1. At the moment straight into a Trace Elliot AH 300-12 SMX into a Barefaced Supercompact, no pedals. Into 2 x Supercompacts if I am feeling cheeky Adjust master volume to taste.
2. Chris - many thanks for that. A fair bit too heavy for my fragile back so temptation firmly removed at a time when I am trying to downsize!
3. Are you able to weigh this accurately, please? Enjoyed your recordings, btw.
4. Be interesting to see what this fetches. They are serious basses. Too heavy for me. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Westone-Thunder-3-/182260357189?hash=item2a6f905845:g:oFYAAOSwFV9XxBdF
5. To the top and back at £350 plus courier - decided I am not going to completely give it away. Just to be clear, this is a quality, early MIJ Squier. It isn't a JV but it is bloody good.
6. I was 16 in 1973 and plunging head first into the rock bands of that era. My favourite at the time may well have been Uriah Heep but, for staying power, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath have been accompanying me for the ensuing 40-odd years.
7. Tony just bought my Vantage bass. Excellent comms throughout, nice friendly chap. He travelled some distance to accommodate the deal and we had a bit of a natter as well. A pleasure doing business!
8. Yes please, Dunc. I'll buy it back!! Just orf out but will get in touch tomorrow.
9. I love the shape of these - I have a 'thing' for mid-C20th design and this ticks so many boxes. One of these (I think it was one of these, anyway) came up recently and sold for around £800. And that was too much for me!
10. 'Live Dates' does it for me - I saw them roughly around that time at the Kursaal in Southend. Has to be up there with Made in Japan, Rockin The Filmore, Strangers In The Night and Live and Dangerous for my all time favourite live album. The wah-wah pedal on the solo in The King Will Come blows me away every time even 40-odd years later.
11. Well, £360 posted is effectively a price drop as Interparcel prices have just taken a big hike!
12. Another option is to mount it on a stand akin to the NS Designs jobbies. A simple mod I did to mine and made a lot of difference as it is how I prefer to play it. I detailed it a bit here: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/6749-stagg/page__st__540__p__2727377#entry2727377
13. I had a MM maple Jazz neck in a MIJ Fender P bass body. Lovely combination. For the money I can't see they can be beaten.
14. Febreze works for me. Or, rather, my stinky guitar cases.
15. And again! I'll do this for £360 posted to mainland UK, no lower. Includes hard case.
16. If it were mine... I'd get a new wiring loom from our very own KiOgon, the pickup you have your eye on or (my favourite for vintage tone) a Fender Original, Wilkinson tuners and a Gotoh 201 bridge, which I find more comfortable than a BBOT.
17. Once. But once is enough to teach me it can happen!
18.
I think you mean; "It literally takes me 3 minutes to replace it" Blue
Indeed! Takes me quite a bit longer. It would take me longet than 3 mins to find the spare string! Compare and contrast- to unplug the non-functioning bass, take it off, put it down, put on the spare sat on the stage next to me, plug it in - takes around 1 minute. But then I am the sort of chap who has the 'platinum' household insurance policy, I get to airports 3 hrs before my flight is due to take off, I always allow extra driving time whenever I go anywhere etc etc.
19. I broke a string at a rehearsal once and, ever since, have taken a back up to a gig - tuned and ready to go. Usually my Hohner B2B - takes up very little space on stage or in the car.
20. I can only speak from personal experience. I have 2 x JV Squier Precisions - one with a Fender logo, one a bit later with Squier logo - and an A serial number 32" scale Squier Precision. The reason I still own them, and not lots of Fenders, is that they are the three best Precisions I have played - and that is quite a few. If the Fenders I had tried had been better, I would have kept those and sold on the Squiers. It may be just the roll of the dice, of course - maybe I have been very unlucky in the Fenders I have tried or maybe I am lucky that these MIJ Squiers have been so good, but that is an unknown factor.
21. I assume so - I don't have one to hand to compare but it would seem rather silly if it wasn't.
