1.
I think if I was to spend money I would look at the barefaced range, I haven't got a clue which one/s would give a similar power and sound to what I have now though!
Drop Alex a PM and ask, he is always happy to advise. I have used a TC Classic 450 and RH750 through BF Compact, Midget and now Supercompact. They all sound different and all exactly as Alex described when I asked him.
2. Thank you. A shade too heavy and too wide. Another sleepless night avoided. I do find these incredibly attractive. I guess the single pup version is a touch lighter? Anyway, GLWYS, shouldn't be around for long.
3. The best Precision bass for me is my mid 80s A series MIJ Squier medium scale precision (sorry Ted). Everything about it suits me better than any others I have tried - weight, neck width, neck radius, scale length, tone - the whole lot. I've had quite a number - USA, MIJ, still own an early JV Fender logo Squier - and they just haven't stacked up.
4. Two questions, if you don't mind. How much does this weigh? How wide is the neck at the nut? Ta
5. Just listed on eBay, collection only London with a few limited delivery options. http://www.ebay.co.u...AAAAOSwcBhWbd8- This is the 'pro' model with a pup selector switch and adjustable bridge. If I didn't already have one this would be mine by now - serious bargain! edit - he obviously cut and pasted the description from somewhere without looking at his actual model.
6. Thanks Mike. A tad too heavy for me I am glad to say otherwise it would have caused me a sleepless night.
7. GAS for the first time in a while. I find that I need a Squier Musicmaster Vista Series in sonic blue.
8. We Belong To The Night, UFO. Live at Hammersmith, 1983. What a belter of an opener! http://youtu.be/nt0o0997ssA
9. That looks beautiful. My inevitable questions are: Can you please weigh it accurately? What is the width of the neck at the nut? Ta.
10. Finished a whisker under £243. Was the lucky bidder one of us?
11. Great gig last night at Rayleigh Mill. Second outing for my new classic rock covers band The Wayward Sons - we played a support slot for a soul band with whom we share drummer and keys. Slightly wavery start but once we warmed up the place was 'rocking'. I think we blew the soul band away, to be honest
12. Probably not the best but I am surprised no-one has posted it yet Is this long enough to qualify as an intro? http://youtu.be/qR0K0mmm6R4
13. This was my main amp for a while, shunted down the order to 'back up' once I got back into my favoured Trace Elliot again, and now surplus to requirements. TC Electronic RH 750. Amp itself is in good nick, faulty buttons have been replaced, everything works and no issues I am aware of. This is loud into 8ohms and very loud into 4ohm! For me the good things are the programmable presets, the very effective Tubetone and the onboard compressor - these are not gimmicks but good useable tools. At least i found them so. Plus of course the tuner, which seems accurate and clear. RC4 Footswitch operates the 3 presets, has the tuner display and a mute function, all very useful to have at your feet. This one has a scratch on the top, see pic, also one of the nuts holding preset button 3 in place is missing. Nevertheless it all works just fine. Obviously included is the connecting cable. Link to TC website for general guff and details http://www.tcelectronic.com/rh750/ The padded soft gig bag into which it all fits nicely is in good nick apart from a small area where seam is coming adrift near the zip - something these gig bags seem prone to do. Kettle lead included - whole lot was PAT tested last month, fwiw. Priced to sell at a very reasonable [s]£500[/s] boxing day reduction to £450 collected from SE Essex, SS7. Overnight fully insured courier would be £25 on top. bank transfer or 'no fee' PayPal are just fine. cash on collection even better Not looking to sell the footswitch separately. 14. I have before now used luminous stickers, used a hole punch to cut out dots, stuck them in the required positions then charged then with a UV light pen. The dots do have a tendency to become unstuck, though - I then used clear nail lacquer to keep them in place. The whole thing is completely reversible.
15. Ray Gelato at Thorpe Hall Golf Club. They've started a bit of a jazz night there. Just Ray, girl singer whose name escapes me, drums, double bass (nice) and keys. A bit samey - on the whole I prefer the big band version to give more light and shade. Still, wasn't a bad night - entry was cheap, food was nice albeit small portions.
16. That is crazy. I just bought one from the other end of the scale, a Thunder Jet, for £90 posted. i don't need one but just couldn't resist for that.
17. North of Colchester, east side of the country. Good enough for me.
18. First thing I have ever seen that makes me wish i lived in the northeast! Casapete - you fancy this? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Danelectro-56-Bass-/262180223000?hash=item3d0b28b818:g:mxAAAOSwEetV-Fk~
19. I would throw a Westone Thunder 1A into the ring. If my back weren't so fragile, anyway Great value, if rather heavy, instruments that sound immense. £200 would get you one in good nick and some change, too. If you had just £50 more there is a bitsa Fender Hot Rod for sale in the classifieds here that is exceptionally nice. Then again, for £220 there is a Yamaha 214.
20. Certainly interesting http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Custom-Headless-Bass-with-DB-Tuner-bridge-/231776837169?hash=item35f6f9de31:g:lwoAAOSwNphWZYrT
21.
Depends on the model and obviously what sound you're after. For an ABM – I always start with the following, and make small adjustments to compensate for the room Disable the “shape” button (button pressed in) and the compressor (if there is one). Bass @ 10oclock Mid: @ 12oclock Treble @ 2 oclock Bump the all the sliders very very slightly A tiny bit of sub octave (just because its there) Healthy amount of gain and drive. Crank it up and rock out.
Ta. I'll give that a go. I'm after the standard pre-shape tone on the TE. Nearest I got so far with the ABM was with the shape button engaged then cut the bass and upper mids but it was still wrong somehow.
22.
Oh, my apologies, I had no idea at all. Mind you, you're describing the Jazz variant aren't you?
Aha! Well spotted. I was indeed talking of the Jazz, this isn't one is it!
23. How do you eq your Ashdown? I bought one here recently but am struggling to set it up to how I like.
24.
It'll be standard 34" scale. These are great basses, very versatile and very light too.
Not necessarily - the non-export models with the scratchplate came in medium scale, too. I have one, which also varies by having J/J pickups. But, yes, they are very nice basses.
25. Just listed on eBay, in that odd mauve colour. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-Shergold-Marathon-4-string-bass-guitar-Big-Plate-Mk1-pre-1980-/221961265292?hash=item33adec208c:g:xc8AAOSwAKxWZE-7
