I would have loved to do this, I think it is such a great song. Tried it in a early band but the drummer didn't have the right touch. In my recently defunct covers band the drummer, who does, and I were pushing to do it but the guitarist ('band leader') said much the same - overplayed in the 80s - and steadfastly refused, even though we had been asked to play it several times. Shame.

Wondering which hard cases out there will fit a 4001/3 shaped Rick? My faker came with a modified Epiphone Thunderbird case which does the job but is untidy inside and a bit cumbersome. If I keep said faker, and I believe I will, I may well treat it to something better. I don't want to pay ransom money for the proper Rick case, though. I've seen a pic of one nestled in the larger 'teardrop' Hiscox case, but does it fit inside the regular one? Or how about those generic rectangular, non-fitted jobs such as the Thomann/Gear4music etc? I know I could measure it myself but looking for real life experiences Muchas gracias

Anyone know how much these weigh?

Shakatak at the Maritime Room , Cliff's Pavilion, Westcliff. Seen them oodles of times and unfortunately this was probably their worst performance. Sound balance was bad, George looked unwell and his timing was out as if everything was a bit fast for him. Usually he is SO on the money. Jill was singing a bit flat (er). Still, some tunes were brilliant. Brazilian Dawn, my favourite, was amazing.

I'll wager that is one of the few double necks I could wear without knackering my back. Odd combo, though - long scale and short scale?

I might be. I now go through the pa for the 2 bands I'm in so am considering changing my cab/head rig for one of these as it is only really for rehearsals and the 'odd' gig when i don't go through pa. The difference in cost is fairly significant - £620 vs £400. But then you get what you pay for....

The 732 being better for bass, I assume?

I'm reading all this with interest, I must say, if not with understanding Regarding the RCF range, apart from cost what is the difference between the Art 712-A Mk IV and the Art 732-A MkIV?

I find the real ones are a PITA to stretch over the strap buttons and I often ended up pulling the skin under my fingernail away. I switched to the 'made for guitar' ones as they have a bigger hole and are much easier to get on yet still stay on firmly. Never had an issue with longevity, been using them for 4-5 years.

I don't feel demoralised by them because I don't watch them. I'm not overly concerned about what other bass players are doing, only with what I am doing. When I learn a new song I copy what I can hear or a version of it then reproduce it in the band, as which point it may evolve into something different. But watching videos of other players doing stuff isn't remotely of interest to me unless I am trying to work out a tricky bit and some one has done it clearly in a video. Like absolutely everything in Life - the world is full of people better looking, cleverer, better bassists, more money than any of us so why worry about how you measure up?

Do you cut your strings? Why or why not?

Early Squier JV P's - anyone know the specifications?
Paul S replied to musicbassman's topic in General Discussion
No-one here is arguing. You said in your experience the JV basses are nothing special, my experience is different. The marketplace sets the cost. If you don't want to pay £1000 for a Fender logo JV Squier then there are plenty of folk who do. Not a problem. I had 2 JV Precisions - I kept the second, slightly later but not Fender logo, because I prefered the colour (black, rather than tobacco-burst), the weight(8lbs rather than 9lbs) and the tone (a little edgier). It is not as 'collectable' or worth as much but I prefer it. -

I see two factors at work. Collectability and worth. The Fender logo ones were only a small run and so collectable. Even if they were shite, the fact that there aren't many of them would make them collectable. But, for me, the Fender logo one I owned was better than any other Precision I have tried, including a few USA ones. Add the 'rare and collectable' factor in and that makes £1000 a pretty decent buy. What they cost at the start is irrelevant as far as I can see. -

My experience differs. I had a F logo one - the one for sale here at the moment, as it happens, and still own a slightly later one. They are the best and second best Precision basses I have had through my hands - which I am afraid to report is quite a few. -

I might have more use for a wheelbarrow made from an upright bass, but watch this with interest...
