Sonic Silver Peg succeeded in reproducing the power of the legendary amplifier by installing the Volume control at an early stage in the circuit. In addition, like the original, Sonic Silver Peg has an active Mid knob that realizes a boost / cut of ± 15 dB centered around 800 Hz. The Tone knob controls the low pass filter which can sweep from 300 Hz to 10 kHz. And, with the 0 dB / -15 dB switch, it is also possible to switch the sound of the two original inputs. From a clean, craftsmanship bass tone to colorful and powerful overdrive tones. Since there is a sufficient output level, it can also be outputted directly to a mixer. This pedal creates the craved universal bass tone that everyone is looking for. Try the Sonic Silver Peg for yourself. - Bjorn Juhl
