Excited that my lot (Toredown) are a part of this night - 3 great bands! Something to do on a Thursday night in February!!
-
It is all very individual. I play with a pick for 90% of the time and use these Jim Dunlop jobbies. Can't get on with those big triangles.

An odd little bass quest, and opinions needed from BC
Paul S replied to TRBboy's topic in Bass Guitars
Love the look of these and often wondered what they are like. How much does it weigh, do you know? I'd say - it's your bass, do what you fancy. Personally I like black with no pickguard, but that's me. When the bug bites deeper for DC shorties, there's a couple of other basses that might appeal. There was a shorty Antoria LP DC that was made for a while, came in TV yellow to start with. They were only about £350 new and, as and twhen they pop up second hand, around £250. If you have a good back the Hondo H1015 was medium scale, sometimes with DiMarzio pup. Fabulous necks on these but also the much maligned 3-point bridge that, apparently, on this model had an inclination to bend. Heavy, though. Usually under £200 on eBay, I bought one for under £100 a while back. Another cheap shorty is this Encore, although if I saw one I'd probably fight you for it Got this one for under £100, weighs just 3kg.- 44 replies

You'll be OK, a new keyboard doesn't count.

When the time comes you'll be the first to know, Ben Currently having a Schaller 460 bridge fitted as the pointless bit of 2-point tin was doing my head in. I've never played a proper old EB. Maybe I should.
-
I imagine getting a Wilma outfit in larger sizes might be a problem.
-
At the moment I have a 2021 SG Standard and a 70s Eros EB-3 I'd say the same, I usually don't go anywhere near a bridge pickup, except I like to dial in a bit of the neck pickup to round it off a bit. But maybe that is because of the pickups - what would any of you shorty Gibson aficionados say was the difference between the early EB-3s and SG in terms of tone?

I blame the NHS. Discharging folk before their medication has stabilised.

Guarantee a drunk will still ask for Wonderwall.

So, you had an outer body experience during a gig!😲 Spooky

The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!
Paul S replied to Baloney Balderdash's topic in Bass Guitars
That's the jobbies! I was trying to remember. NM4. I had a set fitted to one of the VM Mustangs and it was a massive improvement over stock. -
That's never been a good enough reason to fail in this household, fella.

Not sure, I don't have one any more to check. But I'd probably agree with him, one reason I have never hung on to one. -
Marvellous. Onwards to the second hurdle!
-
Got more chance of getting some improved intonation on my premolars than I have with this 70s 2 point bridge, that's for sure.
-
Nope. Last week, so last year. But, for full disclosure - I am handing it over to someone else to fit and have yet to pay him...
-
Hmm. Already bnought it. It is to replace an old '70s MIJ 2 point bridge which is, arguably, intrinsically defective.
-
How about having a new bridge fitted - does that count?
-
My view - It's supposed to be fun, if it isn't fun, stop. Only you know how you feel. And, yeah, sell all your gear. If you want to start again, get some more gear.

I spent quite a lot with them at one point. They do(did?) a rewards scheme (still there?) and my account was a platinum one, which meant reasonable discounts on some items. Always had good service, even when it went wrong (which wasn't often).

The Continuing Story of Problem Bandmates.
Paul S replied to Chienmortbb's topic in General Discussion
One of my old bands did a 'good thing'. 3 of the 4 of us sang (not me) and they would have vocal rehearsals to get the harmonies spot on. It was easy to do round someone's house, rather than eating into paid rehearsal room time, and it meant I didn't have to hang around counting my toes waiting for them to finish. Maybe this would help with your guy, if it is isolated it might be more noticeable? -
I don't know if the technology has moved on but some years ago now I bought a pair of KZ AS10s and they are still brilliant. What I ended up doing was using a pair of old ACS molded earplus for the ear pieces instead of the silicon buds that come with it. I removed the little attenuators and fixed the earphones in place with clear silicon mastic. This gave a perfect fit and improved the bass response exponentially.

Add some spacers to the shelf supports!
