I enjoyed that. One man's 'sterile' is obviously another man's 'polished'. There is a UK Eagles tribute band called Illegal Eagles. A few years ago they had a singer called Ray Brown whose voice just sent shivers down my spine. For some reason - I think it was an egocentric guitar player who felt upstaged by his talent - he departed and they now have someone fairly ordinary fronting them. Here is Ray Brown singing 'Love Ill Keep Us Alive' http://youtu.be/39HnzHlTCtA
Pictures of Lilly.
Indeed. Here is a lesser known track by Stretch (of 'Why Did You Do It' fame) that was rather tongue in cheek called 'Navy Blues', complete with heavy breathing double vocal track. Absolutely sumptuous sounding bass on this http://youtu.be/nsOjiNR8XoI
Paul, just had a look at the TC Electronic stuff - very interesting, especially the features: 3-button memory, on-board tuner etc. Trouble is that 750 Watts is too much for my cabs (2 x 10 at 250W and 1 x 15 at 300W, both 8ohm). The RH450 might be better for me - any idea whether it sounds generically the same as its bigger brother?
Just back from a few days away, sorry for the delay. I've had both a Classic 450 and the RH 750 and tone-wise they sounded identical to me - I htink the difference is in the bells and whistles. I don't know how the maths pans out but in the context of the band, to me, 750 TC Electronic watts are about the same volume as 300 Trace Elliot watts.

I have one and absolutely love it. A series MIJ 32" scale, slim necked Squier Precision in a strange shape that weighs 7lbs. Sounds huge, stocks pups have a touch more bite than some Ps, built superbly well and the neck is just to die for.
You can do all of this with an MS60b. I use it in a similar way. You just need a couple of patches set as bypass (or the amp model you normally use) and also a few with your desired effect or a clean boost for your solo. Then you assign them the A,B,C,D etc tags in the order you are most likely to need them. I typically have - A - bypass B - chorus for Sweet Child of Mine C - Bypass D - SVT model E- bypass F - Opto Comp And then a load more stuff up to H! Each time you stomp it, it jumps thru and you always have a quickly accessible clean sound. Sounds complex but its actually pretty easy. You can go thru the whole lot in a couple of seconds easily. The key is always having that bypass set inbetween effected patches. Ps i have a B1on as well for home practice but dont use iit live, the MS60b is much more useable ina live situation. Havent tried a B3 but its on the xmas list......
I do pretty much this, although I now use it in conjunction with a Boss LS-2 and arrange it so that A is effect loop (short loop - the MS-60B!) and B is bypass. You can squeeze more settings in that way if you need them. But I guess if you need to bounce between effects settings during a track, saving them in the order you need them as above then just click through. Not being an effects hound, for me it makes a fairly compact board for those few I do use - MS60B, LS-2 and a tuner.

I've recently gone back to a Trace head - RAH-300-12 SMX - after some years of using Class Ds. Tone is very subjective - some people hate them, some love them! But, like you, I find that pushing in the pre-shape does everything I want a bass amp to do. The amp I have kept as back up (right up until I can get another Trace head that is similar) is a TC Electronic RH750. To my ears it sounds the closest to the Trace sound of the amps I have tried (GenzBenz Streamliner, Markbass Tube 800) and also it is nearly as loud. Doesn't make me smile in the same way, though. I'd be interested to try an Orange Terror Bass as a direct comparison but haven't got one yet.

Related question - how do you pronounce the word 'timbre' A la francais? TAM-ber? 'TIM-ber'? Or anything else?

As you can tell from my feedback I do quite a bit of to-ing and fro-ing and always use Interparcel - the service using UPS. I'm on first name terms with the local guy The only time I ever had a problem it was because I didn't pack the bass well enough and a sticky-out control knob had the shaft bent slightly - that was my fault not theirs. Use lots of packaging!

Is this just someone making an error, or have I been missing something

String break on Fender headstock A string is not good and they can pop out of the nut. Happened to me with a bass some while back and, taking advice from here, it is easily cured by winding the string right the way down the shaft. Seems rather clumsy to do what he has done when all you need to do it unwind then rewind the string. -
I've bought a Japanese Squier... but what exactly?

I had a Silver Series Precision and also a Jazz. Both had 'Silver Series' written on the headstock, afaik a silver logo doesn't mean silver series. Straight out of the case with no mods the P bass was one of the nicest I have ever laid hands on and I was totally stupid to sell it. Weighed around 8lbs, had a 40mm wide neck and a dark, woody tone.
