Going back to Trace Elliot felt, to me, like coming home after a few years wandering in Class D Wilderness. I have two now, taken out of their wooden boxes which makes them considerably lighter.

As a sort of post script to this thread I have just bought a Hohner B2B. Until I saw the advert I hadn't ever encountered this model, but it is passive with P/J pickups and a bolt on neck. All of which make it more desirable for me, especially the P pickup. Should be getting it tomorrow, with luck. So in the end I kind of played safe, but with a little hint of the unknown

I made a stand for my Stagg EUB and play, standing, with it fitted but I not sure you could use the same idea for your bass. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/6749-stagg/page__st__540__p__2727377#entry2727377

I have a 300W Trace Elliot amp. AH300-SMX-12. Mounted into an ABS rack case it weighs around 12kg - similar weight to my BF Supercompact,. so makes carrying both at the same time quite balanced. It is 300W into 4Ohms and louder, with greater heft, than the TC Electronic RH750 or Little Mark Tube 800 I was using. It is so good I bought a second to use as back up and, once a few niggles have been sorted, i think it sounds even better and is a touch lighter - out of its wooden box. Still tempted by one of these, though...

Hipshot ultralite D tuner identification help
Paul S replied to fretmeister's topic in Accessories and Misc
It is the HE6C, then either 1/2" or 3/8th depending upon the shaft size - I can't tell from the pic. I might want to buy it if it is the 1/2" -
Great review, Mark, as usual Definitely got me curious now!

I've seen them a few times in recent years, last time at the Brooklyn Bowl at the O2 last year. That was their worst performance that I have seen, really off the boil. They didn't seem particularly tight - usually a huge strong point. They collectively mucked up one of the tunes quite badly, forgot the words, lost the plot enough for Norman to comment on it afterwards. They did, as always, still perform with attitude but I think Derek 'The Draw' seemed to be suffering from a particularly strong bout of Tourettes and his constant stream of invective just got tiring after a while. I hope that was a one-off.

I bought a Fender Original Precision pickup from there for a good deal less than it could be bought anywhere else. So that means it is now on my radar and, if ever I am thinking of buying something new, I will check to see how it compares. But I don't have enough store loyalty (or more likely too much of a tightwad) to shop in any one place blindly.

Fella I know is a big Rod Stewart fan, his wife even more so. Goes to see him whenever the occasion arises, including one time when they were on holiday in Australia, got tickets to see him at Sydney Opera House. As a treat for is wife's 65th birthday he booked a meal at The Ivy restaurant, where a lot of celebs dine, in Soho before going to a show. At a table the other side of the restaurant sat Rod Stewart, who at one point got up and headed for the lavs. My mate followed him in and collared him - terrible thing to do and he could have got chucked out of the place as it is specifically mentioned as not allowed. Explained that he was a huge fan, thanked him for making such good music (yuck), how much he enjoyed the show in Sydney etc. Surprisingly Rod took all this quite well and seemed friendly enough. So my mate decided to push his luck and said 'it is my wife's 65th birthday, it would make her day if you could wish her a happy birthday'. Rod asked what table he was on, then they both left the lavs. Sure enough, 10 mins later Rod Stewart came over to his table, said 'I understand it is your birthday today - I hope you have a lovely evening' took his wife's hand and kissed the back of it.

Go West..remember them....tidy basslines...Pino?
Paul S replied to iconic's topic in General Discussion
I've been seeing Go West since they started - back then I wasn't a bassist so had no idea who was playing but was more appreciative of Alan Murphy's innovative guitar style. When Go West 'stuttered' he moved on to Level 42 and did some great stuff with them - 'Heaven in My Hands' particularly. I'd say that just at the moment Go West are playing as well live as they ever have done - the current band are absolutely fantastic and Peter Cox's voice has matured into something quite special. I saw them late last year at IndigO2 with Nick Kershaw and it was a totally awesome show - nigh on perfect sound and a perfect performance. My only disappointment is that, bizarrely, they seem keen on playing covers which, for a band with such a wealth of great material, seems such a waste. -
I said my Fury was " beat to hell " which I think you thought was "mojo" then realised no I really meant beat to hell 8lbs was the weight you were looking for wasn't it ?
Yes, 8lbs

Chastised?! If I gave that impression I really am sorry as that was never my intention. We talked, didn't agree, moved on. If anything I thought you'd label me as a time waster! Must keep my eyes peeled for a BBM one then. Although I have to say my recent JV Squier P in BBM has diluted my GAS rather majorly. If I got a BBM Fury, what would it do that the JV doesn't? Other than cost less. Never thought I'd ask myself that kind of question
-
You did and do. I subsequently got another Fury on eBay, assuming they were all lightweight - I didn't ask the weight and it ended up weighing over 10lbs so that went too. Shame as it was in lovely nick - a white/white/maple one. I wonder if they ever did black/black/maple?
The Fury has no chance,Paul_S sold his last week for £77 on eBay.
Not me - I've been Peaveyless for some months now. Maybe whoever bought it from me (I forget who that was now) Re routing bits out of a T40, would that make it neck dive?
I have a Bergantino CN212, don't think I have a lip I could use for this. Now I'm considering this - http://www.guitarholder.com/ It's a foam holder, and attaches to a cabinet with a velcro strip. I've emailed them asking how the velcro attaches to the cabinet.
Be interested to hear how this pans out - looks very interesting!

Who was Lulu's 'The Boat That I Row' bass player?
Paul S replied to lowland's topic in General Discussion
That's Lulu, not Lu Lu - which makes her sound Chinese. -
Same here. People don't always respond, that's just people doing what people do, but I have often had what I am looking for and, conversely, had what others are looking for.

Status Quo hanging up their electric guitars
Paul S replied to KingPrawn's topic in General Discussion
I have a soft spot for Quo. I think they are responsible for my hearing loss later in life I saw them for the first time in 1972 when they were touring to promote the album Piledriver. The single 'Paper Plane' had just been released. 'There is a space at the front next to those big speakers' I said, so that is where we stood. Rob Young's harmonica in 'Railroad' went straight through my head - very painful - and I couldn't hear properly for 3 days afterwards. Back then they were young, fresh and powerful - no-one else was playing blues rock quite like it IMO and I saw them half a dozen times in the early to mid 70s. Trouble is, again IMO, if you saw them back then you realise what a pastiche of themselves they have become in recent [s]years[/s] decades. http://youtu.be/IBlLfuGKmOU
