1.
Doris Stokes was a happy medium.
And this is an Epimedium I am currently using Barefaced Supercompact cab with an old ABS rack-mounted Trace Elliot head, both weigh about the same so it is a balanced carry. Although my 'new' Fender Rumble has put a smile on my face immediately... a combo can be useful sometimes.
2. Steve bought my rack case in the simplest of transactions. Great comms. A pleasure doing business!
3. It is my pleasure to be the first to leave feedback fro Ninja_Baby. I bought Nick's Fender Rumble combo in the most straightforward of sales. I said 'yes please', he brought it round, I gave him money. If only everything in Life were that straightforward! A pleasure doing business, Nick
4. Bought a Hipshot detuner from Steve in the simplest of transactions, arrived promptly and beautifully packaged. Perfect!
5. I seem to be afflicted by GAS in the same way as I am my bad back. There is a constant latency about it - the condition always exists but doesn't always manifest itself. Then I see a picture of something interesting and, bang, there it is - full blown GAS.
6. A quick post script - I bought one of these rifle hard cases for my new B2B bass and it fits perfectly. Offers more protection than the gig bags. Bit tight at the fat end but the foam will squash down. Plano SE Rimfire http://www.ebay.co.u...=item280c0c9515 Not for RATM though.
7. They are over here this summer, looking forward to seeing them.
8. Me too I'd recommend spending a while sifting through some of the Japanese eBay sellers. There seems to be more short and medium scale basses floating around over there. Secondhand prices are very low so that, even with all the extras you get hit with when importing, you can often find more choice at an acceptable price. I've bought 3 basses from Japan in the past few years and it has always been a surprisingly pleasant and uncomplicated procedure.
9. I need to listen to more of them, I think. We were going to do this in one band but, in the end, decided that our backing vocals didn't come up to scratch... http://youtu.be/hFzG7vD_bZ4
10. Great gig in a tiny pub in Castle Hedingham, The Bell, on Friday with my band Illegal Tender. A small but very appreciative crowd. Turkish specials on the menu - I got there early and had a delicious lamb mince dish. We've been booked to go back in June.
11. How about this? Black scaled down Precision bass body, 32" scale and, if you don't use the J pup, sounds just like a Precision: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/277406-132-price-drop-mid-80s-fender-jazz-bass-special-mij-32-scale-all-black-pj-535-l400-posted/ OK, shameless plug for something that isn't exactly as specified but, well, you know...
12.
You should bite the OP's hand off anyway. It's new and is a bargain!
A valid point. PM incoming
13. I bought one of these on here some while ago but have only this week got around to sorting out my effects board, such as it is. I charged the Volto from fully flat, ignoring when the LEDs stopped flashing and carrying on overnight. Must have been 12 hours on charge. I then used it to power up the pedals - Line 6 Relay G50 receiver, Mighty Sound PT06 tuner, zoom MS-60B, Boos LS-2 to see how long they would last. I was expecting 10-12 hours but checking after 6 everything was dead. I am starting the process again and will check more often to see exactly how long it takes for it all to die. I can't help feeling it should last longer? What would be realistic? Does switching on the pedals without actually using them make any difference to the power consumption? Ordinarily I would only use the tuner a couple of times a night, the LS-2 would be off mostly. Is the Line 6 receiver high power demanding? Obviously I can use it with the chord but that kind of defeats the object. ta!
14. He could also forward it to the current Mrs discreet, of course.....
15.
Show him the door. If the rest of the band won't fire him, walk. Seriously, it'll drive you bonkers otherwise.
This is what I would do. Assuming you do this as a hobby for fun, as soon as it stops being fun you have to re-think.
16. Just checked and the weight is actually nearer to 7.5lbs. Listed at 3.4kgs when I bought it.
17. I've had a few and really like them. I currently have two - a Squier Musicmaster Vista Series, which is totally awesome, and a Danelectro Longhorn, which is also totally awesome but in a different way. I find the shorter scale length really comfortable - I guess a lot depends upon your fretting hand technique but nothing seems to be as much of a stretch as full scale. As has been said, some (but not all) have a different thuddy kind of tone to them. Another big thing for me is that they are often (but not always) quite lightweight - the Dano in particular is in danger of floating away. I am not small and don't have small hands, so it is nothing do do with size - you often see short scale basses listed as 'great starter basses' 'woman or men with small hands' and other such nonsense. You also often see it mentioned as being 'great if you have just migrated from guitar' but I also think that is nonsense. You either like shortscale or don't, as far as I can see. Definitely worth trying to see if it 'fits'.
18. Bump for a proper 30 year old Fender in remarkable condition AND rare medium scale!!
19.
Yamaha BX1 might be a good option.
Now THAT is stunning. Thank you - it was the one I was trying to remember having seen a picture of one yonks ago but it wouldn't come to mind. Mind you, having noodled around on it for a couple of days I find that the B2B is rather nice. More my cup of tea than the B2A. I may stick a Fender original pup in it to see what difference that makes.
20. I love that video - Johnnie Walker is the perfect voice-over man, always seems to be on the verge of giggling. For me it is the amps that makes Trace Elliot, not the cab. I put mine through a Barefaced Supercompact so have a balanced carry, weight-wise - cab in one hand, amp in the other as they are similar weights. As you say, best of both worlds.
21. Warwick do a couple with varying degrees of padding. If you need something a bit sturdier some rifle cases seem a decent fit. This one, for example: http://www.uttings.co.uk/p106188-plano-gunguard-se-single-rifle-case-do10470/#.Vr9KC_KLShc
