1. Bump for a great amp (used to be mine before I upped the watts and the ohms) at a ridiculously good price. Dunc is a top bloke to deal with.
2. We do seem to have similar taste in gear, that's for sure
3. Rich just bought my Westone Quantum project - from saying he'd have it to pick up must be one of the quickest deals I have had here. Nice friendly fellow. Pics when it is done, please!
4. Sitting in its case not getting played. Selling my 1978 Shergold Meteor Deluxe. It is black with a gorgeous maple neck. Two humbucker pickups that can be switched for single coil and also out of phase, giving huge tonal range at your fingertips. The signature Shergold lacquer cracks are present but, otherwise, it is in remarkably good condition for a '78. Still has the perspex ashtray bridge cover, in fact. Sounds-wise it is leaning more towards Fender than Gibson but, mainly, it is its own thing. The double cutaway look is pretty cool, I think. Comes with an old - maybe original? - hard case. Plays itself, almost - far too nice for a powerchord disciple like me [s]£350 cash collected from SS7. can deliver within a reasonable distance for fuel or meet half-way. £25 will get it delivered to mainland UK by overnight courier - in which case PayPal no fee or bank transfer [/s] 6th September price drop to £325 including postage or £300 collected. 5. Another one I may regret selling... Shergold Marathon 1976. An almost unbelievable 7.5lbs of vintage bass goodness. I bought it a few years ago from the second owner who, at some point in the dim and distant past, had the original pickup replaced by two hand-wired pickups made by a luthier of some renown, Jim Cairns. Now has vol, tone and two on/off switches for the pups and a fairly scruffy arrangement with the scratchplate to allow for all these changes/routing etc. It is in really scruffy condition. Or it has lots of mojo, depending upon your view. The signature Shergold lacquer cracks are there in abundance and the finish on the back has been a martyr to buckle rash. It has scratches, dings, lumps missing - full of character. It also sounds unique - a bit Jazz bass-y but mainly its own thing. With the stock neck I didn't play it as I found it too wide so I managed to find a NOS neck and, once again, Andyjr1515 came to my rescue. he reshaped the neck to a 38mm at the nut profile and, as usual, make a cracking job of it - customary blog here http://basschat.co.u..._1#entry2784314 Ungrateful fool that I am, I still don't use it, favouring my medium scale basses above all others these days. I bought it cheap and am selling it cheap - £300 including the original neck, all in an equally scruffy hard case that is of similar vintage but works just fine. Cash on collection from SS7, could deliver within a reasonable distance for fuel or meet half-way. Overnight courier to mainland UK would be £25. PayPal no fee or bank transfer also fine.
6. My cull continues. I may regret this as we have been through a lot together but here we go... Fender Precision Lyte, MIJ 1990-91. Glossy piano black body, active P/J pickups, narrow Jazz width (as in really narrow - Geddy Lee type) neck with 22 frets. Weighs 7.5lbs. This has been a bit of a money pit, all things considered. I bought it unseen a few years ago and it was a gaudy bright pinky red. I couldn't live with the colour so I tried to refinish it myself - badly - in black and took the headstock back to wood. Had a replica decal made that has the correct serial no. Also the electrics were knackered so I fitted a J. East U retro preamp. With the original Fender pickups it sounds huge. P pickup sounds a bit, but not exactly, like a Precision. J pup similarly like a Jazz but not exactly. Blended they sound great, quite burpy and probably my favourite setting. I had the bass refinished recently by Andyjr1515 who made this blog of his work http://basschat.co.u..._1#entry2571980 and he made an absolutely fantastic job of it. Bad things - I put a Hipshot detuner on it and in doing so completely scuffed over the thread of one of the screws. Wedged attractively in place with a rubber washer and actually works perfectly unlike most I have fitted. I won't attempt to remove it but include the original tuner. Gold finish is a bit worn in places. I stuck some luminous dots on the fret postion markers and it is a little scruffy. Will come in a heat damaged but perfectly usable Hiscox case. Looking for [s]£350[/s] [s]£325[/s] collected from SS7. Can deliver within a reasonable distance for fuel or meet half-way. Overnight courier to mainland UK would be £25. cash on collection, payPal no fees or bank transfer. U Turn Halloween price drop to £300 posted or £275 collected.
