  1. To be fair, with a full size acoustic and other, er, obstructions she wouldn't be able to see what she was doing she anything to keep it simple.
  2. Possibly the MIJ non-export model Aerodyne?
  3. My blues rock trio Toredown played at a new pub last night. Well, new to us, its the oldest pub in Ipswich built in 16th century - the Black Horse. Plusses and a minus. The minus - hardly anyone there! Lots of our regular crowd said they would come but only 2 did and there were at most around 15 people from the pub's regular punters. Nevertheless they got into it, as did we. Plusses - it is easier for me to get to than our regular place being just outside of the confusing one-way system. Guitarist and I got there for 7:30 but drummer (who has the pa) was held up and arrived at 8:15 - for a 9pm start. But the pa is such a quick assemble that we sound-checked and started bang on time. The owners couldn't do enough for us, room was already cleared (big space, too), free drinks, opened up the beer garden gate so we could park off-road, easy load in/out. No hold-ups or diversions on the A12, home by 1am. We have another one there next month and, I hope, more in future.
  4. My band's set up probably wouldn't work for everyone but it works for us. We have a pair of RCF EVOX 8 pa units that, due to some strong juju, can be placed behind mics but don't (generally) feedback. For the small pubs we usually play we put vocals, kick drum and bass through the desk, I go straight from an EQ/DI pedal - guitarist prefers to keep his Fender Twin combo out of the pa. If we are feeling expansive at a bigger venue and/or can be bothered we sometimes mic up all the drums, stick an overhead for the cymbals and mic up guitarists combo. Withe the pa behind us we can hear ourselves quite adequately, if loudly, so there is no need for extra monitoring. Volume 'on stage' is attentuated by ear plugs or, in my case, my hearing aids - the volume of which I can control via an app and/or a bluetooth gizmo that hangs round my neck That way I still get a rounded and full sound but at comfortable level in my ears. There are not many plusses for wearing hearing aids but this is one of them And no backline for me! So simple - set up and breakdown is pretty quick.
  5. I had one of those exact basses, a Club Ignition. At the same time I had a Danelectro 56 single cut short scale and the Dano kicked it out of the park - way, way better in every respect. An unfair comparison because the Dano is a more expensive instrument but, in and A/B comparison, for me there was no comparison. So if there was room in my life for a short scale single cut hollow body bass it would be a Dano all the way. Or maybe I'd try the Epiphone Rumblecat, purely because I haven't yet.
  6. New venue for my band Toredown this Friday 19th, playing at the Black Horse, Black Horse Lane, Ipswich - oldest pub in Ipswich apparently. If you like your blues on the rocky side you'll like us, come and heckle.
  7. Could be he was just cr@p, of course.
  8. Rickmansworth is also a noted frost hollow, with winter low temperatures significantly lower than the higher surrounding areas.
  9. Something to do with him drowing his, then, wife Natalie Wood, in a boating 'accident'? Allegedly.
  10. T'other way around as far as I cam concerned. I lock in with the drums and let the other instruments do what they want around that foundation. I thought that what meant by 'rhythm section'.
  11. Deviating from the original is one thing. Overplaying is another. For me there is nothing worse than a nice flowing bassline with lots of space being noodled over - I saw a soul/funk band locally and the guy did that exact thing. Great player, loads of chops but ruined the songs by playing them all every time.
  12. Brief update. I ended up going with this lot: https://www.promodiscs.co.uk/?gclid=CjwKCAjwge2iBhBBEiwAfXDBR0f3Lq4O_DBLcEUHktpFUiUZSpoAcahW3XgG4O9t1uQYkmVTd1knqxoCfaEQAvD_BwE Cost was £146 for 100x CDs packaged in slimline jewel case, 2 page colour insert plus CD printed, posted. Guy was really helpful ironing out a few wrinkles with the artwork to make it more print ready. Very happy with that. I'll report back once they've arrived.
  13. He is very good and would be my first call. A different way to achieve the ame thing would be Tim and Gig Ink. He uses a clear pickguard material with whatever you want printed to the underneath. I believe he does tort, if you must
  14. I've had both Luminlay inserts and cheap glow in the dark dots in the past and find them pretty much unusable because of the need to keep charging it up with light. Don't want to spend my entire mid-set break shining a UV torch at my basses. My latest attempt at visible side dots was handing the bass over to the guy that does my bits and bobs who has lots of equipment and steady hands at his disposal. He made a template to stick along the side with 3mm holes punched out in the required positions. Next time he was using white nitro he flashed it along the side of the neck, leaving me with bright white 3mm dots. So far, so good. They'll wear off in time, I am sure, but have cured the problem for now.
  15. Live recording of Hideaway from our last gig 28th April. I think it works! Hideaway - Mastered.wav
  16. License cost £77 and a bit. Not too bad but it all adds up!
  17. I wasn't aware of this, thank you. I'll investigate.
  18. I think this is going to be the way forward - get the better quality jewel case, which costs an extra 55p a pop, then charge a tenner so we don't have to bother with change. Cram duplication seemed a popular choice when someone previously asked about CD printing and they charge £2.20 plus VAT a unit for 100 printed CDs in jewelcase plus 2 page insert https://www.cramduplication.co.uk/cddvd/ Ta!
  19. Paul Rodgers. Not that many years ago I saw him at a relatively small theatre (Palace Theatre in Westcliff, for those that know it) and he stood at the back of the stage away from any mics and could still be heard quite plainly. Chaka Khan (Chaka Khan) also - really powerful voice.
  20. I suppose I have two questions, really, but it is mainly about how much to charge. My lot had our last gig recorded off the desk and we are going to put the best 14 tracks onto a CD to sell at our gigs. This would end up being around 65 mins, maybe a touch more. Who has done it and how much do you charge? Not necessarily a live one but a CD of your band's music to sell at gigs. Not interested in online sales/downloading at the moment. The other thing is related to this - would you charge more for a jewel case CD than a card sleeve CD and is it worth the extra expense of having done? Muchas gracias
  21. TI Flats on mine. No mud.
  22. I had a Hondo Alien for a while - rosewood board over an aluminium neck. That didn't sound like anything else I had ever played, quite a brittle tone.
  23. Yes, that's exactly what I did. I struggle(d) to express myself about what key something is in when playing it detuned for JJ. The fingering positions on the fretboard are the same as playing the studio versions at concert pitch but actual note is half a tone down. So does it start on the G or an F#? 🥴 3rd fret of the second fattest string, anyway. I always played the the little triplet thing at the end of each phrase on the open D string with pull offs and hammer ons. I assumed fingerstyle it would be played more elegantly by raking down the strings but maybe not.
  24. I didn't name him, it was just a throw away humorous remark about making a song I was already struggling with even more difficult. I'm sure you have more important things to concern yourself with than making an issue out of nothing. It ended up as F# - as I recall it started off life in G: as per studio recording but then as you know everything we played was tuned down half a tone. And, yes, I used a 5er but that didn't impact on how I played it.
  25. Well, that was my experience, Warren, and it is nothing different to anything I said at the time to his face. Just because you and he are buddies doesn't make it bad form. If your experience is different then good for you but that is what I found. But thank you for once again criticising me on a public forum.
