  1. Well, in my case the comparison was made by how far round the volume knob needed to be turned to give the same loudness in the context of the band at a gig. So I guess my volume knobs have been fooled, too
  2. Clearly the notion of 'Trace Elliot watts' being louder is tongue in cheek and nothing to get grumpy about. Yes, a watt is a watt is a watt. But for absolute certainty they are loud. I know sod all about acoustics and even less about physics but my rears tell me that my Trace Elliot AH-300 is considerably louder than the class D heads I have owned that were 600W plus. Genz-benz Streamliner 600, Markbass Tube800, TC RH750 were all MUCH quieter through the same cab. The only small head I have (and still have) that is as loud (or louder) is the Quilter Bass Block 800. All I can assume from this is the number of watts something is rated at has nothing to do with how loud it goes and there must be other factors at play. But that has something to do with 'science' I guess
  3. And in the southeast corner of Essex I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Leighton Jennings. I trusted him to refret an NS design Bolin 5er that had at some point been defretted and he made a cracking job of it. He is based in Leigh-on-sea. https://www.leightonsguitarshop.com/
  4. After carefully measuring and checking the given measurements I ordered a Gator CW-LPS Deluxe guitar case from Gear4music. It was out of stock but arrived today. It is a *perfect* fit for the Junior DC bass.
  5. Might make your GAS for a voice pitcher a bit lighter....
  6. I currently play with a guitarist in one band who can sight read and in another one who knows very little music theory at all. Seems a strange question and kind of assumes that because someone chooses to play a 6 string instrument they will somehow all have the same amount of music reading ability. Unless I have missed something?
  7. A quick Google finds this, from the Quilter folks It is "safe". Our amps are protected from load faults or opens. However, since this is pushing the amp beyond its normal rating, it is POSSIBLE (although rare) to encounter overcurrent limiting on loud peaks, which sounds like harsh clipping. We haven't heard anyone actually complain however - speaker impedance tends to rise somewhat when pushing the power hard enough to reach this limit. Normally, the amp gently reduces power when pushed too hard for too long. If this peak clipping were to happen anyway, the trick would be to lower the Master by degrees until it clears up, which keeps the peak currents within normal range. Thanks for all this, men. Next step, putting one of my SC up for trade.
  8. But that doesn't take into account the GAS for the Two10....
  9. Thank you both. So, another daft question, what are the exact dangers of running a head that says 4ohm minimum down to 2.67ohm? Clearly something will potentially give but is it the speakers or the head? I should know all this stuff by now!!
  10. Thank you. So perfectly safe! Looks like my way forward....
  11. Amp-wise I use one of two Trace Elliot heads or Quilter Bass Block - all say 4Ohm min..
  12. I hadn't thought of that but it sounds like a plan. If it were the switchable Two10, what would 12Ohm plus 8Ohm do? ( elementary lack of knowledge here, sorry folks...)
  13. I have two BF Supercompacts. I find one is enough for almost every situation I find myself in but occasionally adding the second for the headroom/sheer decadence etc is nice. However, I find myself increasingly interested in how a Two10 would sound as my 'go to' cab. I have a One10 and like it. Rather than buy a Two10 - seems silly to have all those cabs kicking around - I am considering offering up one of the Supercompacts for a trade with a Two10. But the question is - for those extra headroom moments could I pair the Two10 with the remaining Supercompact? I believe I'd need the switchable cab and use it at 12Ohms but they compatible? Or would it be the end of the known universe? Anyone done it? Muchas gracias!
  14. Hah, not EMG at all but were Aguilar DCB G3 soapbars which have a bar magnet so work nicely with a 5. I replaced the EMGs with these. Sounded nice, too - an improvement.
  15. I put some EMG pickups into a Hohner B2V that were a drop in fit - I imagine they are a similar/same size? I can rummage through my emails and try to find which model.
  16. ^This x 100^ Put your 4 string bass(es) away and use the 5 for everything. You'll soon work out little shortcuts to the B string and be hovering around frets 5-7 where before you'd be fretting on the lower frets of the E. You can then make the choice of where to play notes according to what sort of timbre you want . The extra low notes are the bonus, even though they start off being the attraction. The, if you feel you can't get on with your Jack V, sell it to me as I'd like one muchly
  17. Following a recommendation on here I have used Eurosender to ship a bass to Holland and some valuable plants to southern Ireland. The specifically say they will insure musical instruments, they are cheap and - after 2 goes - seem efficient and reliable.
