  1. Fabulous basses. If only they were lighter! 😥 I went to a lot of time, effort and expense to get a BB5000 imported from Japan. Was it better than the BB425 I owned? yes. Was it a grand better? No. And I actually preferred the tone of the 425. Why can't they make an 8lb one!
  2. From the sublime to the ridiculous.... my new Harley Benton Shorty Precision. Mi gusto mucho. Not keen on the white scratchplate so I attacked it with a Sharpie
  3. I would keep both. But if you really do need to get shot of one I voted for the Bass Collection to go. You'll never find another Camel bass. But which one makes you smile the most when you pick it up?
  4. When I was in my mid-teens I taught myself to play guitar by playing along to early Status Quo. Who needs more than 3 chords, right? So when, in my mid 40s, I decided to start playing bass I did the same. I picked up my pick and hammered out root notes on my Peavey Milestone. To be honest nothing much has changed since then apart from the bass
  5. Under the new Gov. guidelines it is only permitted to play the banjo on a Thursday, so he was obvs hoping to sneak under the wire should there be photographic evidence.
  6. One teeeeny niggle, slightly neck heavy. Non-slip strap sorts that out. @Rumple - I will have a search, thank you.
  7. Ah, I see. Here you go, in an assortment of locations.
  8. Tonight we were supposed to be headlining Sax Music Fest so we cobbled together this 'lockdown' video (well, keyboard player Ben did). Vocal is live, the rest is mimed (obvs).
  9. Well, just at the moment it looks exactly like a Harley Benton shorty so I'll leave you to close your eyes and imagine... 😁 Might do something with the pickguard. I love black basses with either no pickguard or a black one. I'll do pics if that happens
  10. Just put my favoured TI Flats on it. Golly Gosh. I'd sell all my expensive basses except I haven't got any.
  11. Another new member of the HB PB Shorty Society - bought it on Tuesday and it arrived a short while ago. Took it out of the box, tuned it up. Hey Presto - nothing else needs doing. Absolutely nothing. Set up is to my liking. Fit and finish is extremely good. The maple in the headstock even has a little speckle running through it. Sounds like a Precision bass. Possibly not as much character in the tone as my more expensive P basses but it absolutely does the job. 3.2kg/7lbs. 2x allen keys for truss rod and bridge and a cheap lead. £80 and, with the Powerbank I also bought, free shipping. I am flabberghasted, frankly. £80. I *may* stick a better pickup in it. I have a 62 Custom one kicking about. I *may* get a black pickguard made as I am not keen on white ones. Then again, I may just leave it be. I mean, £80 ffs.
  12. I had one. They are heavy with wide flattish necks. Or, at least, on mine. Beautifully made but the perspex bridge was a bit of a weak point. I also found the stock pups to be a bit thin sounding, I must say.
  13. Just done the same. Damn you and your silly ideas 😁
  14. That his guitar playing was superlative is pretty much a given. But for me half the pleasure of listening to him was his voice. He really seemed to have sadness oozing out of every pore when playing and singing.
  15. Just dropped straight in.
  16. Just found the correspondence - DCB G3.
  17. And when the day comes when you are so sick of everyone pointing and laughing at you that it tips you over the edge you have a handy attachment point for the noose. Genius.
  18. Never mind the straps, I'm diggin' the tash. I have one very similar.
  19. Sorry to hear, Stew. Here's hoping you can get your health settled quickly, as much as it can be.
  20. I have 2 tracks to learn for a recording session coming up for a drummer mate of mine. He wants to record Steely Dan's 'Reeling In The Years' and 'Amos Moses' a la SAHB. Bass part for each is fun, with a few little bits on RITY to keep me on my toes - I've been listening to this ever since it was released but only ever noticed some of the little flourishes and changes this last week over headphones. I'd say the hard part for each will be the vocal But, as a 'nodder' my neck aches after playing along to 'Amos Moses' 😀 - I mean, you just can't not, can you.
  21. I think you should call it a Stinco, personally.
  22. 👏 Well played, indeed.
  23. Chip p!ssing alert.... I don't get his thread. I get factually incorrect. But here we are - 14 pages in yet hardly any of the examples are factually incorrect. Mostly it is nit picking over words that are figurative or metaphorical. Song lyrics do this. Kind of like poetry. If all songs ever said was literal it would be like listening to Janet and John books to music. Or Motorhead. 😉 OK, carry on.
  24. Hoist with your own petard there? 😁
