1. I was in a very short-lived 80s band and found myself having to play 'Sit Down' by James and 'Walking on Sunshine' by whoever the hell it was sang it. Both are 'switch off or change channels' tracks for me if they came on the radio, ordinarily. Luckily we only lasted 2 gigs.
2. My choice would be 'Made in Japan' by Deep Purple. As good as a live album can be.
3.
I used just a Compact for a while, and it was great, but adding a Midget to the setup was eye (ear?) opening. My Midget doesn't have a tweeter (eugh) and has allll the highs I could ever want Si
This, for me. Can't speak of the new stuff but I have G1 Compact and Midget. I use either for routine rehearsals on its own according to whim/ state of my back/space I need in the boot. But always the two together for gigs. They were designed to go together and go together they do.
4. Jamie bought my Overwater bass in the simplest of transaction. Top fella to deal with, great coms. Enjoy the bass!
5. Stop it! And it is above the free delivery threshold... No. I have a black Precision Lyte and a black Jazz Bass Special. There is absolutely no reason or justification to get one of these. Is there?
6.
Pretend you want the black one instead, they'e £245 for some bizarre reason!
... and worth the extra. Looks the mutts in black, with the ebanol board n' all. Actually I am struggling to recall why I got rid of it. Hell and damnation.
7. Here's a novel idea - don't go! I've not seen him before and am looking forward to it. Of course I may walk out half way through...
8. Mine was well under 9lbs - a bonus, perhaps. Only £210 new! I wish you hadn't said that....
9. Nice one! Be interested to hear how heavy it is and also the nut width, when it arrives.
10. You didn't mention they are also, by Jazz bass standards, very lightweight! I had one (in black) for a while and was utterly amazed at how good it was at the price point. When I picked it up the neck was so straight and the action so low that I had to actually alter it to fit in with my heavy-handed thumpings. They don't get a mention as much as the VM or CV but I think for the money these are amazing. Plays like a Jazz, sounds like a Jazz, feels like a Jazz but lighter.
11. Andytoad - tone is such an illusive quality that if you think you have found it with an SG type bass then nab it! Size of bass - who cares? I posted this before but check out Hamish Stuart, not a small man and a bit of a geezer by all accounts, playing a Mustang. No-one appears to pointing and laughing. http://youtu.be/qSP5yiUbDLQ I am not small - 5'10" and 100 kgs - I regularly play a Musicmaster and have just recently acquired a Danelectro Longhorn, both shortscale. The Dano is ridiculously camp, frankly, but I am not remotely bothered.
12. Satch is on tour here through November - the *huge* surprise for me is he is playing the Cliff's Pavilion in Southend, which is just a 4000 seater venue. I wouldn't say I was a 'fan' but it would be rude not see such an influential player locally for not a lot of dosh - got my ticket already!
13. I usually only change strings if I want to try different ones, rather than because the ones fitted have aged. I've been wavering between flats and rounds for years - I hear and feel the advantages of both so it has largely depended upon what type of band I am in which I have used. Currently I've decided that I want the sound of old rounds that have lost their zing but still more attack than flats, so I'm not changing any of my strings any time soon. Well, not until the band situation changes again, anyway.
14. Ah, I missed it first time around. Hopefully I'll miss it next time it is re-listed, too.
15. But then again your avatar is the ugliest dog in the world...
16. Bargain for anyone near Northampton who can collect - act out your Duff Mckagan fantasies! 17. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/fender-bass-guitar-/161585581490?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item259f404db2 If this doesn't take the gold medal for 'ugliest Frankenstein monster' of a 'bass' then it surely deserves a place on the rostrum
18.
It was clearly designed to be a very unique bass.
Nice If it were one decimal place cheaper and local I'd buy it.
19. Thanks for that. The spring flying off was a concern, actually, so I am glad it will stay put. So - out it comes! Ta
20. So just for the sake of discussion, you understand... , do you know how much one of these is likely to weigh? Neck width? Looks active - yah?
21.
That really is a recurrent thread around here, isn't it? Include me in ...
... and me. Late starter's club. Pervey Millstone III bought as a package in PMT Southend around 12 years ago. Followed by this old fella and then, since joining here, about a million others.
22. Nor me - I have way too many basses as it is plus I have just started an illicit love affair with a couple of recently pulled Danelectros. But it is nice... But while I am here - what is poxy about a Westone Thunder?
