  1. Maths isn't a strong subject for me but I am sure that is still 4 hours?
  2. Most of the ggis I have done recently they expect 2x 1hr. Last night's gig was The Bull, in Colchester and they like 9:30pm to 12:30am covered. It was a poor turnout, mind you, so we finished a little early. Then the bloody A12 was closed south at Mark's Tey with a diversion along the A120 to Braintree. 20 minutes out of my way. 25 mins if you add the 5 mins waiting at temporary lights at roadworks along the A131, waiting for no one to come the the way.
  3. Nicely put, sir - a beautifully balanced and rational post. So the meds are working, Baz?
  4. Selling my Musicman Sterling 5. This is one of the expensive and hard to track down USA models and an utterly fab thing it is too. Smaller bodied and lighter than a Stingray with a narrower neck, which was the appeal for me as lightweight narrow string spacing 5ers are few and far between. Black with BWB scratchplate and a maple neck. Neck has a natural finish and is as smooth a silk. Serial number dates this to 2010 and I think I have had it for 4 years, maybe 5, mainly as a back-up bass. Scratchplate shows marks from wear but the body is surprisingly free of dings or marks - just one slight ding near the input jack. Very little else, hardly any buckle rash, surface scuffs or swirls. The electrics are active with a 3 band eq and a 3-way switching on the twin coil humbucker that give series/parallel/phantom coil to avoid hum. Not entirely sure of the technicalities but they each have a different voice. Really punchy Musicman tone. Stats - weighs just 3.8kg. String spacing at the bridge is 17.5mm according to my ruler, shaky hands and poor eyesight. 43mm across the nut. Action at the 12th fret is roughly 3mm on the B string and 2mm on the G. Currently strung with whatever roundwounds it came with - I'd take a wild guess at some type of EBMM string - which, as primarily a flats kind of guy, to my ears still sound nice and zingy. It comes with the original fitted SKB hard case with Musicman embossed on the front. Full disclosure, the inside smells a bit like a charity shop - it came like it and several attempts to deodorise with Febreeze haven't got rid. Just to manage expectation when opening the case 😁 I had modded this to take, initially, an additional split coil P pickup* and, subsequently, just the P pickup. To sell it I have had it returned to stock with everything put back in place. The only evidence is under the scratchplate where the routing for the P pickup was undertaken (by our very own Andyjr1515, so beautifully neat not butchered ) I am selling it as all my 5 string duties are shouldered exclusively by my Maroos-chick Jake 5 meaning that this has just sat in the case as back up, unplayed. It occured to me that I may as well buy a cheaper 5 string as back up to leave in the case unplayed and release some funds to fuel more frivolous schemes. 😂 I am asking £1000 for this, firm, collected from South Benfleet on the Essex Riviera. I will courier this as the case is rock solid, UK mainland and to Europe via Eurosender. No idea how much but it will be researched and charged at cost. Not interested in any trades at the moment, thanks. *I have the 5 string Delano PC 5AL/M2 pickup (and also the scratch plate) available, should anyone want to try this mod, at a friendly discount if all bought together .
  5. Yup. See, you have contradicted yourself immediately. You say you 'respect anyone's decision' and then in the next paragraph have been disrespectful about people not doing what you do. I play in a blues rock trio. A decent chunk of the material are covers of stuff written in the 20s and 30s with another wave in the 60s. Successive generations have put their own spin on the songs - including us.
  6. Speaking of Thunderbirds, has anyone owned/played the short scale model? Wondering what they are like.
  7. Yes, seems to be according to my luggage scales. I took off the pickup cover thinking that might reduce the weight but that weighs next to nothing! Might possibly change the tuners for Hipshots but, realistically, that won't make much difference as it will still be nearer to 10lbs than 9bs. I'll just see how I get on with it but I have to admit to being a little in love so am prepared to be more forgiving and perhaps put up with an aching back next day - I am 'so' looking forward to playing it in the context of my band.
  8. He certainly did play the cricket bat in the videos. Yes, this was one of the re-scheduled shows after being cancelled first time around. Actually to say I wished I hadn't seen it was harsh as, at times, it was brilliant. Kurt's voice was probably the worst aspect - never strong it hasn't improved with age. But some surprise highs. 'Woman In Chains' was very good, the girl singing did a decent job and it isn't her fault she isn't Oleta Adams. But she actually sang 'Badman's Song better than Oleta, IMO - suited her voice.
