I can agree with that. In fact I have played through TE gear and found it to be true.
At my last gig I used the bassist's rig of the band on after us. It was a Trace Elliot just like mine but going through two TE 4x10 cabs. Monster rig, in terms of size and weight. It has been a while since I lifted my arm to head height to adjust the amp settings But my 2 barefaced Supercompacts would have blown it away in terms of clarity and range of tones. Actually just one might have!

How heavy are these basses? They sound very interesting....

Wow. That is the 600W version of my 300W one, but with the original box and UV. I wonder how much it weighs? Somewhere around 25kg I would imagine.

Deflation, maybe? Removal of GAS and selling at a loss. I have no specific GAS for anything as I have all the gear I need to make the sound I want. But of course then sometimes something comes along from left of field that I never knew existed and suddenly it becomes an obsession. Because you never know unless you try. That is how I got my Yamaha SB-15, which is now one of my top 3 favourite basses.

Reminds me of an ad I put in Gumtree when one of my bands needed a singer. We had a very good response
Frontman needed for covers band. SE Essex rock and pop covers band ‘5 Shades of Grey’ are missing a tint and need a new singer to make the 5[sup]th[/sup] Shade again. The rest of us are aged between 50 and 63 and have been around the block a bit. Our aim is to play 1 or 2 gigs a month to supplement our pensions, not to set the world alight. Sometimes we do charity gigs. Frequent rehearsals (at Mushroom Studios) are necessary to stop us forgetting the tunes. We play a mix of older stuff – if RnB means to you what it means to us then you know the type of material - plus a token sprinkling of newer stuff to please young people. No ‘Sex On Fire’ though. All we ask is that you can pick up and hold a tune, engage with a crowd, are reliable and able to make the necessary commitment to be part of a band. We have PA, lights, comfy stools etc, so all you have to bring to gigs is your own mic and stand. If you can play a harmonica, with or without your teeth in, then all the better. Once your feet are under the table you may be called upon to make the Horlicks. All things considered we are a friendly bunch, don’t take ourselves too seriously but we try to be the best band that we can. In fact we are pretty good as long as we don’t have to stay up too late. We actually have a couple of gigs in the diary, so it would be a shame to waste them!
Replace my trace, New amp shopping " Andertons "
Paul S replied to synthaside's topic in Amps and Cabs
I have a Trace Elliot AH300-12 SMX, so 300W compared to 150W of your amp. I had a Fender Rumble 500 for a short while. Played with a single Barefaced Supercompact the Trace Elliot is way louder than the Rumble. I am also one of the few who doesn't like the Rumble tone - I found it too middy and harsh, too punchy. I'd say if you particularly like the Trace Elliot sound then consider getting a more powerful Trace head and pair it with a light weight cab. -

As a kind of post script to this the pub's Facebook page has put the blame on the band. Also some people who turned up to see us were told 'the band stormed off because we wouldn't turn off the TVs'. Our guitarist, who booked it, got his cancellation email - sent to this work account - today. It was sent at 2.05pm on Saturday.
Unfortunatly we are going to have to cancel our gig with you tonight due to England & Wales playing from 7:45pm and also boxing being on from 10:30pm. There wouldnt be much time left for you to play as our Music License finishes at 11:30pm. Sorry for the inconveience caused, i wasnt aware this was on untill this morning.
(sic) So - any south east Essex bands who are booked at the Paul Pry in Rayleigh - be warned!!
-
I have 2 x Supercompacts, which is essentially a Super Twin. If I am honest one of these is probably good for 95% of the gigs I am likely to do. But two is rather splendid This is with a Trace Elliot AH300 - a combination that gives me exactly what I want from my gig rig.

I had one of the 90s MIJ SR800 basses. Around 7.5lbs and a *very* thin neck, beautifully made. However, they have a different sound which sadly wasn't to my liking. As you are coming from a Yamaha BB414 I think this is something to be aware of - try before you buy!
-
I've used it a couple of times with no problems. The registration process isn't complicated and you don't have to wait long for the money to be paid in.
I really feel for you. The pub is out of order, but if I were you I'd also have words with your guy who booked it. It's a bit daft IMHO, giving them an email address that won't reach him at the weekend. I wouldn't allow a situation where the band stuff gets mixed with work. But maybe that's just me?
Had his work email been the only contact details she had been given I would agree with you, but it wasn't. She had home landline, mobile, home email as well. Didn't even think to consider what she was doing. No-one in the band is particularly interested in sport of any kind, so we wouldn't know what events were on and when. I wonder how far you need to go to nursemaid these venues. And yes, Pete, spot on - no fee and blamed the brewery.
-
We turned up for our gig, booked months ago, to be told the gig was cancelled. Landlady said she'd had a call from the brewery to say they needed to show the football, not have a band. She did however give us plenty of notice - sent an email yesterday morning to the guitarists work account. At easter. Nice. Not a lot to be done but it isn't a place i will be in a hurry to play again. The Paul Pry in Rayleigh, in case any local bands want to know. If you have a gig booked there, I'd phone just before you leave to make sure it is still on.
-
A bit steep, I think. If you hang on another will surely come along at a better price, they aren't rare.
-
I'd say between £120-180 depending upon condition. An exceptional one might top £200 but not worth any more. Nice basses - I reckon they are the best value fretless out there if you like unlined boards.

I like Hiscox cases. I stood on mine with the bass inside to prove a point once - I weigh around 100kg +/- Probably a bit + as I am still wearing my winter coat But for Fender shaped basses I actually prefer the SKB shaped case. The inside is fitted, so absolutely no jiggling about, and the latches are easier to operate. No-one mentions KC and the Sunshine Band That's The Way I Like It. Odd but infectious bass line http://youtu.be/iwy8gSx9cSk And a host of other biggies from the mid-late 70s.

Dodgy bands you've seen , and enjoyed the gig ;)

I saw Wet Wet Wet at the O2 a couple of weeks ago. Against my expectation they were great!
