  1. Email Alex, tell him what you want from a cab and he will make the best recommendation as no-one understands the nuances of each cab like he does.
  2. Silly money - cashing in on the zeitgeist that short scales seem to be currently enjoying. I had one for a while, a '79 I believe. I've also had a Squier Vista Series Musicmaster and a Squier VM Mustang. The two Squiers blew the Fender out of the water completely in every respect. I had the Musicmaster modded to have a Wizard Trad pickup put in it, which improved the tone no end. But it was still heavy and clunky. I bought it pretty cheap so it didn't matter.
  3. I did it to a MM Sterling 5. I got our very own @Andyjr1515 to remove all the active gubbins, add a P pickup near the sweet spot and then some switchery trickery. Sounded v. nice.
  4. A couple of big regrets. One was a Squier Silver Series Precision. I lost track of that. But the real biggie was an early 70s Yamaha SB-35. Really rare and unusual bass. Medium scale, lightweight and cool as flip with tons of mojo including a fag burn on the headstock. The tone was amazing, it sang beautifully. I bought a couple of 5 string guitars and decided 'I have moved on to 5 string basses so will sell all my 4 string basses'. Just a few months later I joined a blues rock trio and this would have been SOOOOOOO good for this band. I have contacted the guy I sold it to and he has no plans to move it on but has registered my interest. Hey ho.
  5. Thanks for that. Not for me, I should add, but I thought it looked interestig.
  6. Looks nice. A reported back bow. Anyone know anything about them? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1980s-Tokai-Original-Series-Electric-Bass-MIJ-Japan-White/324191099302?hash=item4b7b4b99a6:g:CDcAAOSwSTFe3R1d
  7. Probably good for playing ghost notes.
  8. I expect ESP will make a copy of one soon.
  9. Another Transferwise/Eurosender endorsee here.
  10. Used to play this version of Mercy in my covers band. Always well received. The bass (and most likely all the band) is probably a prop for the video. It was sung by a white guy named Jon Allen!
  11. Keep it near a sunny window. That'll do it. Vintage tint always look false to me, like someone rubbed turmeric over it.
  12. I could do a whole thread on Bruce Springsteen covers as I think he writes nice tunes but not so keen on the way he performs them. This one, especially. Compare and contrast
  13. 'Hush' has been covered a lot. original Then Deep Purple: Then Kula Shaker: Then Gotthard: 'Better' is subjective but I like them in this order
  14. I prefer this cover: To the original:
  15. Could you get a replacement pickup cover that didn't have holes for the pole pieces?
  16. I once had a Sterling By Music Man SB14. Lighter, smaller body than a Ray, slimmer neck at the nut although still fairly deep back to front. It was a Good Bass.
  17. Ta. And thank heavens, a weeny bit too heavy. I have totally no need of another bass but for that money it would be difficult to ignore. Edit - I had one of these for a while. I also moved Heaven and Earth for a BB5000. I preferred the 414. Yes, the 5000 was better but it wasn't £1200 better. I'd say GLWYS but you won't need it at that price.
  18. Russ, my man - are you able to weigh this at all?
  19. Great band. What a rhythm section! Lots of happy memories listening to Sweet - loved the idea of 'the heavy side'. Great 'heavy rock' performance here, live in '74
  20. Following links on YouTube I stumbled upon this new blues/rock guitarist - Eric Johanson. Strong album 'Burn It Down' - title track is a winner, as are several others.
  21. Another 'wash hands before playing but never wipe bass afterwards' kind of chap. In fact I think the only time I do clean my basses is when I first get them (if secondhand) and then when I put them up for sale.
  22. It is certainly worth getting in touch with Alex. I had a Supercompact that started to distort just about 3 years after I bought it. He replaced the driver foc once he'd tested it and found it to be faulty.
  23. Yes, this is the one for me, too. I bought one to rationalise my pedals - now just a tuner, this and the wireless - and wasn't keen on the drive straight out of the box. But the clean boost tone print is pretty much exactly what I want. Like it says - play with the gain and the drive level to get the sound you want. Have to say was impressed with the novelty of the tone print bluetooth malarkey. Possibly a bit gimmicky but couldn't be easier and quicker.
  24. Yup, close up of the headstock shows Lyte logo. Re Richtone - £399 was a good price! I guess that is why it isn't there any more.
