1. Yikes. That would be much too wide for the Ultimate. How on earth do you play such a thing?
2. Question - what is the main objection to using double ball end strings? I find them to be perfectly ok, as is the Steinberger double ball end bridge. Is it simply the lack of choice of strings?
3. How wide does it have to be? I have an 'ultimate stand' that accommodates my 5 string with loads of spare.
4. I'm not sure tbh. When I first got hit by GAS for one of these I did some Googling. (spell check doesn't query this word - language evolves quickly!) The BB5000 appears in catalogues from around 84 to 94. I read on an unofficial source somewhere that the earlier models were basically adapted BB3000 which I have to say sounds unlikely but possibly true. Or maybe just someone's theory - I don't know. This one is an '88 and still has a narrow neck, so maybe the later ones had wider necks? Anyway, mine is now on its way! Mucho excitimento!
5. Excellent stuff! NBD thread with copious pics will be, of course, obligatory...
6. Front isn't so bad, either. Watched that vid a few times now!! Tight string spacing is one of the reasons I sought one of these out, so I am pleased he mentioned it. Shame it won't get played with anything like the same finesse once I've got it
7.
I couldn't wait to get old so I'd have an excuse to stop doing stuff.
No Rhys, not true - I hope that one day, when I am as old as you, I can also find the energy to spread my negativity far and wide! It can't be easy Disclaimer. That was no more serious that the quoted remark. I think I am a bit older.
8. Really... hmm... I don't need any 4 stringers... I don't need any 4 stringers... I don't need any 4 stringers...
9. Paul bought my Hipshot detuner in the simplest of transactions. Immediate payment, good comms throughout. Pleasure dong business.
10. Unless he found two identical ones then - yes - that's headed my way! I am very excited,
11. I found myself in the hamlet of Pitsea, near Basildon, this morning. Actually on purpose, I didn't get lost. I wasn't alone, however. Saw a Crack Converters so popped in, as you do. They had an old Yamaha BB1100S in black which looked in good 'clean used' nick as far as I could tell as it was hanging up the other other side of the desk. Not sure if that is 'an absolute steal' at £250 or just 'a decent price' but this I am sure would be a quality 80s active PJ bass. I would have made them a near offer and brought it home to casa S except I am trying to lose my 4 strings, not gain therm.
12. You Really Got Me, the Kinks.
13. Worth keeping an eye on eBay Japan for 32" scale Precisions, I bought two a couple of years ago and even with shipping, duty etc. they were not expensive. Another one not mentioned, unless I missed it, is the Aria Pro II Cardinal Series - they were medium scale. I had one of the top end of the range models - the CSB 450 Black N Gold - for a while and it was total class. Not quite a precision tone, mind you.
14. Convergence.
15. Chant #1 (don't need this pressure on) by Spandau Ballet.
16. Bought a speakon-speakon lead from Muzz in the simplest of transactions. A pleasure doing business!
17. I'd be happy to meet you same place....
18. Big expense means this needs to be gone - price dropped to £400.
19. Having just committed to buying something expensive this needs to be gone, so price dropped to £400.
