1. Kev bought a preamp from me in a quick and easy transaction. Good comms, nice friendly chap. A pleasure doing business.
2. Yes, definitely scruffier than this one. If ever you want to sell that back to me, Bryan, I wouldn't take much persuading... And a bump for this one...
3. I think the only BCers band I have seen is hiram.k.hackenbacker's (aka Warren) ex band Elco Jones. Saw them twice - a bloody good night of Soul and Disco, now sadly split up.
4. Someone on here said 'if it passes the Stevie Wonder Test' then it doesn't matter. If it feels right and sounds right then the label doesn't matter. In a way you are lucky to have stumbled on 'the one' early on. I have spent a small fortune trying all different basses but have finally found 'it' - an '84 MIJ Squier medium scale Precision. It says Squier on the headstock, I don't care. If you find the label does matter, stick a Fender one on it for your own benefit (but don't forget to mention it when it is time to move it on) but if it has the tone you are looking for then stay with it.
5. Crikey - there's a bump and a half! And from such a connoisseur, too! Thank you FE! Edit - away from my pc over the weekend. You know, just in case.
6. I am headed down to Cornwall in a month's time, so could pop it down for you on the way.....

Sold Fatos a Hipshot BT2 detuner in the easiest of transactions. Immediate payment, great comms, top guy to deal with!
9. Just listed. Collection only from Newport but seems very cheap. Serial number actually checks out as mid 80s, rather than 90s. 10. I wonder if a light or buzzer is engaged if you touch the sides with your plectrum?
11. I can be of no help but that is a lovely shape. I really like the symmetry of most double cutaway basses and those curves are sexy!
12. Thanks tobiewharton. I feel a mixture of relief and sadness - it is a little too heavy and a little too wide on the neck for me to find comfortable. But what a great bass - someone will enjoy this!
13. If you fancied an hour's drive east you would be welcome to try it out with my BF Midget to see how that sounds. One thing I do know is that (to my ears etc) BF Compact = BF Midget = but BF Compact + Midget = - so that particular 12" and 15" match is very good indeed.
14. Gosh. 2 questions - what is the weight, please, and width of neck at the nut?
15. To the top for a bargain bass!
16.
We tend to like the music that was playing when we were most impressionable and new experiences were a regular occurrence... who can forget that song that was playing when you met your first love, had your first drink, drove your first car, smoked your first joint, went to your first gig..? Important events indeed and the soundtrack to them is burnt into our minds and have special significance. I'm sure it is no different for today's teenagers.
^^This^^ I think. Hobbies change with each generation as technology evolves. I used to play a lot of sport and did a lot of the scout things, but music always was and still is one of the most important things for me. I think if you are into music that will be a constant. I find I am also trapped in a musical timewarp. Most of the new stuff I like sounds like 'old school' rock. The only difference between now and back then is I appreciate all types of music these days and am not so militant about 'heavy rock only' - for me now there are only two types of music; good and bad. But, when all said and done, the bands I loved in my teens like Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and Thin Lizzy still strike the deepest resonance.
17. That could be interesting. Certainly cheap.
18. Like you, FF, I don't even know how to spell DMX, let along set it up. Yes, I agree - one colour then another is certainly less frantic and easier on the eye. But, sad to say, however unsubtle it is I do find 'School Disco' look quite appealing, plus it doesn't require any kind of understanding on my part. But I think the main aim would be getting all of them to be the same colour whatever the settings of the controller.
19.
In theory, any DMX lights should be able to be controlled together, regardless of manufacturer.
Ta. Be nice to think it would be easy to set up, too - and have the sequences all the same. One way to find out, I guess.
20. Pair of Vintage style stacked chrome knobs. I was fairly sure they were from a J East P Retro but the appearance and outside diameter sizes don't match those on the website - possibly an older style? Shaft sizes are the same, so they would fit onto a P Retro anyway. Whatever they are, they are good quality - chrome plated brass. Top knob is dome-topped, 19mm diameter to fit 6mm shaft. Lower knob 24mm diameter to fit 8mm shaft, both fixed via grub screw. £10 posted, £8 collected from SS7, paid by PayPal gift please.
21. HJ those are very good, thanks for the link. I have a single bar set which I would like to augment but hesitated because of the extra tripod - your very workable idea has solved that! I wonder if the lights can all be connected to work in unison, even though different manufacturers?
22. I saw them at Wembley June '78 during what turned out to be the 'Live and Dangerous' tour. Pretty much set the bar as far as me and live music are concerned - I've enjoyed some gigs nearly as much since then (a couple this last year, as it happens) but nothing has bettered that night. Slightly as an aside, I saw a Lizzy tribute band a few days ago - Limehouse Lizzy. It actually brought back a lot of memories. The band were very good but the front guy was absolutely amazing. He didn't try to mimic Lynott or dress like him (black stingray with mirror plate) but he had great stage presence and very reminiscent of Lynott. Well worth seeing if you haven't before.
