I have been through various stages depending upon how complex the effect blends needed to be. Zoom B2.1u was ok for a pub covers band, then separate pedals for a decent rock band. I'm now using a Zoom MS-60B and find it easier than the B2.1u to use - combining effects seems easier and an awful lot of the effects are pretty good. And it is the same size as the smaller stomp boxes, too.

Gone - Aria Pro II Cardinal Series CSB 450 'Black n Gold'
Paul S replied to Paul S's topic in Basses For Sale
It most certainly is beautiful, Jon, and the condition is almost unbelievable. I think the word 'rare' is over-used and devalued but it actually does apply in this case. I bought this temptress of a bass in May last year and had been on the look out for one for absolutely ages before that and in that time I've not seen another. It has taken me a few months to decide to part with it - kept getting it out of the bag to take pics, only to put it back again. -
I'd like to introduce you to my older fatter uglier brother... but meanwhile this is me:

I'm sure I've read somewhere that these oddities are extremely well put together. Not quite JV0... standard but pretty much as good as other 80s MIJ Squiers were. Anyone know if that is right?

Aria Pro II Cardinal Series CSB 450 'Black n Gold'. This was the top end of the range model in the CSB series - [s]through neck[/s] set neck, carved body, black bridge with bright brass saddles, Gold tuners, truss rod cover and brass nut. Gold knobs - volume and tone. Single pickup. Currently fitted with gold strings! Weighs around 8.5lbs, neck is 40mm wide at the nut. Medium/ 32" scale. , Matsumoku at its best! I bought it from Kukkunyan on here in a very efficient transaction. He sent it over from Tokyo - took just 3 days! I would say condition wise it is a 9/10, maybe 9.5/10 which, as the serial number suggests it is a 1982 model, is totally staggering that a bass can be in such showroom condition. Comes with one of those weird leatherette gig bags they have in Japan. It is utterly gorgeous, a thing of immense beauty. The glossy piano black body and bridge set off the gold hardware perfectly - little details in the bridge, especially, like gold screws and springs, are just a joy. The gold strings maybe a touch ostentatious but what the heck. There was an issue with the tone pot when it arrived, replaced and now sounds exactly as it should. A noisy little chap, loud output for a passive bass and an aggressive, fairly modern tone. And, for me, therein is the problem - I don't like the tone. It is too honky and harsh for my liking, I prefer a Precision type thump. GAS is a cruel; mistress and, having gone to some trouble to obtain one of these beauties I find I can't get on with it. Seems a shame to have it and never use it. I have priced this rare gem to sell at £300 collected from SS7. Postage to mainland UK - fully insured next day - would be in the region of £24. happy to ship outside but would need to quote for that. I could deliver with a reasonable distance for fuel costs or meet half way, again within reason. Bank Transfer or Paypal with adjustment for fees.

Bought a Yamaha BB414 from mark in the easiest of transactions. Good comms, friendly chap. A pleasure doing business.

Now there's an idea. A new way to adjust neck relief, with two little windy handles. Or even curve radius of the fretboard!! I will write to the patent office before anyone else nicks it. Where's my 'Cleartone Guitars' headed notepaper?
WHAT?? No, no... don't argue with people on teh internetz, it's not worth it!
yes it is
I'd argue that Glover and Paice were a massively underrated rhythm section. I may have to run and hide after saying this, but I think as a unit they had a far superior groove to Jones and Bonham - but then I've always thought Paice was a far more imaginative drummer!
You wouldn't have to argue that with me - an opinion I've held for over 40 years. I found the Bonham/JPJ combo rather too 'messy'. I prefer Gillan over Plant as a singer, too.... well, back then, anyway, when they both could still sing. Not sure I'd classify 'Made In Japan' as 'prog' mind you...

Must be worth a bit as parts - all those strings, tuners, bridge saddles. Put legs on the neck and you have a nice work bench for your shed. £50 is a bit rich for me, though.
Haha I play a lot with my winky, especially with big hands using it makes playing a breeze.
That predictive text is such a nuisance. I hope. -
He's also selling a ghost in a bottle. Just £430 to you. Imagine what a full-size ghost must cost. J.
I prefer my spirits draught.

Indeed. I can nearly touch my toes now. Can't see them, mind, but I remember where they are.

I started to play guitar when I became properly interested in music - I guess I was around 14, so maybe 1970/71. Stuck with guitar until I was about 21 but then gave it all up as wife #1 (I was a child bridegroom) was a controlling witch and I wasn't allowed hobbies. Didn't ever make it as far as performing, but used to jam along with mates a lot of the time. Fast forward 25 years, I decided to take up a musical instrument again but in the interim had begun to appreciate and listen to music in a whole different way so decided to get a bass. With Wife #2's blessing (she is a saint). Had my first gig at 50 and it felt that the little piece of me that had been missing all those years had finally fallen back into place. Seven years on I am still on the steep learning curve: last year I joined a band that stretched me, this year another that will stretch me more. I couldn't be happier.

Early fumblings were invariably to an Isley Brothers backing track. Slightly later in life, more seriously second time around was to Heat of Night, Imagination. Who should have perhaps been called, more appropriately, Lack Of Imagination as you could probably segue most of the stuff they ever released seamlessly. So, maybe, 'Shag-bunny'.

a mantra that was posted on here at some point by someone, quoting someone else... 'Don't practice until you get it right, practice until you can't get it wrong.' as a blagging bodger of a copy and paste merchant, it is the only way I can get by. -

Amsterdam - best place to get a bass out there
Paul S replied to silky13's topic in General Discussion
What a generous offer. Totally what I would expect - great country, great people. I go every year - have done for the past few years - not so much the 'fleshpots' of Amsterdam but more the 'plant pots' of Amsterdam. I've found the Dutch to be the friendliest and nicest people. -

Early 1970s MIJ Ibanez 2030 Jazz style bass just listed. From the description it seems to be medium scale and lightweigh - always a good combination for me! Any good? IndigO2 is not bad. I saw Shalamar there a few weeks back, front row of the balcony (Jeffrey Daniel has still got it - never seen a human being move so effortlessly). Sound was pretty good. For that gig at least downstairs was standing and a free-for-all after queueing to get in. Seated ticket holders go in through a different door, up a lift, have a VIP lounge with bar etc. All very posh. Although it was possible to do a hand puppet show when the spotlight moved across where we were sitting (Mrs S put me in a handlock to prevent it after the first time) (What a rebel, eh?) Surprisingly intimate, maybe. Having said that I prefer the main O2 Arena and Brooklyn Bowl, though. I wonder how the Bluesfest thing will move to the O2, though? I had a stroller ticket for last year at RAH and wandered about ad lib to see smaller bands (I say smaller - Matt Schofield was one). Not sure if this is going to happen or if it is just a few bands on the main stages?
There are also some great museums and art galleries, apparently.
-
The SR series have the nicest necks of ANY bass IMO - beautifully slim and contoured. However, the sound is not to my taste whatever pickup is installed and whatever wood is used. I don't understand why that is.
My to my annoyance I found exactly this, too. I had a 90s MIJ SR800 which was absolutely superlative in every respect with a vast range of tones - none of which I found myself liking.
