I'd heard about this before, likely on this very forum. The amp in questions doesn't have an effects loop, thanks for mentioning though, will bear in mind in the future (the new amp does have it).

Hi all, thanks so much for the responses, much appreciated! With my thinking being pretty much exactly what @BassmanPaul says in the last post, me/the band should be suitably equipped, so I've gone ahead, bitten the bullet and ordered a new amp. No ideal financially but it makes sense in the long run. One less stress!

Our 5 piece rock band has a gig in a couple of weeks at a venue we've not played before. We're trying to figure out what gear we need to bring - they've got a PA system. My problem is my amp head has been having power issues, got it back from repair last week but using it at rehearsal last night, it's still intermittently cutting out - so obvs no use for gigging. I was going to take the head and cab to ensure I can hear myself on stage (lead guitarist is very loud!). Ideally, if we had our own PA, I'd go ampless. I've got a setup for that, and recently purchased the Lekato wireless IEM system, which I've started to use at one of our rehearsal rooms which has a good PA. Question is, can I rock up and use that at the venue? Is that too risky? Would I be better biting the bullet and just getting a new amp head in time for the gig? Any other options - I was thinking of getting a lightweight powered speaker to use as a personal monitor, but I don't really know much about that side of things. Plan for the band is to invest in a PA early next year, so the expense of a new head at this point might not be the best bet.

Post your pedal board - Basschat style!!

Here's my compact-ish board. Hopefully that's it settled for some time, just added a 1 Spot CS6 underneath to simplify all the power requirements. It will see gig action in a few weeks. -
E-tickets...how do you sell tickets for your band??
grapefruitmoon replied to jonnybass's topic in General Discussion
We've used Skiddle for our most recent gigs, although I've not been involved in the setup, the BL has taken care of it all. Fees seem to be 10% of ticket price plus 25p. -

Got the Satin Red P delivered yesterday and loving it. Amazing bass for the money. Cheers to all on here for the heads up! -
Bought a G&L Fallout shortscale bass from Sam, couldn't have been a better experience! Good guy, no hassles, absolute pleasure to deal with. Thanks!

Unpopular Musical Opinions: What are Yours?
grapefruitmoon replied to Mykesbass's topic in General Discussion
Queen are/were the worst band on the planet. Bohemian Rhapsody is also the worst song ever. Britpop was the lowest point in musical output and culture in the UK. Despite being Scottish, I utterly despise bagpipes and pipe bands. All of these opinions have caused friends to shout at me. -

My mum bought this LP when I was a youngster. Thanks for bringing back the childhood ear trauma. -
I've never been into the Beatles at all, but thoroughly enjoyed watching this. The live rooftop performance was outstanding. And the fashion...my god, the fashion!!

Guessing it's not this, but it's the first one that came to mind.

Sky Arts and other music related programmes

Saw them at the Queens Hall in Edinburgh last week doing a mainly acoustic show, they were great. Really enjoyed that documentary too. -
Oh god, yes, exactly this for me too. I've been a Maiden fan since around 86, finally got to see them in Glasgow in 2000 I think it was. Dickinson went on a ten minute rant about some journalist, trying to whip the crowd up against him. Gist of the story...said journo went on tour with them, they bought him beer, he gave them a bad review. So what, who cares. Left a very bad taste in my mouth, always been disappointed with them live as well. Wish I'd seen them much earlier.

Exactly this!

But then the band takes the financial penalty and not the bar owner that booked them. And if the punters do like the band...they still don't get paid.

I've got both and would say there is a lot of difference between the two. Caveat - I'm still only a few weeks into the Fretboard Accelerator. But it is very, very focused on a that single topic. There is a little bit of crossover from Module 2 in the Practice Accelerator as the topics are similar, but it certainly expands much further on that. Really enjoying the Fretboard one but it does need a lot of dedicated time every that I just don't have right now. It's also quite repetitive - you can see what's coming up in each module, but think the concept is to bake these ideas in.

Luke McIntosh Level Up Your Ear Course

Yeah I treated myself to it a few weeks back for my birthday. Still on week 3, enjoying it. My vocal chords are getting an unexpected workout! -
My uncle is a drummer and lives in a tiny wee upper flat. He built a shed and fully sound-proofed it, has his kit in there and you can barely hear anything standing outside it. Not ideal in winter though, and probably not an option for the piano!

This has always been one of my favourites. The old fella at the start always stuck with me. Plus, Johnny Marr, can't go wrong.

Hey, thanks! I've been to Whighams a fair bit, a couple of my pals play there. It's the excellent players going up that put the fear in me! 😂 I think Stramash does a jam night as well now, but I've not been.
