I had one. It was lightweight, had a nice 40mm nut width, neck was amazing. The best thing was the tone coming out of the stock pup - organic woody P bass tone that was like the old Wizard Thumper or similar. Cost me around £200 and was the best bass for the money I have ever had through my hands. It wasn't as nice as my JV Squiers but it wasn't far short. So of course I sold it.

This. On the neck plate.

^ this for me, too. Strangely my first fretless had lines and dots where they would be on a fretted (Squier VM Jazz) but my next was a Westone Thunder 1A with a blank board. Loved that bass!

Nice review, fuelling my GAS nicely

I favour black. Either black bodies, bwb scratchplate and a maple neck and fretboard or the all black stealth look with no scratchplate, ebony board and painted headstock..

Looks like Eurosender will do it.

I had something 'similar' last year. I usually like to know my set backwards and have never depped for anyone before. A drummer I used to be in a band with a while back got in touch on 1st December to see if I could dep for their bass, who had to go to hospital for an op, on 8th. She said it was all regular covers. Then she took a pic of what was their current set list and I had actually only played 4 of them before. Quite a number I had never even heard! One rehearsal with the band. Yikes! Got through it ok and, have to say, I quite enjoyed the experience.

Wouldn't be any good for a female bass player as she'd keep putting it down.

I always take a back up to gigs. I am currently down to just 2 x 5 string basses and I take both to gigs for the bands where I use 5 string basses. They are a Maroose-chick 5 string precision and a fairly heavily modded EBMM Sterling 5 that is now passive with a Delano P pickup in it. For the new blues band I use 4 string basses - I could use the 5s, of course, but, well, you know. I have a choice of 2 x short scale and one long scale so at the moment I tend to take the two short scale. They are a Gibson Les Paul Junior DC that is my current best and favourite and a lightly modded Squier VM Mustang. My fab JV Squier P stays at home in the case, mostly. Been a while since I've had that few basses. Not sure how long it is going to last. Oh, yes, I also have 2 electroacoustic and an EUB but they don't count

Indeed - my 'litmus test' dish whenever I try a new Indian restaurant as hot sweet and sour is a tricky balance of flavours to get right. If they do I'll go back, if not I don't.

You can't see mine because of my waistcoat, or if I tilt my head and the brim of my stetson covers the image. Plus I am usually obscured by my music stand. I think that covers it.

Big air metal, certainly.

Indeed. Without the neck, all those frets and all those strings in the way I can knock out 'Forget Me Nots' just like Freddie on a broom handle!

Mid life crisis I played guitar through my teens into my early 20s then Life got in the way and I stopped. Fast forward 25 years to my mid-40s, decided to take up an instrument again (I stupidly thought it would be cheaper than a sports car) but had in the interim starting hearing music in a different way so I bought a starter bass kit. Played it every day, then once a week, then abandoned it. It sat in the corner for a couple of years before I made the decision to actually do something so I joined a band. Had my first paying gig at 51 That was 11 years ago, been playing regularly since then. I always say this but being a part of a group of people who create (or recreate) music is the best thing and once I started playing bass in a band it felt like the little piece of me that had been missing all those years had fallen back into place. Joined Basschat around the same time and it has cost me small fortune on gear.

Of all things bass related, what are you most embarrassed about?
Paul S replied to Cestrian's topic in General Discussion
That's all I have ever done 😄 I wish I could naturally move around in a way that looks cool. Instead I look like someone just plugged me into the mains, my head starts jerking around oddly and I pull faces. I also hum the bassline as I play it so need to keep well away from any mics until the moment cames for me to utter something into it. -
My new blues trio had a bit of a break. A few weeks ago our guitar player asked Steven Foster from BBC radio Suffolk along to our second gig. To my amazement he came. To my increased amazement he stayed to the end. Straight after he invited us to play a slot at the Ipswich Maritime festival, which was yesterday. A lovely day in a magnificent setting. Sound was great - bands all day 45 mins on, 15 mins change round, all changes done on the fly. Shame all gigs can't be like this! This was our last number, recorded on an iPad held towards the stage My new Gibson LP Junior DC sounded fab on stage through the supplied Ampeg rig and immense out front.

Well, if Warren and I went out of the three of us there would be at least 2 ex-coppers. So probably best not to rule anything out 😄

I don't need or want anything yet a trip there would be fun just for the craic, as we say around here. However my diary is running at capacity, such are the joys of retirement.

To be fair, if you went at night you are unlikely to spend anything.

I had one for a while. it was light - but not quite light enough. It was loud - but not quite loud enough. And I wasn't struck on the mid-focused tone much, either. But I realise that last bit was me
