  1. as Marge Simpson says, the teacher only needs to be one class ahead of the student. jokes apart, a strong fundation in harmony seems to me a must. a deep understanding of ergonomy and postural health to avoid injuries should be important also. reading is not a skill a teacher should master, but be able to read and to explain a score is. in the personal aspect, be patient, a good listener, good organized (and by that I mean to write down all the homework you assign to your students), think ahead and plan what are you going to teach next to make him/her a better player.
  2. if you rest your forearm on the body, most likely you have your wrist in a 90º angle or near, which compress all your tendons which can cause tendinitis and carpal tunnel syndromme in the long term or in short term sometimes. so best advice, start with a good teacher
  3. I've had to play it too and always went to the three finger technique, never used in another tune, but I think it's the way to do it without stressing your hand

  13. With this tune I am finally up to date. this is the last one remaing to publish. a Rita Coolidge's song: I'LL BE YOUR BABY TONIGHT. a quite simple song but with some interesting fills like the one in bar 81. very good to practice reading shuffle VIDEO: https://youtu.be/L8xEj0UCNBY SCORE: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1VmhuTeeJ2WEVogh1mudVlF__V9bcceJY/view?usp=drive_link
  14. today a Bette MIDDLER's song: ONE FINE DAY VIDEO: https://youtu.be/1HO-v9W7yXI SCORE: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1YLfdr9Q2pWQfhf7B__HcXxiV0qLD25bz/view?usp=drive_link
  15. Today we have a novelty and that is that Lee plays twice the same song in the same video. The first time he missed a couple of spots and I guess that would take his dream away so he repeated the take. The song is one from Carole King that he played a long ago and in these two versions he changes the bass line quite a lot from the first one. the song is ONLY LOVE IS REAL and you can find here the two transcriptions. 16. Today we are back to James Taylor. Lee plays again DON'T LET ME BE LONELY TONIGHT. This time he plays quite a different version from the first one, but the spirit of the song remains intact. VIDEO: https://youtu.be/PWAqA_V7aBk SCORE: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1v0nwkyerxfLwtZDe3jbXffAXoqUaA0o0/view?usp=drive_link
  17. Another Jacson Browne's song: THE FUSE. This transcription is a little long but plenty of interesting things in there. you can see as Lee plays 5ths altogether and he kind of gets the sound of a 5 string bass. there is a phrase that sounds as he was playing a fretless thanks to the slides he uses. and plenty of fills worth studying. VIDEO: https://youtu.be/PVrIr8k6Qbk SCORE: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Kg-PKNc8l-hTgv4a2EPNWUdEJibg0UWg/view?usp=drive_link
  18. Another Jackson Browne's song: LOVE NEEDS A HEART. A slow mid tempo to calmly practice reading. VIDEO: https://youtu.be/sDOmA7iFRq0 SCORE: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ApYU-fHe4VNs2Ox9ME5_XNCUNt2gkeba/view?usp=drive_link
  19. Today a Jackson Browne's tune: RUNNING ON EMPTY. It is a long transcription, with lots of different parts. For those who already have some level reading, this can be a good challenge. VIDEO: https://youtu.be/_7_G3m4adB0 SCORE: https://drive.google.com/file/d/12LlBT3Zu-8hUkp9Pxdl-jCKnUcpbt1XU/view?usp=drive_link
  20. In this video Leland plays a song he already played three years ago: Rita Coolidge's RUNNING ON EMPTY. in this ocasion he plays a totally diferent line. if you look in the archives and compare the two versions you'll see what I mean. nevertheless, the spirit of the song is kept perfectly and he places his fills almost in the same exact spots. is one of those few times when two diferent bass line fit perfectly in the same song and doesn't change it. VIDEO: https://youtu.be/_7_G3m4adB0 SCORE: https://drive.google.com/file/d/12LlBT3Zu-8hUkp9Pxdl-jCKnUcpbt1XU/view?usp=drive_link

  22. the last one of the songs from Linda Ronstadt. this is a good tune to practice the middle register of the instrument. please notice the fifths that Lee plays because sometimes it makes the illusion that he is playing a 5 string bass. VIDEO: https://youtu.be/wE4IYUnTVPM SCORE: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1KVeuf5Qgu3_XwJy8BJnMTVL6X7FlhaBQ/view?usp=drive_link

  24. Second song from Linda Ronstadt: SAIL AWAY. In this line we can find lots of fills in a classic rock style. Very much recommended the study of this particular line. VIDEO: https://youtu.be/_cOVLAUdU8k SCORE: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1AlCQ3qBssVFMNSXhMwPULhN1k8xtqayc/view?usp=drive_link
  25. These are the first exercices for a method I am currently developing. The point here is to tap the CLAVE with your foot and play the notes with your bass. These seem pretty basic, but don't be fooled. Never go for the next one until you feel really comfortable playing the exercise you are working and can feel naturally all the beats of the two bars. specially the downbeats
