1. Musky - the E series Squier Jazz was actually very nice, well built, absolutely rang unplugged and plugged sounded exactly like a Jazz bass should. I didn't particularly care about it being MDF. Tone is very subjective but, to my ears, it sounded better than a basswood Silver Series Jazz I had but, at around 2lbs heavier, it was sadly a non-starter for me. This all shows how difficult it is to generalise about particular models doesn't it! I would have said, across the board Silver Series are great basses for the money. It now seems that would have to be qualified - Silver Series *can* be great basses for the money. The Silver Series Precision I had certainly was and I'd buy it back in an instant (you reading this Tom? ).
2. That second Peavey combo is pretty damned good for the cash! And only 22kg?! I didn't know these existed. I wonder if you could plumb in a second ext. cab?
3.
Paul S @: 4,5 kg.
Thank you. This weight seems pretty consistent with Geddy Lee basses, which is a shame as it is too heavy for me.
4. Are you able to weight this accurately, please?

Adee's feedback

Bought a bass pod from Ade. Totally smooth transaction, arrived packed to withstand a nuclear attack. I had mis-spelt his Paypal account no when transferring the dosh and he hadn't received it but he had already posted it off before checking! Easy guy to deal with, wouldn't hesitate in dealing with him again.
6. It it were mdf it would weigh around 10.5-11lbs, whereas I think the wood used for Silver Series was Basswood, which would be around 8.5lbs. I had an E Series MIJ Squier Jazz and it was mdf - weighed a ton. Nice bass, though - sounded superb. The Silver Series might have been cheap but they were good. I had a Silver Series Precision that I sold on and regret selling. Straight out of the box it was one of the best Precisions I have played. Tone was fantastic from the stock pickups, lightweight, slim comfy neck.
7. I'll give you £100 for it - and you double your money!
8. I'd like to have a Barefaced cabs rant. I bought a Compact 3 1/2 years ago, followed by a Midget a year later. Neither have ever gone wrong. Not once. Handles are fine, feet firmly attached. They sounded brilliant on day one and sound brilliant today. Moreover I haven't injured my lower back when carrying these to the car/rehearsal space/gigs and back to the house again. Ever. Nor have either ever hit me in the shins, My problem is - how can a man indulge his GAS when there are cabs like this out there that do the job so well? I read posts about other cabs and often fancy trying them but then, next time I use the Barefaced gear, the GAS goes. Bloody useless.
9. I have a definite policy. 3 in, one out. No exceptions. With the caveat that if I cashed the lot in, their total value couldn't afford me a single boutique or custom shop bass.
10. I would love to do UFO's 'Pushed To The Limit'. I think it is one of their very best tracks although, being a bit later than most of their big numbers, it went under a lot of folks' radar and isn't well know. Which is why it has always been vetoed when I have suggested it. Might possibly have another heavy rock covers band in the breach so I'll flag it up again . http://youtu.be/WN_OFCkzBpY
11. Slightly o/t but does anyone know what these Peavey Jazz basses are like? I guess lightweight with skinny necks, but it would be interesting to know for sure. 13. With a new veneer it would end up along the lines of the Westone Paduak, a 6 string high end guitar they made. Pic nicked off t'net.
14. Westone Thunder 1A just popped up, starting bid £75 and £4.99 postage - listed under 'vintage electric guitars' rather than basses so it may miss a lot of searches and end up a massive bargain. 15. Yes, he was a good front man - really good at connecting with the crowd and, although not a great singer, had extreme self-confidence that shone through. If there were raffles or announcements he would always step up and take over. [boring band story]Unfortunately a lot of the qualities that made him such a good front man I found difficult to live with on a personal level and I ended up having a finger pointing row with him just before a gig - my last one with them about 18 months ago. The most surprising thing with the whole situation was that it took 4 years with the band to reach that point. That's rock n roll, I suppose. Final part of this story was that after a year the band hadn't found a steady replacement bassist and, with the arrival of his first baby, the singer decided to pack it in. The others got in touch with me and we are now starting over again with a new singer.[/boring band story]
16. The original finish would have been satin/matt black so maybe someone wanted it to be gloss and varnished it? In which case it would have been a better job just to polish it.
17. Thunder Jets! I've had 2 - nice basses - lightweight, superb necks, 22frets... look forward to see how this develops!
18. That should have gone for £200 more! Great buy. The better Westones seem to be going for peanuts just lately - a Pantera X790 went for £255 a couple of weeks back and they were the absolute top of the range.
19. Re Legacy = Rotosound thing, I ordered a couple of sets and there was a dead string in one. Contacted Strings Direct who are going to send a replacement, of course. But I also asked if they were re-badged Rotosounds and he said 'yes they are' - so not just a rumour!
20. Interested - but what gauge are these, please?
21.
SPB-2 is a bit 'middly' and slightly hot... you may have more luck with the SPB-1. Are you using rounds or flats? The neck per se won't have a huge influence on tone - in this case. (Stands by for backlash).
^This^ I'd say. I experimented with lots of pickups and strings to get the old school thump sound I have in my head. Fender '62 re-issue originals do it for me, with either flats to get a real thump or rounds for a slightly rockier edge (or perhaps the Forget me Nots punch).
22. I don't know why the venue gets bad reviews. I've been to a couple of gigs there and the sound is good. A decent sized, raised stage means you can see just fine wherever you are. Very limited seating, mind you. Good food available either in the in house restaurant (you can actually book a table and beat the queues on busy O2 nights) or from the bar. What's not to like, really.
23. A couple of our usuals - one of our guitarists is 5'4" tall and weighs approx. 17 stone. He always walks up to his mike and says 'can you see me behind here?' usually gets a laugh. Near the start of a gig, usually when one guitarist is tuning up, as he often does, singer will say something like 'we'll be playing great tunes from the 60s right through to this year. Hopefully you will know some of them. Hopefully we will too' I think the best one he ever came out with was at the start of a gig - we had rehearsed with a keyboard player who then left leaving us to default to our usual format of 2 x guitars and dust off some old tunes at short notice. Singer said 'We've had to change our set at the last minute as our keyboard player has hurt his fingers. Oh, hang on, its next week he gets his fingers hurt, isn't it...'
24. Very interesting. Thanks.
