1. I have one in Sonic Blue and it is totally fab. More akin to the better MIJ Squiers, of which I have several. Better than an actual Fender Musicmaster I had, too! Lighter in weight, adjustable bridge, the pickups are powerful 4 pole jobs.
2.
You're describing the Wizard Thumper, I think. The company stopped trading, but someone else continued their designs with the same machinery I believe... I can't recall their name 'though. Still, I'm pretty sure the pickup is still called Thumper. I have one I'm not using but... I'm holding on to it
Hot Rod Pickups - http://www.hot-rodpickups.com/pb-thumper-precision-bass-pickup-574-p.asp I like the Fender Original, sometimes confusingly called the '62 Re-Issue pickup.
3.
I make it 7lb 8oz on bathroom scales
Thank you. I will have a serious think about this today!
4. It had something completely different on when it arrived. You may recall (now I have said it) that you were selling the strings - I bought them. After a bit of chat we came to realise that it was the same bass they were going back on I believe I bought the bass from the guy you sold it to (Kristo). Still my best and favourite
5.
.... if I hadn't foolishly sold the bass I would still be using them...
Are you heartened by the fact that I still am, though?
6. Thanks for that. I'll be very interested to see how much it weighs.
7. Thanks all. I must say these are getting less appealing by the minute! At the moment my Dano Longhorn fills any space in my life for 'quirky/retro' requirements - I'll stick with that. Well, until something else comes along.
8. I don't know if this is at all relevant but I fitted a DiMarzio Model One 'mudbucker' pickup to an Epiphone EB0 that had all sorts of options to wire up with a little toggle switch. Here are the instructions: http://www.dimarzio.com/sites/default/files/diagrams/4Conductor.pdf
9. That is very nice indeed. I have googled but can't find th info - is the body scaled down or same size as a regular T Bird? Can you accurately weigh it please? And does having a shorter neck mean no neck dive!?
10. ^This, plus the Surfcaster has lipstick style pups like the Dano. Having just typed this makes me think - are 'lipstick style pups' a particular type or is it just any old single coil with a curvy metal cover instead of a rectangular plastic one? I have a Dano Longhorn and had a 59DC, both with lipstick pups, both sound alike, neither sounded much like a Jazz, which would be my main point of reference for single coils pups. Edited to make more sense.
11.
No one should ever neglect a bread knife to the extent that it becomes rusty.
That is true. With gentle treatment and careful cleaning a bread knife can last at least a couple of generations, if not 3. But even when they have come to the end of their useful working span in the kitchen they can be given a new lease of life as a garden implement. I have several 'rescue' bread knives in my shed - they are the perfect thing for slicing through soft fleshy growth, such as old banana plant leaves.
12. Isn't it just! What a great thing.
13. My immediate thought was to wonder what they bring to the party that a Danelectro doesn't. But I am still curious
14.
I have been experimenting with thickening them up with blue tack, this not as messy as it sounds, and has the advantage of moulding itself to my thumb and finger as well making it less likely to fall if my grip fails for a moment.
I like the sound of this. Silicon mastic/gel might do this, too, although I always get in a heck of a mess when I use that.
15. At the moment it is my fairly recently acquired JV Squier Precision in B/B/maple. It isn't the bass I like best, but it is the bass I like best for gigging.
16. He was touring with Go West last year, a sort of mix and match of his stuff with Go West's stuff and a few covers chucked in. I saw it twice in a fortnight - once locally and once at the IndigO2 and would reckon the gig at the IndigO2, which was the last night of the tour, is one of the best gigs I have ever seen. They had evidently bonded and it showed. Nik Kershaw is amazing live - massive stage presence and charisma. They are doing a one-off at IndigO2 on December 23rd this year - we have tickets
17. Winning bid was £670. Not mine, I hasten to add.
18. I was pointed in the direction of an Eastwood Surfcaster bass by one of 'my' guitards. http://eastwoodguitars.co.uk/surfcaster-bass-seafoam-green/ Then, having a noodle around the website, this Airline Map bass caught my attention. http://eastwoodguitars.co.uk/airline-map-bass-seafoam/ Both delightfully retro in styling. Has anyone owned/played either and have any observations? Ed Friedland seemed to approve of the Map in a review. https://youtu.be/0OPkbv0mzJ0 Ta!
19. What about a Hofner Shorty? I've never seen or played one - are they any good? Any advantages over anything else, other than they are ridiculously cheap?
20. So far as I can see the point of the thread is that someone has bought and actually used a BF cab and was so pleased he wanted to share the experience. It happens quite a lot, which is why you hear it quite a lot. I cannot understand why that could be perceived as provocative.
21. For long scale nickel rounds I tend to use Legacy strings, which is the Strings Direct 'house brand'. They tell me they are repackaged Rotosounds. £17.50 for a pack of 2, £24.99 for a 3 pack. Most other strings I get from Status Graphite as they are great quality and not expensive - although recently they have had supply problems.
22. I've found Gumtree quite effective over the years, either when looking for a band or looking for musicians to join a band.
23.
Sorry, you clearly have inside knowledge of Thomann's contracts with suppliers more than I do. Your trouble is you made it complicated by trying to save more money than they're prepared to take off. My guess is you're over estimating Thoman's margins. You've a lot to learn about commerce. I wish Thomann luck on this one.
You seem to have taken this one personally. No need to be quite so patronising, though. Yes, I do seem to have over complicated things and now wished I had taken a straight refund in the first place. Had I done that, then being treated like I was something scraped from the bottom of their shoe wouldn't have happened and I wouldn't have wasted so much time trying to sort it out. Live and learn, eh.