7. My cull continues. I am selling my Westone Thunder 1A fretless. This is a version 3 which has a Magnabass pickup, high mass bridge and lighter weight body - around 8.5lbs. Unlined rosewood neck with side dot fret markers and it is fitted with status black nylon flats. Sounds absolutely great when played either active or passive - tons of mwah. For the price I don't think there is a better fretless bass - for me these are much nicer than the Squier Jazz f/l. There is a Youtube vid of one of these (NOT this one) here: https://www.youtube....h?v=WrzEzczWgCo This is in pretty good nick for an '86 - I guess they don't get a lot o use. This hasn't since I bought it, that's for sure! Will come with a servicable gig bag. £120 collected from SS7, could deliver within a reasonable distance for fuel or meet half-way. Courier would be £18 to mainland UK. payment cash on collection, PayPal no fee or bank transfer.
8. Major cull continues. Selling my Hohner B2ADB - the one with the drop D tuner. Black, good condition, fairly heavy as far as one of these goes at around 8lbs. Tiny nick out of the upper edge of the neck as per pic otherwise in good condition. Neck strap pin moved to upper 'horn', which helps it sit better IMO. Comes with padded Warwick Rock bag and 2 spare sets of Status double ball end (it needs these) flats, one are black nylons that have never been fitted. I have used this as back up bass for most gigs over the past couple of years as it takes up almost no room in the car/on stage. £220 collected from SS7, deliver within reasonable distance for fuel or meet half way. Courier would be £20 to mainland UK. Cash on collection, PayPal no fee or bank transfer.
9. I am having a major cull. Here is a Westone Quantum headless bass. It was black, the person I bought it from was going to refinish it in red, I was going to make it black again. After some recent posts I got excited by the notion of doing a carbon fibre hydro-dip but, when I actually thought about it, decided that realistically it isn't ever going to happen. It needs the prep. to be finished off, primer where needed, then refinished. Neck is ok. All the bits are there, just needs putting back together. Selling for £100. Collect from SS7, could possibly deliver within reasonable distance for fuel or meet half way. Courier would be £15 to mainland UK. Cash on collection, PayPal no fee or bank transfer.
10. A double bump - cracking basses and Benedict is an absolute gent to deal with. Be sure whoever buys this it will come packaged to withstand a nuclear holocaust.
11. My MB Little Mark 800 Tube goes walkabout on my BF Supercompact. I had a rubber placemat knocking about and that has stopped it. Just have to have fewer people round for dinner these days
12. Very interesting. I have a 'project' Washburn Quantum that needs a refin. but all those angles scare me This could be the answer. Do you lacquer it afterwards?
13. I have a 32" scale 80s Squier Precision, which I absolutely love. With flats it is remarkable but, as a few others have said, I need a little more to it. Less clank, more bite. A few months after I bought it I noticed some med. scale strings for sale on here - Dr Low Beams, used, cut for a 4 in line headstock. Got chatting to the seller (Hi Ted... ) and mentioned they were going on a med. scale Precision. It transpired that my bass used to be his a few owners back (he still regrets selling it) and that was the bass the strings had been fitted too. Bass and strings are now re-united and present me with a rich, thuddy-with-a-hint-of-bite creamy goodness sound. Doncha love a happy ending.
14. Cheap Hondo bass - £110 or best offer, with postage at £7.50 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hondo-II-Professional-Vintage-70s-80s-Bass-Guitar-MAKE-US-AN-OFFER-L-K-/262010527723?hash=item3d010b5feb Too heavy for me but probably a good deal
15.
These are the very people who watch 'Hitler's UFO Nazi Mega-Dinosaurs' on cable TV
Series 3 was my favourite...
16. No idea about a low B. Advantages of 32" scale for me (I have 4): Blindingly obvious but they have a more compact fretboard, I find everything easier to access without having to move my hand about a lot. I tend not to anyway so it just makes playing a tad more comfy for me. It isn't a matter of having small hands - I have't - just that I find it very comfortable. Two of the 32" scale basses I have (Precision and Jazz) are also slightly scaled down in body size from their 34" brothers and hence lighter in weight. Again, for me, that makes them more comfortable. Disadvantages: There aren't that many basses to choose from, nor the array of strings -although I have often just 34" scale strings and cut the extra off. Not ideal. Hard cases and gig bags are not easy to come by.
17. Not the best prog album ever but I still enjoy listening to this: 'Remember The Future' by Nektar. There is an absolutely sublime guitar solo in it around 27 or so mins in - that passage is a bit Floyd-ish but that's no bad ting.
