1.
also avoid check or patterns and go for solid colours.
Aha!
2. I also use repeat listening. Especially after I have learnt how to play it. Most mornings i go for a walk for around 2hrs so I stick earbuds in and just listen - visualising and miming the fingering as it is playing - that really helps to get it stuck into my muscle memory. Luckily the footpaths I walk along aren't that well patronised so I don't get too many curious looks.
3.
Really..? Oh, right. I'd never do that, of course... it would be very wrong. And weird.
I don't know about re-licked but if I were Steve Dawson's bass I would certainly be distressed. Thanks for the link. Dimwit that I am, it had never occurred to me that there might be play-a-long bassless tracks on YouTube
4. Mark - what is the backing track on that rather tasty sound bite, please?
5. I meant when used as a verb, not when it is a noun. So 'reliced' or 'relicing'. Ugly words. Looks like someone took away the lice then put them back again.
6. That is astonishingly good. As a few have said, mostly I don't like reliced basses as they look fake. That is a time machine job, not a relicing. And why does the word relic look so wrong when used as a verb?
7. I know what you mean. I had originally decided not to - even though it was on my watch list, having moved to 32" scale it seemed silly to get another long scale again. But when it didn't sell I lost my self-control. The best bit (apart from the price) is that it only weighs 8lbs. As soon as I get the black plate on I'll do a post on it.
8. I couldn't resist. I got in touch with the guy and we came to an arrangement. I went to collect it this morning and have to say it is an absolute peach. Seller bought it new in 1983 - it is completely original and almost no wear as he is mainkly a drummer. A near perfect 57 re-issue in my favourite colour way - I'll stick a black plate on it, I think. Everything is right - neck stamp, cloth wires, green cap etc. Neck was bowed but straightened immediately with a tweak to the truss rod. Some nice figuring in the maple, too, which itself is a rich warm caramel.
9. Bought a wireless transmitter pouch is the smoothest of transactions. Thanks Jon!
10. A couple of times I have bought basses from Japan that were sent via DHL and it was a DHL van that delivered them. In one case I missed the delivery and the driver rang later in the day to see about re-delivering in the afternoon. Add to that 2 days door to door from Tokyo and I was very impressed.
11. I have recently acquired a Squier Musicmaster Vista Series and it has absolutely no shortage of growl. Aggressive little beast, all things considered, but tamed to something very interesting with the tone rolled off 3/4 or more.. I reckon these Vista models are absolute gems.
12. Always worth repeating, this one about creating your password: http://weknowmemes.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/creating-a-password-cabbage.jpg Decided to link it, rather than post it, as it has rude words...
13. Reminds me of this http://youtu.be/50A9wjJ40Dk
14. I'll have the Levi pouch, please - might work out better than my back pocket. PM incoming.
15. There was a single bid on it for a day or so but that must have been retracted. I can just see that sitting in my bass rack... along with too many others, sadly.
16. Thank you. Too wide, thankfully. Once again, another sleepless night avoided It is a stunningly good looking bass - black, black and maple are my favourite combo and there's something rather nice going on in the neck grain, too. This should go really quickly.
17. Gorgeous. My inevitable question is - how wide is the neck at the nut, please?
18. Boxing day price reduction bump to £450 plus carriage.
19. Hearth Vader? I lost the plot around 2:35.
20. Sonic blue for me. I just acquired a bass in sonic blue and it is cool as anything.
21. Graham and Truckstop - muchas gracias! I see a few hours on headphones coming up over the holidays!
22. Mail order cakes for xmas - Yule log in post. Or has that been done?
23. That neck dive would take more than a wide strap to cure.
24. anyone remember this? http://youtu.be/sBmYkXVteaU
