The real magic happens at 6:24 (Adam Holman and Guthrie Govan) but Marco minnemann’s drumming is superb throughout

I can just see the finish getting better as time goes on. I do have a tub of Renaissance wax from a previous need and I tried that in a small test area but it just sealed the wood and polished shiney it’s bloody good stuff but not for 77

77 has been stripped, fettled, tightened, cleaned, fretboard oiled, body waxed, reassembled and restrung. Took slightly longer than I intended but it’s such a lovely bass I went over every inch of wood and checked every screw, nut and control. The Feed N Wax has performed as I was expecting from reports, it hasn’t coloured the wood at all but has soaked in and left an almost warmer look to the body, not so clinically new and crisp, it looks for want of a better word more, ‘comfortable’. It certainly feels a lot smoother and comfortable (I did the back of the neck too.) It was strung with DR sunbeams (nickel) which I’ve used for awhile on my fretless and other basses but I’ve gone for the DR fat beams (stainless) this time and oh stinky poo do they suit this bass. Juicy thick low end and punchy mids, highs are a little more reserved (I like that) than other stainless strings I’ve tried but I’ll be sticking with the fat beams on 77. She’s singing through the SVT and Bag Ends so I’m off to upset the neighbours!

On another note, I’ve been looking at wax to nourish and pamper the 77’s natural finish, I’d considered the contents of the cupboard under the sink and even toyed with the idea of getting some Warwick wax (shocking I know) as I used it on a Thumb I once owned but couldn’t bring myself to use it on the Spector. I don’t use lemon oil on fretboards I use crimson guitars own brand cleaner and restorative and they are fine products so I don’t have any lying around to follow the recommended Spector regime and besides I’d have to buy lemon oil and wax. I did however see quite a few recommendation for Howard’s Feed-N-Wax which contains orange oil, beeswax and carnauba wax so while I was away I ordered a bottle and it was here when I got home today, it smells fantastic. So tomorrow morning will be 77 spit and polish day and we’ll see how the wax does. I’ll report back after the full service.

Love all the hints of rush in the background including the spit roast and the washing machines

We used to go into a record shop by my school at dinner time up the winding stair to a dingy room over a row of shops and pick out our treasures with grubby mitts encased in plastic sleeves. The guy let us lay away and pay for them bit at a time, we could go back and he’d play us tracks from the album until we’d paid it off. I can still remember asking him to play something from a band I’d heard about called Rush. He played the the 4th track “here again” from the first album. I put my deposit (probably about 10p) on that album instantly in the first opening lyrics geddy sang and lay awake every night until I paid it off and took it home. Rush were never my top band but damn that moment has always stayed with me.

I think they probably sounded louder back in the day as they used ground stacks instead of the flying array you got everything full in your face if you were in the front stalls or anywhere close to the stage

I haven’t tried a great array of Spector’s but I have tried a great variety of basses over the years and I have to say my 77 with sunbeams is an absolute pleasure to play. ive ordered some fat beams to try out with it too. My other Spector has Blue steels for a bit more bite, it also doesn’t have the tone pump trim pot so hasn’t the versatility of the 77.

Your quite right Getting drunk and looking at the classified ads is deadly 🤣😂 however this time I was quite clear headed, I saw this model when spector set them free into the wild and was determined to catch one.

Just got myself one from @Alfie Noakes and I’m finding it hard to put down even though I’ve been playing mostly fretless this last 6 months. photo is from Phil too I’m not at home at the moment. I’ve got my eye on your 79 too @Paulhauser 😏

UFO at Birmingham Odeon in the 80’s. they stopped the gig and made them turn down due to the plaster starting to shake off the ceiling. Although we always went home on the bus from there with our ears ringing after a rock gig.

Bought some wall hangers and they arrived well packed and as described. Cheers

It’s good that music is still liked by some and hated by others it keeps the genres rolling, refreshing, and reinventing. Not understanding the language of modern music has been repeated through the ages. Personally I’m old enough to have gone through a number of them and while I don’t love some I don’t think I’ve ever thought any as “bilge.” They’re successful artists making good money, they’re doing something right. I’m glad it had such a passionate effect on you, music should arouse feelings whatever they are. I too like hip-hop but comparing American influenced street music with British Grime is like comparing Buddy Holly and the Crickets to Black Sabbath, even if both styles have the word “Rock” in them and are guitar driven.
