  1. If you didn't get together every single Monday you could call yourselves the Alternate Monday Club.
  2. I had a message today (thanks Chris!) suggesting I flesh out the detail of the repair as, understandably, folks are going to be nervous spending a grand on something that has a previous fault. Symptoms were: I followed the usual cold-start procedure - switched on the power with the stand-by 'off', left it like that for 5 mins or so then turned 'on' stand-by - this was accompanied by a smell of burning and smoke! Turned off, unplugged, used back up. I took it to Electronic Music Services in Southend who are pretty much the 'go-to' industry standard amp techs in southeast Essex. Below is a scan of their report/invoice, which shows they were pretty thorough. I've used it maybe half a dozen times since then but find the whole thing too heavy to manoeuvre around. Hope this goes some way to instill confidence that this was sorted out correctly by people who know what they are doing.
  3. If only that were true the history of rock n roll would read very differently! 😄
  4. Decided to drop the price on this by £200 to £1000. If you are looking for a JV Precision you are unlikely to find a better one - and this is the Fender logo one, don't forget. Heck, if you are looking for a Precision you had to look hard for a better one, and it would be a lot more!!
  5. Dropped this by £200 to just £1000 as it is sitting here totally redundant. That makes it an absolute bargain in my book.
  6. Can only echo what others have said. My current squeeze is a Mah-roose-chick 5 string Precision that weighs in at 3.6kg and the tone is everything I could possibly want from a Precision bass.
  7. There might be a bit of a latency issue. Best not use Hound dog.
  8. Thanks! The singer was pleased with his one. I like the compact size of the Pedpro, I have to say - cost is much the same or even a bit lower. I imagine standing a mic stand on anything isn't gong to do it any favours!
  9. Does a bluetooth tablet controller count? No, didn't think so.
  10. Before my 'gear-free 2019' kicks in I depped wth a band last night and the singer used a bluetooth controller to page through his sheets. Seemed like a good idea - being a dinosaur I am of course late to any kind of technology party and haven't seen one before. I've only recently started using a tablet. His was the Airturn Pedpro, seemed very compact and efficient. There are other similar devices around. Can anyone who has spent time with one of these devices please share their experience? Reviews/recommendations?
  11. Add these pretty blue lights to your xmas gigs! And the valvey goodness, of course.
  12. To the top for this cheap as chips entry level EUB 5 string!
  13. Nor me. Beaten Google, too. I will continue to browse the market place - I expect my JV Precision and Mesa Boogie prodigy Four:88 head will still be for sale through most of 2019 so I will have to keep bumping the threads
  14. Just read this. I'm in! I'll probably get some strings. I have one of them thar new Boss WL-50 wireless gizmobobs arriving in Jan but as l've paid on pre-order that doesn't count.
  15. I've seen the Matt Schofield trio a couple of times, a British Blues band. Keyboard player definitely thinks like a bass player. I was astonished at how he could play some complex and syncopated bass lines whilst soloing on the keys.
  16. I have never depped. I usually like to be surrounded by familiarity - know the set inside out, know exactly what everyone else in the band is going to do next. I hate winging it, going to a jam night is my worst nightmare. Got an email last Saturday from a drummer I last played with 7 years ago (but we got on very well) - their bassist is going into hospital Friday (so today) and the gig is Saturday (tomorrow). Can I help? Rock and pop covers, she said. I thought I was bound to know most of the stuff so agreed to do it, albeit slightly apprehensive. Got the set list later Saturday and I have only played 5 of the songs historically, one of which I was glad to see the back of. Half the set I have never heard before Oh dear. I've put my life on hold this week! To make matters worse my little mp3 player packed up just after I loaded all the new songs into it!
  17. I have a Supercompact. Me gusto mucho. If I need more oomph I have a second Supercompact.
  18. My old Fender Precision Lyte had a screw in the neck plate that pushed against a plate within the neck pocket and acted like a shim as a neck tilt mechanism. I believe other basses have similar arrangements. Clearly it isn't a problem.
  19. I had a Precision Lyte and the fingerboard did indeed hang over the edge of the neck. But the body of a P Lyte isn't the same size as a P bass, it is Strat sized with the bridge right on the edge of the body, so some jiggery pokery will be needed, i think.
  20. This sounds familiar... I was in a very short-lived 80s band. We had male/female singers - both of whom where rather good looking as well as being good singers. After a few rehearsals it became clear there was something going on, after a few months they left their respective other halves and moved in together- all sorts of domestic chaos ensued as both had young families. As far as the band were concerned it soon became 'Them and Us' and the whole thing imploded after just 3 gigs. Shame, really, as the band was pretty good. We had spent a lot of money getting some good quality recordings done as we all believed the project had legs. The daft thing is that their relationship fell apart soon afterwards - so giving in to their glands affected so many lives! .
