Any builders in the UK that could make this bass?
Paul S replied to project_c's topic in Bass Guitars
Me too I'd recommend spending a while sifting through some of the Japanese eBay sellers. There seems to be more short and medium scale basses floating around over there. Secondhand prices are very low so that, even with all the extras you get hit with when importing, you can often find more choice at an acceptable price. I've bought 3 basses from Japan in the past few years and it has always been a surprisingly pleasant and uncomplicated procedure. -
I need to listen to more of them, I think. We were going to do this in one band but, in the end, decided that our backing vocals didn't come up to scratch... http://youtu.be/hFzG7vD_bZ4

Great gig in a tiny pub in Castle Hedingham, The Bell, on Friday with my band Illegal Tender. A small but very appreciative crowd. Turkish specials on the menu - I got there early and had a delicious lamb mince dish. We've been booked to go back in June.

How about this? Black scaled down Precision bass body, 32" scale and, if you don't use the J pup, sounds just like a Precision: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/277406-132-price-drop-mid-80s-fender-jazz-bass-special-mij-32-scale-all-black-pj-535-l400-posted/ OK, shameless plug for something that isn't exactly as specified but, well, you know... -

I bought one of these on here some while ago but have only this week got around to sorting out my effects board, such as it is. I charged the Volto from fully flat, ignoring when the LEDs stopped flashing and carrying on overnight. Must have been 12 hours on charge. I then used it to power up the pedals - Line 6 Relay G50 receiver, Mighty Sound PT06 tuner, zoom MS-60B, Boos LS-2 to see how long they would last. I was expecting 10-12 hours but checking after 6 everything was dead. I am starting the process again and will check more often to see exactly how long it takes for it all to die. I can't help feeling it should last longer? What would be realistic? Does switching on the pedals without actually using them make any difference to the power consumption? Ordinarily I would only use the tuner a couple of times a night, the LS-2 would be off mostly. Is the Line 6 receiver high power demanding? Obviously I can use it with the chord but that kind of defeats the object. ta!
Show him the door. If the rest of the band won't fire him, walk. Seriously, it'll drive you bonkers otherwise.
This is what I would do. Assuming you do this as a hobby for fun, as soon as it stops being fun you have to re-think.

I've had a few and really like them. I currently have two - a Squier Musicmaster Vista Series, which is totally awesome, and a Danelectro Longhorn, which is also totally awesome but in a different way. I find the shorter scale length really comfortable - I guess a lot depends upon your fretting hand technique but nothing seems to be as much of a stretch as full scale. As has been said, some (but not all) have a different thuddy kind of tone to them. Another big thing for me is that they are often (but not always) quite lightweight - the Dano in particular is in danger of floating away. I am not small and don't have small hands, so it is nothing do do with size - you often see short scale basses listed as 'great starter basses' 'woman or men with small hands' and other such nonsense. You also often see it mentioned as being 'great if you have just migrated from guitar' but I also think that is nonsense. You either like shortscale or don't, as far as I can see. Definitely worth trying to see if it 'fits'.
Yamaha BX1 might be a good option.
Now THAT is stunning. Thank you - it was the one I was trying to remember having seen a picture of one yonks ago but it wouldn't come to mind. Mind you, having noodled around on it for a couple of days I find that the B2B is rather nice. More my cup of tea than the B2A. I may stick a Fender original pup in it to see what difference that makes.

I love that video - Johnnie Walker is the perfect voice-over man, always seems to be on the verge of giggling. For me it is the amps that makes Trace Elliot, not the cab. I put mine through a Barefaced Supercompact so have a balanced carry, weight-wise - cab in one hand, amp in the other as they are similar weights. As you say, best of both worlds.

Warwick do a couple with varying degrees of padding. If you need something a bit sturdier some rifle cases seem a decent fit. This one, for example: http://www.uttings.co.uk/p106188-plano-gunguard-se-single-rifle-case-do10470/#.Vr9KC_KLShc

Going back to Trace Elliot felt, to me, like coming home after a few years wandering in Class D Wilderness. I have two now, taken out of their wooden boxes which makes them considerably lighter.

As a sort of post script to this thread I have just bought a Hohner B2B. Until I saw the advert I hadn't ever encountered this model, but it is passive with P/J pickups and a bolt on neck. All of which make it more desirable for me, especially the P pickup. Should be getting it tomorrow, with luck. So in the end I kind of played safe, but with a little hint of the unknown

I made a stand for my Stagg EUB and play, standing, with it fitted but I not sure you could use the same idea for your bass. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/6749-stagg/page__st__540__p__2727377#entry2727377

I have a 300W Trace Elliot amp. AH300-SMX-12. Mounted into an ABS rack case it weighs around 12kg - similar weight to my BF Supercompact,. so makes carrying both at the same time quite balanced. It is 300W into 4Ohms and louder, with greater heft, than the TC Electronic RH750 or Little Mark Tube 800 I was using. It is so good I bought a second to use as back up and, once a few niggles have been sorted, i think it sounds even better and is a touch lighter - out of its wooden box. Still tempted by one of these, though...

Hipshot ultralite D tuner identification help
Paul S replied to fretmeister's topic in Accessories and Misc
It is the HE6C, then either 1/2" or 3/8th depending upon the shaft size - I can't tell from the pic. I might want to buy it if it is the 1/2"
