1. Recent one of my band 'Illegal Tender' when we had some piccies done for the website. Me far left.
2. Just that really. if you bought a load of strings and kept them in a drawer for 10 years, unplayed, would they sound as dull as 10 year old strings that had been played? Or would they be as bright as the day they were made? Or somewhere between? Thanks!
3. For me it makes no difference what is on the headstock. As someone said a while back, 99.99% of punters won't notice or, even if they do, care. And if anyone does actually judge you with their eyes - what is written on the headstock - as opposed to their ears - what is coming out of the speakers - then that is their problem. I put a Fender decal on a Mighty Mite neck on my bitsa Precision (now moved to a better home) mainly because it looked rather desolate with nothing up there (and the rest of the bass was a Fender, anyway). But I have gigged and will continue to gig with Squiers, Westones, Washburns, all proudly displaying their logos. As long as they are physically up to the task, sound good and not likely to fail mechanically mid-gig then if I like playing them they get gigged.
4. Is there a bass you haven't owned, FE?
5. I was going to get one of the Hercules stands that has the quick lock thing on the height adjustment until I saw one in bits in a corner of a rehearsal studio. I think the gear they have there probably gives an indication of robustness.
6. I quite like it
7.
The look would be pretty good for anyone in a glam band.
That's what I was thinking. Although not me. Unless I was forced to choose at gun point between one of those and one of those pointy black Gothy things, in which case I'd be wearing the Daisy Rock.
In fact I think it would go quite well with my new blonde wig and pink tutu.... er no, wait...
I don't know why, Mark, but I suddenly had an image from the Disney film Fantasia pop into my head...
8. P Retro. They are brilliant. Some might argue that installing a pre-amp worth more than the bass is a bit daft, but it didn't ever stop me. Plus you can take it out and resell it when you are finished fiddling.
9. Brighteyes?
10. 'A01xxxx' serial number but looks like the one in your avatar, it's an '85/6. Lovely.
11. It certainly works for me as a seller. As a buyer I am a bit more circumspect but, well, that's just Life isn't it.
12.
Thinking about names for the new band I'm in.....we play mostly middle of the road stuff.
Coldplay?

14. Worth every penny of the asking price, I reckon. I love these!
15.
Remember - a Hohner 'B' bass is a Jack with a head - otherwise the same. G.
.... and a B2A is a Jack but minus most of the body. They all share the same core, I think.
16. If you fancied black nylon flats but not fiddling with your nut (ooh err etc) to fit the Trubass strings, Status do good black nylon flats that have the same woody tone but in reasonable gauges - I think the heavy gauge Es are still only 105s. £16.99 a set. I have my fretless Thunder 1A fitted with them and they sound fantastic. I'm sure you could move on the Trubass on here easily enough.
17. I'm using a Fender Jazz bass Special that someone converted to active with Bartolini pups and electrics. So, yes, P/J pups, middle position, light on the treble, but actually played up close to the neck, gets me as close as I need to I think. Doesn't help me that I play with a pick, mind you.
18. Too big to fit on my scanner so I'll leave it. In which case BUMP!!
19. Screw holes don't align with mine, so Andy can you PM your address and I'll stick the tracing in the post to you, save Russ doing another.
20. can I chuck a little acid jazz in the mix? Corduroy - I saw this lot recently and they blew me away http://youtu.be/3XZlgvYdUWY
21. Well, there you go. Thanks for that. Still, he wouldn't be the first player to change how he plays. I saw Argent last year and the original bassist (who looks like an extra from a Hobbit film these days) played the iconic 'Hold Your Head Up' bassline with a completely different feel to it. Held the first notes instead of cutting them off. Spoilt it, for me.
22. For me the studio version kind of bounces along, really rhythmic. On the face of it it seems a straightforward line but I am struggling to make it flow in the same way. But it would appear that Hugh Macdonald has the same problem live, which makes me wonder if it actually was him in the record as the feel is so different.
23. Thank you for that. Interesting that the tone he has live is absolutely nothing like the tone on the recording, so I am obviously being too anal about it. Or, for that matter, the feel of how he plays it. I'll have a bit of a listen to live version later today, i think. Thanks again.
