  1. Thanks Dave, appreciate the info for future gigs. The load in was a pain, we knew they had a trolley, but the previous band were using it to load out! Anyway, was the bands last gig as BL nuked it last night after a couple of us raised issues about volume, lack of teamwork etc. Now working on the splinter project.
  2. Wild Hogs played The Cave in Paisley last night, not a bad wee gig, great venue. Bit of a trek as most of us are based over the east and there's horrible roadworks. Our sound was a bit off, not much time to get set up after the previous band (who were excellent) and guitarists being too loud as usual. Bit rusty in the first set, managed to absolutely mangle Poison somehow. The had a comedy of errors - my bass strap snapping halfway thru a song, drummer losing a drumstick mid-song, drunk dancing guy accidentally kicking over the singers water and almost frying the mixer and a pedalboard. All that aside, crowd got right into it, so all good. Until...not for the first time recently, I made a slight wee error. Had parked the car in a nearby multi-storey...not realising it shut at 9pm! Ooops. Logistics meant a couple of us were stuck, so ended up shelling out for a hotel and racing to get there before check-in closed. I'm such an idiot, I'll never hear the end of this one. Venue staff let me leave the PA and my gear there overnight, so picked it all up today and got home eventually, about 14 hours later than expected.
  3. OK, here they are...I mean it's better than the original, but still rotten! It’s early morning, the sun comes out we hit the stage, no room for doubt The crowd is roaring, the energy’s high We rock this town.. and reach for the sky The Crowd are Hungry, they need to tell We play it loud... we feed them well More days to come, new places to go We've got to leave, to another show Here I am... The Body is breaking, its starts to shout a Feeling is coming, to break out loud Trapped in these cages, 'til storm breaks loose Hit the boards and Rock the way we choose The night is calling, we have to go The Streets are Hungry, they run the show We're Back on the Road, we're ready to win No time to feel this Love at First Sting.
  4. Choosing songs is a problem in our band (one of many at the moment). The guitarists are very inflexible in terms of styles and complexity. They only want to do simple songs and half the time the want to cut out bits...intro's, middle sections, basically anything interesting. Really frustrating. They both want to do Rock You Like A Hurricane by the Scorpions. Our female singer doesn't want to as the lyrics are both sexist and pish. So BL rewrote them...or rather, got AI to rewrite them. Brutal, never heard anything like it, just a ridiculous idea IMO. It's still a no from singer, me and the drummer.
  5. I run two of these, excellent cabs. Great price for anyone looking. GLWTS!
  6. Was back at the Hive in Edinburgh on Thursday there with Wild Hogs. We almost had to pull the gig as our singer was struggling to speak with a sore throat and the drummer had staved his thumb badly, but they both powered through. Was a great night, not a huge crowd, but all very enthusiastic and joined in with a lot of singing and dancing. Past couple of gigs have been like that after a not so great one a couple of months back. Wee break for us now for holidays & Download. Gear pictured - Squier 40th Anniversary Precision, 2 Markbass New York 121s, Warwick Gnome and HX Stomp.
  7. Sounds like a good project! I've been in a couple of Americana/Americana-adjacent bands. This site has always been good for what's happening on the scene, if you've not seen it already - https://americana-uk.com/
  8. My updated board centred around the Helix HX Stomp. Shamelessly stole the midi controller idea from someone on here who was selling a similar setup (apologies, I can't remember the name). Thought this was me done for a while but I've been having some minor issues with the Boss WL-50 (probably down to the 2 guitarists in the band subsequently buying the exact same bit of kit). So may upgrade that at some point.
  9. Bought a Boss VE-20 Vocal Performer pedal from Patrick, really easy transaction, great communication and a great guy. And he didn't ask me to sing!
  10. Just checked mine as I couldn't remember. Volume 1 has full tab & notation...Volume 2 is mainly just notation with some tab to get each exercise started. Oddly Volume 3 which I've not really looked at properly yet seems to be full tab and notation again.
  11. I had the exact same issue with the Truetone One Spot earth pin snapping off. GuitarGuitar sent me a replacement with no issues, but I never really trusted it after that and was always super cautious when using it. I ended up buying the Truetone CS6 as it fits on the underside of my pedalboard, it's been great, and as it has a standard kettle/IEC cable I've got no worries about the plug. But yeah, that's Truetone again which you understandably want to avoid!
  12. Really horrible to hear this, del Amitri are one of my all time favourite bands and Justin is a tremendous songwriter. My dad has Parkinsons and its brutal to watch the slow decline.
  13. Yeah that was us. Just the bands 5th gig, 4th since me and the singer joined. The Dreadnought have been good for us. I'm pencilling in the glam bands Xmas gig, although hoping I can catch you before then. Got tickets for Maiden Scotland at the Dreadnought too in May, always a great night.
  14. Great stuff Dave, we played the Dreadnought on Friday night. When I went for a pee I saw the Emergency Exit poster and thought, where do I know that name from?...then where do I know that bassist from? Ah, it's Dave from Basschat! I would have liked to have come along to see you, but combo of post-gig knackeredness and daughters 19th birthday shenanigans put paid to any chance of it. Glad you got a good crowd. We expected a handful of folk, but was better than expected, although not overly busy. Enjoyed the gig though, sound engineer was great. It's a cracking place to play. If I was local I'd be seeing bands there every week.
  15. Why? Why did you have to show me this? Just as I was getting happy with my pedalboard setup and telling myself I don't need/want any new toys...
  16. Few that I quite like - Why We Love Music - John Powell The Inner Game of Music - Barry Green How To Write One Song - Jeff Tweedy
  17. This is absolutely superb. Fine work sir!
  18. Last gig of the year for us last night, supporting Too Late To Atone at The Monarch Bar in Dunfermline. Played a 45 min set, had a blast, cracking crowd. Headline band were superb and looked after us very well. I kept things super simple and skipped the pedalboard, just straight from bass to the amp & PA. Thoroughly enjoyable evening even if my post-set bevvies are having an adverse effect on my head today.
  19. Yeah I'm from Carluke and most of my family are from (and still reside in) Wishaw & surrounding areas. I used to play for the Clydesdale Colts American football team and the player of the year do was always at Cambusnethan Miners. Pleased to hear its still going. Glad the bass is ok.
  20. A blast from the past for me! Had many a great night in there in the mid-90s. Hope your bass and gear is all ok, what a shame that idiot had to ruin a good night.
  21. Can you copy and paste another preset over the top of the corrupted ones?
  22. Second ever gig for the rock covers band I joined in March last night. At the Hive Nightclub in Edinburgh. Had an absolute blast, great wee venue, crowd got right into it pretty much from the start, plenty of signing, dancing and a bit of headbanging. Rig for those interested : Squier 40th Anniversary Precision (I love this thing, can't stop playing it, use it over my more expensive basses now) into Warwick Gnome I Pro 600 (via Helix HX Stomp) and Markbass New York 121 cab. Was DI'd from the amp and used IEMs to ensure I heard myself...it's loud up there. Has to be said, a good gig is great for the old mental health.
  23. Anyone know of a good bag for this amp? The one it recommends seems to be too small, I suspect possibly the text has been copied from the other Gnome amps.
  24. Yeah, I did ask some guys I know who played there recently. The bassist was DI'd but took his cab to hear himself on stage - not quite sure why a monitor wouldn't have sufficed, but then they are a 7 piece outfit with 4 guitarists. Four!
