  1. I have 2 tracks to learn for a recording session coming up for a drummer mate of mine. He wants to record Steely Dan's 'Reeling In The Years' and 'Amos Moses' a la SAHB. Bass part for each is fun, with a few little bits on RITY to keep me on my toes - I've been listening to this ever since it was released but only ever noticed some of the little flourishes and changes this last week over headphones. I'd say the hard part for each will be the vocal But, as a 'nodder' my neck aches after playing along to 'Amos Moses' 😀 - I mean, you just can't not, can you.
  2. I think you should call it a Stinco, personally.
  3. 👏 Well played, indeed.
  4. Chip p!ssing alert.... I don't get his thread. I get factually incorrect. But here we are - 14 pages in yet hardly any of the examples are factually incorrect. Mostly it is nit picking over words that are figurative or metaphorical. Song lyrics do this. Kind of like poetry. If all songs ever said was literal it would be like listening to Janet and John books to music. Or Motorhead. 😉 OK, carry on.
  5. Hoist with your own petard there? 😁
  6. 'Songs in which I enjoy the bassline but not the actual song'. That might cover it.
  7. I'm a big fan of Nik Kershaw. Saw him do a one man show at Union Chapel, up London way, very talented guy. Funny, too, and a great raconteur. Great touch on the guitar. I understand Lady Gaga can actually sing and play instruments when she chooses.
  8. When I started trying 5 string basses I kissed an awful lot of frogs but slowly edged towards what I required. I wanted a 5 string, lightweight, narrow necked Precision bass, preferably in black with a maple neck. Fender didn't make one. I ended up getting one made via the Maruszczyk custom shop. It obviously isn't a complete custom job but as I wanted a 'standard' Precision-shaped bass this made sense. For pretty much all the aspects of the bass you are given choices so you end up with a bass that is tailored to your requirements - but of course within the available parameters. It was good enough for me and I have an instrument I couldn't be more pleased with. And I don't think it was anywhere near as expensive as a full custom job.
  9. Looks like a messed up Junior Jet single pickup model with shonky binding effect paint and equally shonky tug bar. I'd pay £120 for it, maybe less.
  10. Looks nice, too heavy for me. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Westone-Thunder-2-Bass-Guitar/333649465672?hash=item4daf0ed148%3Ag%3AN50AAOSw5i9fBw-S&LH_ItemCondition=3000
  11. Possibly a blues filter? A lot of folks would pay good money to have one of those installed.
  12. Maybe it is a FB thing, not seeing embedded vids unless you are on FB? I don't really know. I hate the thing, personally, but it is the medium the guitarist prefers so I flow along with it.
  13. Double cutaway perfection. Anyone who wants the Precision bass sound but not the P bass look should hoover this up. As long as you have a strong back.
  14. Here it is, in fact. Evil. Complete with a couple of fluffs from me
  15. Indecision bass?
  16. I thought because he'd trimmed round the end a bit. Headless sounds too painful.
  17. Circumcision bass?
  18. Yes, we play 'Evil'. Great tune. I always ask if anyone in the 'audience' has heard of a band called Cactus and to my astonishment one time someone said 'yes'.
  19. Actually my blues band had a crafty little party gig on Saturday. Open air in a small wood, 20 people, nearest house was a mile away. Bit breezy, mind. Guitarist stuck his iPad in front of us and it came out OK, surprisingly. New pa coped admirably outside, bass, vocal and kick going through, not that we were hugely loud but it was pretty focussed. Bit of 'no frills' slide
  20. Oh yes. Loved my old Scavenger. My back still aches at the memory of it, though.
  21. So many! and largely under £300, too. Of those I have tried and already mentioned, Yamaha BBs for sure. I would add Peavey Fury and Foundation for P bass and Jazz bass duties respectively. Westone Thunder 1A for P bass (if only they were lighter!). Various Aria Pro II and other assorted Matsumoku stuff.
  22. I was getting it with AVG free - I managed to stop notifications in my settings and that has stopped the pop-up.
  23. It is. I couldn't believe my eyes the first time I drove up there. Or, indeed, walked inside.
  24. Had a first rehearsal with my blues/rock trio last week. Drummer is a farmer and has a wonderful old C12 thatched barn on site. Mahoosive space, 30ft ceilings etc. Shame we didn't record it as the guitarist seemed to have 3 months of lockdown angst pouring out of his fingertips So nice to be making music again.
  25. Yikes! Didn't hear about that. Nasty. Thanks.
