1. I check in a few times a day. I have insatiable curiosity about gear - what people use, how they use it. Costs me a fortune in the classifieds, too. I mostly enjoy the off topics - I don't usually bother reading a paper but if anything worth mentioning in the world occurs it gets reported here. On the whole I think this is a wonderful, friendly and helpful community and compared to most it remains reasonably even-tempered. I love the humour of some posters and the forum is guaranteed to make me smile a few times a day. I also find it amusing to see the new heights of arrogance to which a couple of regular posters rise... there seems no limit at the moment.... IMO
2. Ziggy bought my Mono gig bag. Easy peasy. Nice friendly chap to deal with
3. Too many - rich time for music. Songs From The Big Chair, Tears for fears? Dire Straits Live in Wembley Arena?
4. Quite a pedigree! C'mon folks, keep it in the family!
5. I've bought 3 basses from Japan, no particular problems. One seller used Parcelforce as the partner at this end, 3 days from Tokyo to Coventry then 2 weeks Coventry to my local depot, from where I had to collect it. The other seller sent it DHL and it was 2 days door to door, Tokyo to Benfleet. Cost a little bit more but very much worth it. And I think the under-calculated the duty etc.
6. It is quite shallow, smaller than the Gator shallow. With the lids off it is 209mm between the mounting thingies. 60mm clear inside the lids. The amps I was gong to use it for are too deep so it is no good for my purposes.
7. Maybe you'd get a free card in the case? If you go through Westones at the rate I do you'd complete the album in no time. Heaven knows what he would want for a mint Paduak or Prestige, which were the more collectible models.
8. PMs answered, thanks everyone for your interest. On hold at he moment.
9. Spot on Dave - EVO II. Thank you! I will change the post. Link to a manual pdf. http://ashdownmusic.com/files/uploads/MAGEB_EVO_II.pdf
10. Gear For Music Shallow 2U ABS rack case in good nick £35 posted to mainland UK, £30 collected from SS7 http://www.gear4musi...QrNMxoCeLnw_wcB
11. Dimwit that I am, I have described this incoorectly. it is in fact a 4U case, not a 3U case. So, I am actually selling a Gator [s]3U[/s] 4U ABS rack unit, good nick. £40 posted to mainland UK, £32 collected from SS7 [s]One of these: https://www.bax-shop...jMTwxoC5E7w_wcB[/s] One of these http://www.gatorcase...9201-1609/gr-4s
12. Mono vertigo gig bag, great nick, £80 posted to mainland UK. £70 collected from SS7. Not much else to say
13. I bought this from our very own Discreet only a short while ago as back up to my Trace Elliot amp. I am sorry to say I have not bonded with it and have now got another Trace Elliot amp. Sorry Mark! So, heavy, loud, pro-standard rock monster amp. [s]One of these, I suppose: http://ashdownmusic....BM-500-EVO-III/[/s] Looks, erm, like an Ashdown ABM 500, here are some pics to prove it: Looking for just £200 collected from SS7, which is Benfleet on the south Essex Riviera. I'd rather not post it as it is very heavy and contains valves which never seem to travel that well. Could deliver within a reasonable distance or meet half way for fuel. I repeat this is £200 for the ABM amp, not a MAG amp. Oh, yes, comes with the dust cover.
14. Here we have my Fender Jazz Bass Special made by Fugi-gen for Fender, Japan, between '84-87. Passive bass, P/J pickup configuration with slanted pickups. A very rare 32" scale and, I believe, non-export model that I imported from Japan a shortish while ago. Black everything except strings and dot markers. Deep glossy black finish has some surface scratching here and there but otherwise you could hang it on the wall and use it as a mirror. Bit of buckle rash and dink on the back, bit of paint missing at the bottom curve. Jazz width neck 38mm at the nut, very shallow. Scaled down body that looks in proportion with the neck. F logo control knobs which are vol/tone/tone with a toggle pup select switch. Overall in excellent, especially for a 30 year old bass. Very little fret wear. P pup sounds somewhere between vintage and SD 1/4 pounder - bit of aggression in there. J sounds like a J. P/J sounds lovely - dark and deep but still burpy. Weighs a ridiculous [s]7lbs[/s] 7.5lbs/3.4kg on my luggage scales. I have taken a couple of pics but link to these 100 or so taken by the original seller that are still in cyber land. https://drive.google...THc&usp=sharing No change since then other than the leatherette gig bag has gone. This is an eye catching, drop dead gorgeous and very, very rare thing. So why am I selling it? A recently acquired Squier JV Precision has caused a bit of turbulence at Casa S and I find I don't want to use anything much else at the moment. I am asking [s]£420[/s] [s]£400[/s] collected from SS7, which is Benfleet on the south Essex Riviera. Fully insured overnight courier would be another £25. I could deliver with reason or meet half way for fuel costs. [s]Now £375 collected or £400 posted[/s]. Now £375 posted to UK mainland, £350 collected.
15. Turn it around. You lend a bass to X, he then sells it - without your permission - to a shop, who sell it to Y. If it were mine I'd expect it back with no quibbling.
16. I can only say that the pic of my black bass does not do it justice, despite my ugly mug reflected on the back. Think 'deep, glossy piano finish' and you are getting nearer.
17. This is a simple 'theft/receiving stolen goods' issue. The key point here is the original owner - estranged father - says he didn't give anyone the right to sell it (so it was effectively 'stolen') and so he legally retains ownership of it no matter what anyone else says or does, albeit in good faith as far as you and the shop are concerned. You will have to return it (as it is 'stolen property') and get a refund. Then perhaps consider approaching the owner directly who would appear to be using the situation as some sort of leverage and may not actually want it.
18. Countless musical instruments get moved safely from country of manufacture to the rest of the world each week. Obviously there is always a risk but if you want to open up your market to more buyers beyond collection/meet half way you have to mitigate that risk and I think adequate packaging is the key. To my shame I have bought and sold a lot of basses - check my feedback - sent 4 to European countries, imported 3 from Japan, all the rest within the UK. Only once was a bass damaged and that was my own stupid fault for not packing it properly. The only time I haven't had the confidence to sent a bass via courier was a Danelectro as I am not sure it was intrinsically rugged enough given the packaging materials I had available. Ideally: bass > bubblewrap > hard case > bubblewrap > sturdy box. If no hard case then a second sturdy box to replace the hard case, packing out the empty bits so it can't move and with extra wadding top and tail. It takes time, effort and care but is worth it.
19.
I always use UPS via Interparcel, never had any problems, items always delivered on time, sometimes early.
+1
20. Westone Thunder 1A fretless, starting at £20. One original knob missing. These are fab, sound really great, on the heavy side. Might end up a bargain if anyone wants to dabble with unlined fretless. 21. I think I may invest in one for my Musicmaster as it does rattle around in everything else I have got. So thanks for the heads up!