  9. I saw them around the same time and they were *unbelievable* live. Truly awesome. Roland's voice was immense and Curt's wasn't that thin. Saw them the year before last and wished I hadn't. 🙁
  10. Fab. Probably in my top 10 all time fave albums. Set up to record - thanks for the heads up!
  11. A slight aside but at the Grammy Awards last year when Black Sabbath were award Lifetime Achievement awards, Rival Sons did a pretty damned good mash up of War Pigs and Paranoid.
  12. Took off the pickup cover just now and couldn't find any date clues on the pickup or in the cavity. But I have to say I'm bonding with this pretty quickly - what a lovely thing. Sounds amazing and, for the way I play, much easier without the pickup cover. When I hand it over to my guy I'll get him to make a bezel out of an old scratchplate I have kicking around to fill in the gaps
  13. Thanks for the info, John. I'll have a look under the pups when I get a chance. It needs a proper clean and set up - there is a slight bow in the neck that needs sorting plus intonation, all of which I will leave in the hands of the guy who sorts my basses out for a proper job. New set of TI flats and we'll be in business I assume the bridge pickup cover comes off easily enough as it isn't there in most pics. Not ever having played a Ric (had a Jolana once but that didn't sound like one) I have to say that I find the tone really very exciting. Especially when both pups are engaged and very especially playing around the 7th fret. Like nothing I have owned or played before. Bloody heavy, though! - this is a 10lb-er. 😲
  14. That is exactly the way I look on it, except written far more eloquently
  15. Yes. Buy shorter allen key height adjustment screws so that they disappear inside the saddles rather than poke out the top.
  16. I bought this on eBay - to my astonishment the seller accepted an offer from me that was below my ceiling price for a Faker - and it arrived just this afternoon. To my untrained eye it looks and sounds very much like a Rickenbacker. Certainly heavy enough! That, if anything, will be the deal breaker for me but I am going to give it a go because I think we are going to get on famously. So - no brand name on the truss rod cover or identifying marks that I can see externally. What is this likely to be - one of Cushin Gakki ones? Whatever it is I am going to call it my Sprackenbacker that being close enough to my name to make me smile every time I say it.
  17. Well done that man! The zip on mine is about to go
  18. Something that utilises its weight would make sense. A garden parasol base, perhaps, or for the local police to bosh down doors when carrying out dawn raids.
  19. My blues rock trio are playing at the Bull in Colchester this Friday - first time there. Why not treat 'The Wife' to a romantic night of wailing guitar solos?!
  20. I still think a toilet seat would be nice.
  21. I find myself in something of a dichotomy over this. I guess I am in a fortunate position in that I don't have to worry about what I spend on gear - generally speaking, if I want something I will buy it. But I am also a dyed in the wool tightwad and do sometimes reflect upon the cost of stuff. I'll spend good money on something if I think it is worth it but not for the sake of it. I wanted a decent lightweight 5 string Precision bass and found that my best realistic chance of one was to get a Maruszczyk Jake 5 made to my specs which, at £1500, is the most I have paid for a bass. I believe that is fantastic value as it is a corker. But I also have a MM Sterling 5 that sits in the case as backup, modded so that it sounds just like the Jake. It occured to me that this was a lot of bass hanging around doing nothing so after tussling with my inner tightwad over this for a few years I have now bought a cheaper 5 string that can sit in its case as my 'get out of jail free' bass and am currently getting the Sterling 5 put back to stock to sell it. That should release a few hundred pounds back into my account. No doubt to fuel more spuriously necessary purchases.
  22. Any issues at all with the bridge and headstock clamp?
  23. Russ bought my old Hondo II body - popped round and did a cheeky PayPal in my hallway. He didn't need help carrying it to the car, either. Perfect!
  24. Well, I managed to get one on eBay for slightly below my ceiling price, much to my surprise. Unbranded but it sounds 'right' - 70s, MIJ, pics look like 'all the others'. Could be a complete lemon, of course Should be arriving this week so I'll find out soon enough.
  25. Happy memories of bouncing up and down to Zoom Club back in the day, saw them a number of times early-mid 70s. To exit on your own terms is great, I think.
