1.
We tend to like the music that was playing when we were most impressionable and new experiences were a regular occurrence... who can forget that song that was playing when you met your first love, had your first drink, drove your first car, smoked your first joint, went to your first gig..? Important events indeed and the soundtrack to them is burnt into our minds and have special significance. I'm sure it is no different for today's teenagers.
^^This^^ I think. Hobbies change with each generation as technology evolves. I used to play a lot of sport and did a lot of the scout things, but music always was and still is one of the most important things for me. I think if you are into music that will be a constant. I find I am also trapped in a musical timewarp. Most of the new stuff I like sounds like 'old school' rock. The only difference between now and back then is I appreciate all types of music these days and am not so militant about 'heavy rock only' - for me now there are only two types of music; good and bad. But, when all said and done, the bands I loved in my teens like Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and Thin Lizzy still strike the deepest resonance.
2. That could be interesting. Certainly cheap.
3. Like you, FF, I don't even know how to spell DMX, let along set it up. Yes, I agree - one colour then another is certainly less frantic and easier on the eye. But, sad to say, however unsubtle it is I do find 'School Disco' look quite appealing, plus it doesn't require any kind of understanding on my part. But I think the main aim would be getting all of them to be the same colour whatever the settings of the controller.
4.
In theory, any DMX lights should be able to be controlled together, regardless of manufacturer.
Ta. Be nice to think it would be easy to set up, too - and have the sequences all the same. One way to find out, I guess.
5. Pair of Vintage style stacked chrome knobs. I was fairly sure they were from a J East P Retro but the appearance and outside diameter sizes don't match those on the website - possibly an older style? Shaft sizes are the same, so they would fit onto a P Retro anyway. Whatever they are, they are good quality - chrome plated brass. Top knob is dome-topped, 19mm diameter to fit 6mm shaft. Lower knob 24mm diameter to fit 8mm shaft, both fixed via grub screw. £10 posted, £8 collected from SS7, paid by PayPal gift please.
6. HJ those are very good, thanks for the link. I have a single bar set which I would like to augment but hesitated because of the extra tripod - your very workable idea has solved that! I wonder if the lights can all be connected to work in unison, even though different manufacturers?
7. I saw them at Wembley June '78 during what turned out to be the 'Live and Dangerous' tour. Pretty much set the bar as far as me and live music are concerned - I've enjoyed some gigs nearly as much since then (a couple this last year, as it happens) but nothing has bettered that night. Slightly as an aside, I saw a Lizzy tribute band a few days ago - Limehouse Lizzy. It actually brought back a lot of memories. The band were very good but the front guy was absolutely amazing. He didn't try to mimic Lynott or dress like him (black stingray with mirror plate) but he had great stage presence and very reminiscent of Lynott. Well worth seeing if you haven't before.
8.
From my research I got the impression they used the same neck profile on both the J and P's.
Yes - I had a Silver Series Precision as well and the neck was identical to the Silver Series Jazz apart from the logo! That P was also lightweight - a really fantastic bass.
9. At 3.7kg this is going to be basswood, not fibre. I had a fibre E series Squier Jazz and it weighed around 4.5kg. Also had a basswood Silver Series Jazz and, yes, both sounded equally good and exactly like Jazz basses. I can't speak for this one but my Silver Series Jazz had a 40mm wide neck at the nut, so slightly wider than the usual Jazz bass. A very good size, I think.

OK, thanks. Not so light, then
11. Artec SE-2 onboard preamp. 4 controls - vol, pickup balance, treble boost/cut, bass boost/cut. Good bit of kit for the price point. 12. From a 90s MIJ Fender Precision. Nice old school thump, bit scruffy, wires not that long. Covers are not removable. £20 posted, £17 collected from SS7, PayPal gift.
13.
Maybe you need to change your strings.
A set of something like DR High beams will certainly make it ring. This guy manages to get a nice slap tone from a Precision http://youtu.be/C5QYSu9xaTE

15. Pete bought a set of Wilkinson tuners from me in a speed of light, smooth as silk transaction. Been an absolute pleasure!
16. On eBay, a Tokai BPW 55 bass. Not seen one before. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/JAPAN-VINTAGE-TOKAI-BASS-REVOLOUTION-WORKS-55-VERY-GOOD-CONDITION-/251597472273?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item3a9460c211 Anyone any idea? Not that I am interested in bidding, just curious.
17. Used it again, still has to go, really. So bump for a 'get yourself a great bass for little money'
