1. The one I want is the 5 string version of the BB3000, the BB5000. Actually that is incorrect, the one I NEED is the BB5000. Strongest GAS I have ever encountered...
2. You could do a lot worse than an Orange TB500. I've just got one to use with my Supercompact and am enjoying it a lot.
3. I generally have burger and chips before a pub gig at the venue, if they offer such a thing. Would that be Brit Floyd, by any chance? Difficult to tell from your avatar pic but you resemble their bass player.
4. I've previously owned a Ibanez SR300, Squier VM Jazz and currently own a Yamaha BB425. I'd take the Yamaha over any of those every time.
5.
I always forget which came first: Rococobilly or Baroqueabilly.
I feel a band coming on... Big King Louis and the Barockettes, playing a selection of French 17th century rock and roll ditties.
6.
I still want to know more about Rocakabilly, mind.
Similar to Rococobilly but less fancy.
7. I started off with a Compact. Fabulous cab but perhaps slightly lacking top end. A while later I added a Midget. On its own it was a feisty little thing but lacked bottom end. Together they were a match made in Heaven. Or, more accurately, Brighton. Then I replaced the Compact/Midget combination with a Supercompact and that does the same job - has the lows of the Compact but the tightness of the Midget, all in the one cab. A very focused sort of tone. I liked it so much I got another one. Just, well, because.
8. Makes me wish I were still playing 4 strings. Seems a good price. 9.
I have two Trace Elliot AH-300-SMX heads - one spare in the event that #1 has to go into hospital. I have a Quilter Bass Block that I intend to use for rehearsals and to gigs as a back up. It is the best small amp I have tried. I have an ancient dusty old Peavey TKO-80 in my 'office' that I use for home practice and that my cats use as a scratching post. Not turned up very loud. Two Barefaced Supercompacts One Barefaced 110 for quieter rehearsals and possibly smaller gigs. What I don't have any more is GAS for anything else, remarkably.
Proves one should never believe what one reads on the internet, especially if I wrote it. Had a sharp bout of GAS and bought an Orange TB500 and I'm liking it lots. Took me long enough to join the party. Knock on effect is my dusty Peavey TKO has gone to a better place and Trace Elliot head #2 relegated to home practice with second Supercompact - available at short notice should the gig require it. Getting that Peavey downstairs wasn't easy, but the guy who collected it (hi Alex) took it from Benfleet to Stevenage via public transport!
10. Best build yet, Andy - truly magnificent.
11. Yamaha BB425. Strong B string, great range of tones from the PJ pups, unbelievably good value. Close string spacing and not that heavy.
12. I have a couple of 300W TE heads - I've found them to be plenty loud enough for most situations into 8ohms - louder than, say, TC Electronic RH750 or GenzBenz Streamliner 600, which were the class Ds I had at the time.
13. PMs answered. Just to repeat - the one and only trade I am considering would be for a Yamaha BB5000.
14.
the high action allows for banjo style bluegrass fingering.
Must remember that line if I ever sell a bass with an unadjustable bridge. Has Philips Cleartone Conversions moved across the pond?
15. TC Electronic - whichever model you fancy. The 'Spectrocomp' is very good.
16. I like the black tuners with gold details - it mirrors the bridge a bit more.
17. Barefaced Supercompact gets my vote - compared to the Midget and 110 it has a more rounded quality to it.
18. I have the Yamaha BB425 and it is very good indeed. Rock solid, passive P/J with a strong B string. Then you consider how much it costs and it is unbelievable.
19. Do try before you buy if possible. I was in the market for a light and loud combo. I didn't get on with a Fender Rumble, preferred Mark Bass. Both were light but not quite light enough. Both were loud but not quite loud enough. And I didn't really like the tone from either. I ended up with separates - Barefaced 110 and Quilter bass block.
20. Worth having a look at Neotech Mega strap. I got one quite recently and it is doing a good job of spreading the weight of one of my heavier basses and really comfy. 21. I don't think Yamaha BB5000 are very easy to come by, so it isn't a question of saving up and buying one. If one came up I'd buy it and not worry about the cash. But I get the feeling that folks that own them don't want to part with them, much like how I feel about this JV P. So maybe there is a deal to be done between owners of rare and desirable instruments. We'll see. In my defence, I have a second JV P, not a Fender logo but a corker. It was my main bass before I migrated to 5 strings and, of the two, is the one I bonded with more. Probably because it is black, which I love, and because the maple neck has some beautiful almost holographic figuring in it. Plays and sounds just exactly like the F logo one. And, of course, I may feel differently tomorrow and withdraw this! After getting a couple of PMs it is probably worth adding that I am not interested in any other trades, just a BB5000. Also I didn't mention it but it comes with a decent Hiscox case. I didn't take a picture of it but, frankly, if you don't know what one looks like you shouldn't be reading this anyway
