1. Are you able to weigh it by any chance? I am seriously tempted....
2. You might have more luck looking for your 32" scale Precision on eBay from Japanese sellers. They were more common over there. I bought a couple over a period of a year or so - an A serial no. Squier Precision and also a Fender P/J, both 32" scale, both mid80s, from the same seller called batfuk (yes, really). Even with shipping, VAT and import duties they still worked out ok price-wise. He ships with DHL and it took 2 days door to door from Tokyo. Anyway, GLWYS, these are lovely. Edit - just remembered I told you all this before! I thought it sounded familiar! BTW my Katana is still for sale
3. Can't beat black/black/maple in my book.
4. How about a Squier JV Precision? They hold their value, to the irritation of a lot of folks on here , and are consistently good quality.
5. I've tried quite a few replacement bridges on Fenders. I think the Hipshot A is the best engineered one I've tried so far but it is big and quite heavy. Gotoh 201 is straight forward and chunky - probably the most cost effective. Schaller 3D I like a lot, I just put one on my JV Precision, very comfy for palm muting and easy to adjust. You only need 2 new holes - the centre one fits existing hole! Neither of them would show when you put the old bridge back. Didn't get on with a Badass, not that you asked about those.
6. I have a Godin LR Baggs acoustibass, a fretted one in black, that I bought fairly cheaply because it is a bit scruffy and the electrics didn't work. Had the electrics sorted now and it is pretty good stuff. I rarely have occasion to use it and mostly it sits in the case but I am loath to sell it as Sod's Law dictates the day I do move it on will be the day I need a semi-acoustic for something.
7. I forget how many times I have done business with Dunc. I bought back a Harley Benton amp that I sold to him some while back. We could keep doing this for years!" As usual, it has been a pleasure.
8. I bought a cheap set - KAM partybar Mk2. Under £150. They work just fine but not that bright. Added a second set - they are cheaper now! - to work in unison and that was great. Nothing complex, just set to sound activated. 9. Indeed.... I get 'Concentrate on the road!'....
10. It would overlap for sure if positioned in the sweet spot. I would nudge it forward a bit and probably do the switch of the two parts a la Yamaha. I don't have an issue with that as the sound of a Precision played close to the neck is the sound I am after. I am thinking of an Aguilar AG 5P-60 at the moment. I guess there is then the question of balancing the output etc, but that is down to the chap that is going to fit it all
11. I never found a J neck pickup would get me anywhere near a P tone and I think this would be in approx the same position as a J neck pickup. I'd feel more confident of getting the sound I want from a P pickup, i think. But at least, in theory, it will work. The Sterling ticks all the other boxes for my 5er requirements in that it is light, has a narrow neck and close string spacings. If I can get a P tone out of it I will be a happy fellow!
12. I am wondering if it is feasible to add a Precision bass split coil pickup into a Sterling 5 to give me a P bass tone option? I have read a few threads where the opposite was done - MM pickup into a P bass, but wondered if this might give me my desired effect? Wiring-wise, I only use the Sterling on the one 'coils wired in series' setting, so could lose the existing toggle switch functions and get it wired as a pup selector. I guess doing the reversal of the two halves of the pup would make it fit better? Anyone done it, and did it work? Ta!
13. Many thanks. Weight is perfect but the neck too wide for me.
14. Wondering which ones might fit and how much weight is saved! Anyone done it?
15. I just noticed - I have the exact twin of this - exactly the same date in the neck! My regular gigging bass.
16. Yamaha BB425 that weighs 4kg or less! Being picky, in black. White would be fine...
17. Can I ask, please, what the weight is and also the width of the neck at the nut?
18. I was told by the guy at Stringsdirect that their 'Legacy' brand are re-packaged Rotosounds at half the price. I tend to buy those these days but I guess it depends upon whether or not you like Rotosounds
19. I have a couple of Mk VI heads that are superb. There are a couple of common glitches - particularly the buttons for presets/eq/mute sometimes get a bit flaky but easy to get fixed.
20. I do believe I bought a 414 from you a while back!
21.
My BB414's and 415 have always struck me as being a medium weight bass. My last 414 was 4kg
Hmm, right on the wire. A 414 at 4kg - 415 with bigger neck and extra hardware is going to be more. But my thought was are there the odd lighter ones around? As in the case of my Sterling - they *should* weigh in at around 4.25kg but mine is nearly half a kilo less, especially with lightweight tuners fitted. I like the shape and sound of these Yamahas. Anyway, looks like there may be other options I hadn't considered, should the 5 string thing be more than a passing fancy
22. An interesting idea - hadn't thought of that. A lot of love for his basses. I was hoping for something a bit cheaper off the peg but if it isn't out there...
23. Interesting. Never heard of those but they are light with a fairly narrow neck and P style pup.
24. Recently acquired, and am very much enjoying, a 3.86kg MM Sterling 5. But missing having the Precision tone option. I believe Fender or Squier Precision 5ers would have a neck that is too wide, so that kind of leaves me looking at Yamaha BBsomethings. Anyone got a light one or are they all heavier? Muchas gracias!
