1. Just been listed. I wonder how heavy these are? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Tokai-Talbo-Bass-free-postage-in-UK-via-Parcelforce-48-/301767085886?hash=item4642b84f3e
2. I do have a spare decal, as it happens. PM me your address and I'll stick it in the post.
3. Drummer in one of my bands is a big fan of Ringo. Reckons a lot of his technique is due to him being left handed but playing a right handed kit - he starts off round his kit leading with his left, rather than his right. Or something.
4. The body is scaled down a bit, yes - pretty much exactly the same dimensions as a Stratocaster body. Possibly not what you wanted to hear!
5. Final drop to £300. The refin and U retro cost me more!
6. Truss rod adjustment working is something that think of as a given when buying a bass. I don't even ask the seller if it works as I assume it does. If it doesn't work then it is a serious issue and the bass goes back. But I can't imagine it is that common, really?
7.
You're only as good as the weakest member of the band really...
I don't know. I have played in bands where there was a weak keyboard player or a weak guitarist but both times the drummer was good. I think if the rhythm platform is solid then it can carry other weaker players - who may or may not bring something else to the party other than virtuosity. But a band with a bad drummer is a sorry thing.
8. Bit of a bargain, I reckon http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Epiphone-Thunderbird-Pro-IV-Bass-Guitar-with-Gig-Bag-and-Strap-/111794645862?hash=item1a077aeb66
9. I heard this for the first time last week and the tone of the bass hit me straight away. Nice, stripped bare kind of toon, if you like that kind of thing, and (IMHO) a refreshing change from the big production numbers you usually hear in modern country music. http://youtu.be/4zAThXFOy2c
10. Wow. Looks like a scaled down body, too. How much does that weigh, please?
11. Sold a bass to Paul in a very straightforward transaction. Wouldn't hesitate to deal with him again! Cheers Paul
12.
Recently and for the foreseeable, I will mostly be taking the lightest.
13.
You see my friends it all depends on the mood I'm in.
This. Any of my basses would sound ok with any band, so I just see which one beckons when it comes to going out of the door.
14. I went to Hammersmith to see them - 4 hour round trip. Mrs S had heard them a lot on the radio and fancied giving them a go live. First band left me puzzled. Evidently a lot of people enjoyed them but I didn't get it. Why the kick drum was so gut-punchingly loud I don't know. I enjoyed the girl with the squeezebox very much, so was looking forward to the main event. I was then puzzled why it took a 20 minute break to move a mike stand and midi keyboard and didn't appreciate the wait. Have to say the first guitar solo was tremendous - what a great tone and great subtlety about it. When he embarked on a second almost identical one not that much further into the gig I am sorry to say we left. We gave it an hour but just not our cup of tea. I don't doubt for a second the quality of the musicianship but I prefer my music to be slightly more cohesive and less complex. Horses for courses.
15. Bear in mind your singer is ill - suffering from LVS - Lead Vocalist Syndrome. Almost a universal constant and inevitable outcome of the ego required in fronting a band. Eventually, the singer believes they are 'his/her' band, not an equal share of the start up band it once was, and thus their opinion as to which songs get played is more important than anyone else's.
16. I like the bit where he starts 'by legend', followed by the fairy story. Maybe it is some form of disclaimer?
17. There's a Trace Elliot 15" combo for sale at the moment for £180. I'd get that, plus a Westone Thunder 1A which I could probably get from somewhere for around £150. That leaves enough change for a lead.
18. Rescued from page 3 type bump. Just to precis - refinished body in superb condition, J East U retro preamp, Hiscox case (albeit a bit scruffy in one place) - these are serious considerations! First offer over £300 will be taken, folks - this needs to go.
19. Nothing at the moment. Feels good. That's not to say that I won't spot something out of the blue that appeals but, just for now, I don't look longingly at anything. I might/might not change my TC Electronic RH 750 back up amp for another Trace Elliot one, but not in any hurry and certainly no compulsion.
20. Bought a 4U rack case from Simon in the simplest of transactions, including a free upgrade Good price, great comms, friendly chap. I wouldn't hesitate to deal with him again.
21. 6 basses. A series MIJ Squier Precision 32" scale (white) B series MIJ Squier Precision 32" scale (black) A series MIJ Squier Katana (32" scale Precision but a mad shape, in black) JV0 series MIJ '57 RI Precision, Fender logo (tobacco burst) Early 90s MIJ Fender Aerodyne non-export Jazz, 32" scale (white) Danelectro Longhorn But the total is down from a dozen or so over the last few months. Not included are a Stagg EUB, ukulele bass and a semi-acoustic. Well, they don't count, do they (Edit - also a Precision Lyte for sale, but that doesn't count either...)
22. This needs to go - make me an offer, I can only say no!
23. It is my pleasure to start a feedback thread for skitzigol. Tom bought a bass from me in the easiest of transactions, picked it up from home. I wouldn't hesitate in dealing with Tom again.
