Where is it positioned now? My new beau is a 2011 with the button at the back of the heel and, although no neck dive, the body does roll forward - be nice to correct that if possible. Had the briefest of noodles - it needs a proper set up, new strings etc - but it plays beautifully and sounds fantastic. Happy chap

So.... I had a quick look on eBay and there were a couple in my price range. One of them just 5 miles up the road. When asked the weight, he came back with 3.5kg. You can probably guess the rest 😂

Bipolar bears - what a great band name! -
I've taken the plunge and just ordered the RCF Art- 732, selling off all my old stuff. Here goes!

Bought a bridge from Mike in the simplest of transactions. Promptly posted, arrived beautifully wrapped. Thank you, sir.

Damnation! Yesterday morning I had no particular interest other than curiosity, today it's like an itch I can't scratch! Anyone got an 8lb Gibson Thunderbird they want to sell? 😍
-
Might be safer to wait until a bass bash - they won't be for sale then
-
None of this is helping my 'curiosity' in the least

Bought this new 4 years ago, my 'go-to' gig head but I'm switching to FRFR. Not much to say, really, other than this is a powerful little amp rated to 800W (whatever that means :)) but coasting through my old BF Supercompact and/or Two10 to keep pace with a loud rock band. Unusual controls that are very intuitive. Light as a feather and very small. Comes with the gig bag and odd little clicky mains lead. In very good nick. £320 collected from South Benfleet in Essex, postage to mainland UK would be approx £15 on top.

.... with LEDs. Binky Bling.

How about the short scale Ray, @casapete Pete? I have a similar classification in my head, nominally: under 8lbs is light, 8-9lbs medium but ok, over 9lbs heavy (and therefore ruled out). But it seems I have allowed it to become more of a guideline than a rule as my last two bass purchases have been over 9lbs although to qualify that neither are intended for prolonged use.

8-9lbs is fine for me so this is looking interesting....

Moving on my Squier VM Mustang as I find I am favouring my recently put together Frankenstein for Fender flavours at the moment. It is REALLY nice but seems a shame not to use it so off it goes as part of my spring clean. These aren't that common, they weren't made for very long, but they are lovely little things. It is black with a maple neck, short scale, I put a BWB scratchplate on it and a tug bar in approx the right spot. When I acquired it a previous owner had already put a cheeky Fender headstock decal and F neck plate on it - both of which I decided to keep - and also upgraded the pickup to a Nordstrand NM4. Have to say you'd be hard pushed to tell it apart from a Fender apart from the weight - which is 3.5kg/a whisker over 7.5 lbs. Back of the headstock is original and the serial number shows it to be a Cort made in 2011 and I would rate its condition as 9/10. This one has the string through bridge - currently strung with TI jazz flats. The neck is Jazz width, 38mm at the nut, with 18mm spacing at the bridge - neck is lovely, set up for my preference at 12th fret is approx 2.5mm on the E and 2mm on the G. Neck has a very slight relief but the truss rod is fine if you need to adjust that. Will come in a tatty but serviceable guitar hard case - I think it is for a Gibbo 335 shape but fits the Mustang a treat. Looking for just £250 collected from South Benfleet in Essex. Could courier this to mainland UK for £20, more exotic destinations would need a quote. My only trade at the moment would be for a Barefaced Supermidget, steel grill, with cash your way, or perhaps a lightweight Gibson Thunderbird with cash

Rationalising my kit, this is now surplus to requirements. The infamous tolex join at the back has VERY SLIGHTLY started to lift but otherwise in pretty much perfect nick. Comes with the BF padded cover. Asking £275 collected from South Benfleet in Essex. Might be able to courier this so will look into it. Need to take pics but, well, it looks like one of these. Edit pics now added. Would be keen to trade for a Supermidget, steel grill, plus cash your way. Or, perhaps, a lighter weight Gibson Thunderbird Edit - Now on hold....

This really surprises me! In a good way. I'd assumed that the Gibsons would be heavier. Interesting! Do lightweight tuers go any way towards curing neck dive?
-
I'm mildly curious about Thunderbird basses - one would fit in with my blues/rock band rather nicely - but I've always believed them to be heavy old things. But are they? Did/do they vary much? What about any of the Epiphones and MIJ knockoffs - any lightweights (sub-9lbs) amongst them? Be exceedingly grateful if anyone can give a kind of overview.
-
Very elegant solution Mr Teebs.
-
Thanks for that. It is a late 70s MIJ one without a name but pretty much exactly like a real one. I quite like the generic Thomann ABS one - they come out slightly lighter in weight, which can only help. https://www.thomann.de/gb/thomann_ebasscase.htm According to the dimensions on the listing it should fit - if the neck is a bit wobbly I can live with that.
-
Some sort of folding hinged stubby leg that was shallower than the caster when folded but sticks out further when unfolded? A bit like the bottom of a Black and Decker workmate.
-
Utterly brilliant. That headstock/body combo looks better with either parent. Thinking outside the box!
-
I had a quick measure up and the Thomann cheapie ABS one will fit, too.
